How long after unemployment approval do you get paid in Washington ESD?
My unemployment claim was finally approved yesterday after being in adjudication for almost 6 weeks. I'm so relieved but now I'm wondering how long it takes to actually get the money? Does Washington ESD send payments right away or is there another waiting period? I've been scraping by on credit cards and really need to know when I can expect the funds to hit my account.

Congratulations on getting approved! From my experience, Washington ESD typically processes payments within 2-3 business days after approval. If you set up direct deposit, you should see the money faster than if you're waiting for a debit card or check.

•I did set up direct deposit when I first applied. Does that mean I'll get all the back pay at once for the weeks I was waiting?

•Yes, you should get all the retroactive payments for the weeks you were approved for, assuming you filed your weekly claims during the adjudication period.

mine took 4 days to show up in my bank account after approval, but i got everything including the back weeks i was waiting for during adjudication

•That's encouraging! I was worried I'd have to wait longer since it took so long to get approved in the first place.

The payment timing can vary, but Washington ESD usually processes approved claims fairly quickly. Make sure you've continued filing your weekly claims even during adjudication - that's crucial for getting your back pay. If you missed any weekly claims, you'll need to request those separately.

•I kept filing every week like they told me to, even though my claim was pending. Hopefully that means I'll get everything I'm owed.

•Good job staying on top of the weekly claims! That's exactly what you're supposed to do and it'll save you a lot of headaches now.

I went through something similar last year and was getting so frustrated trying to get updates from Washington ESD about my payment timeline. I ended up using this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helps you actually get through to a live agent. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. The agent was able to confirm exactly when my payment would process and what to expect.

•Never heard of that service before. Did it actually help you get through to someone at Washington ESD? I can never get past the busy signal.

•Yeah, it worked for me. I was spending hours trying to call and getting nowhere. This got me connected to an actual person who could look at my account and give me real answers.

THE SYSTEM IS SO BROKEN!!! 6 weeks for adjudication is ridiculous and now you have to wait even longer for money? I've been approved for 3 weeks and still haven't seen a dime. Washington ESD is a joke!

•Have you checked your payment history on your ESD account? Sometimes there are issues that hold up payments even after approval.

•it just says 'payment issued' but no money in my account. This is insane!

•If it says payment issued but you haven't received it, you might need to contact your bank or check if there's an issue with your direct deposit information.

I'm in the same boat - just got approved after 5 weeks in adjudication. Did anyone else have to verify their identity during the process? I'm wondering if that affects payment timing.

•ID verification is pretty common now. It shouldn't delay your payment once you're approved, but make sure you completed all the verification steps they requested.

•I think I did everything they asked for. Fingers crossed I see something soon!

Quick question - do you get a notification when the payment is processed or do you just have to keep checking your account?

•I got a text message when mine was processed but I think I had to sign up for notifications in my account settings

•I'll check my notification settings. Thanks!

For what it's worth, I got approved on a Tuesday and the money was in my account Thursday morning. Washington ESD seems to process payments pretty quickly once they get through the approval backlog.

•That gives me hope! I was approved yesterday (Wednesday) so maybe I'll see something by Friday or Monday.

•Sounds about right. Just keep an eye on your account and you should see it soon.

Make sure your address is up to date in your account too. I had a friend whose payment got delayed because they moved and forgot to update their address with Washington ESD.

•Good point! I haven't moved but I'll double-check all my info is correct.

I remember when I was waiting for my first payment, I was so anxious about it. But once Washington ESD approves your claim, they're usually pretty efficient with getting the money out. The hard part is getting approved in the first place!

•Exactly! The waiting for approval was the worst part. I'm just hoping the payment part goes smoothly.

•Same here. Once I got approved, the payments came regularly every week without issues.

Does anyone know if they pay out on weekends or just business days? I'm trying to figure out if I should expect something over the weekend.

•Washington ESD processes payments on business days, but your bank might deposit it on weekends depending on their policies. Most people see deposits Tuesday through Friday.

•That makes sense. I'll keep checking but won't panic if I don't see anything over the weekend.

I had to call Washington ESD to get an update on my payment status after approval. Could not get through for days until someone told me about Claimyr. It's a service that calls for you and gets you connected to an actual person. Worth checking out if you need to talk to someone about your payment.

•A couple people mentioned that service. I might try it if I don't see my payment by early next week.

•I used Claimyr too when I had payment issues. It's legit and saved me hours of calling.

Just to add another data point - I was approved on a Friday and got paid the following Tuesday. So it was 2 business days for me.

•Thanks for sharing! That timeline sounds reasonable. I was approved on Wednesday so maybe Thursday or Friday for me.

Don't forget that you'll need to keep filing weekly claims even after you get your first payment. I made that mistake and missed a week of benefits.

•Good reminder! I've been filing every week during adjudication so I'll keep doing that.

•Yeah, you have to keep filing weekly claims until you're back to work or your benefit year ends. It's easy to forget once you start getting paid.

I've been through this process twice now and both times I got my payment within 3 business days of approval. Washington ESD is slow to approve but once they do, the payments are reliable.

•That's reassuring to hear from someone who's been through it multiple times. I feel better about the timeline now.

•Same experience here. The approval process is painful but payments come through consistently after that.

One thing to watch out for - if you have any overpayments or other issues on your account, they might offset your payment. Check your account for any holds or deductions.

Lucas Bey
•I'll check that. I don't think I have any issues but better to be safe.

The good news is that once you get your first payment, the weekly ones usually come like clockwork as long as you keep filing your claims and meet the work search requirements.

•You'll get there. The first payment is always the most stressful but after that it becomes routine.

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but I'd give it a full week before worrying. Sometimes there are delays with bank processing or holidays that can slow things down.

I went through a similar situation earlier this year - approved after about 5 weeks in adjudication. The payment showed up in my account exactly 3 business days later via direct deposit. The relief when that first deposit hits is incredible! Make sure to check your payment history on the ESD website too, as it will show when the payment was issued. From what I've seen, Washington ESD is pretty consistent with the 2-4 business day timeframe once you're approved. Hang in there, you're almost at the finish line!
