How do I know if my unemployment claim was approved Washington ESD?

Filed my initial unemployment claim with Washington ESD about 10 days ago and I'm not sure how to tell if it got approved or not. I can log into my account on the website but it's confusing - there's different sections showing different things. My claim status says 'active' but I haven't received any payments yet. Is there a specific place I should be looking to confirm my claim was actually approved? Also when should I expect to see money if it was approved?

Check your 'Claim Summary' section in your online account. If approved, you'll see your weekly benefit amount listed there, usually something like $XXX per week. Also look for any correspondence in your online inbox - they send approval letters through the secure messaging system.

0 coins

Found the claim summary - it shows $421 weekly benefit amount. Does that mean I'm approved?

0 coins

Yes, if you see a dollar amount for your weekly benefit, that means your claim was approved. You should start receiving payments after you file your first weekly claim.

0 coins

You should receive a monetary determination letter in the mail within 1-2 weeks of filing. This will show your weekly benefit amount if approved. You can also check your eServices account - look for a 'Weekly Claims' tab to appear once your claim is processed.

0 coins

Thanks! I don't see a weekly claims tab yet so I guess it's still processing. How long does that usually take?

0 coins

Usually 7-10 business days for a straightforward claim. If there are any issues it could take longer and go into adjudication.

0 coins

You also need to file weekly claims to actually get paid. Having an approved claim doesn't automatically send you money - you have to certify every week that you're still unemployed and looking for work.

0 coins

Oh I didn't know that! How do I file the weekly claims?

0 coins

Log into your account and look for 'File Weekly Claim' or something similar. You'll need to answer questions about job search activities and any work you did that week.

0 coins

You should get a determination letter in the mail within 2-3 weeks of filing your initial claim. Check your online account too - under 'Letters' there should be a monetary determination if your claim was approved. It will show your weekly benefit amount and how many weeks you're eligible for.

0 coins

I checked the letters section but don't see anything yet. Should I be worried?

0 coins

Not necessarily, sometimes it takes the full 3 weeks especially if they need to verify your wages with employers.

0 coins

same boat here, filed 10 days ago and still waiting. the suspense is killing me because i need to know if i should keep looking for work or focus on the job search requirements

0 coins

You should definitely keep looking for work regardless! The job search requirement starts immediately even before your claim is approved.

0 coins

oh great, more stress. thanks for letting me know though

0 coins

I was in the same boat last month - so confusing! If you're having trouble getting through to Washington ESD to confirm everything, I found this service called Claimyr that helped me get connected to an actual agent. They have a website at claimyr.com and there's a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Saved me hours of calling and getting busy signals.

0 coins

Thanks, I might check that out if I can't figure this out on my own.

0 coins

Never heard of that service before. Is it legit or just another way to get charged for something you can do yourself?

0 coins

It's legit - they basically just help you get through the phone queue. I was skeptical too but it actually worked when I couldn't reach anyone for days.

0 coins

If you're having trouble getting through to Washington ESD to check your claim status, I found this service called Claimyr that helps you actually reach an agent. They have a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works. Way better than calling 800 times a day and getting busy signals.

0 coins

Really? I've been trying to call for days with no luck. Does it actually work?

0 coins

Yeah, used it last month when I had an adjudication issue. Got through to someone at Washington ESD in like 20 minutes instead of spending all day dialing.

0 coins

You should receive a determination letter in the mail within 10-14 business days after filing. The letter will clearly state if your claim was approved or denied. You can also check your account online - if it shows a weekly benefit amount and allows you to file weekly claims, that's usually a good sign your claim was approved.

0 coins

Thanks! I can file weekly claims so that's promising. Should I keep filing them even if I haven't gotten the letter yet?

0 coins

Yes, definitely keep filing your weekly claims. If there's an issue, they'll let you know, but you don't want to miss filing weeks while waiting for the determination letter.

0 coins

Check your claim status online - if it shows 'monetarily eligible' that usually means you're approved. If it says 'adjudication in progress' then they're still reviewing something about your claim.

0 coins

Mine just says 'claim filed' - is that different from those statuses?

0 coins

That probably means they haven't finished processing your initial claim yet. Give it another week.

0 coins

same boat here, filed last week and still waiting. this is stressful

0 coins

Yeah it really is! Bills don't wait for bureaucracy unfortunately

0 coins

If your claim gets approved, you'll definitely know because Washington ESD will send you a determination letter with your weekly benefit amount. You'll also be able to file weekly claims online. If there are any issues with your claim, it might go to adjudication which can take several weeks to resolve.

0 coins

What kind of issues would cause it to go to adjudication?

0 coins

Things like questions about why you left your job, eligibility issues, or if they need to verify information with your employer. Sometimes it's just routine verification.

0 coins

I had such a hard time getting through to Washington ESD when my claim was stuck. Tried calling for weeks with no luck. Finally used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get connected to an actual agent. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ. Turned out my claim was approved but there was a small issue they needed to clarify.

0 coins

Interesting, never heard of that. Did it actually work for you?

0 coins

Yeah it did! I was skeptical at first but got through the same day. Way better than sitting on hold for hours.

0 coins

How much does something like that cost though?

0 coins

Honestly wasn't too bad considering the time and stress it saved me. Worth it when you need answers.

0 coins

Active claim status usually means approved, but watch out for any 'pending' or 'under review' flags. Those typically indicate there might be an issue that needs to be resolved before payments start. Also check if there are any 'To Do' items in your account that need attention.

0 coins

I don't see any pending flags or to-do items. Just says active with the weekly benefit amount.

0 coins

Sounds like you're good to go then. Make sure to file your weekly claims on time - you can usually file starting Sunday for the previous week.

0 coins

UGH the Washington ESD system is SO CONFUSING! Why can't they just send a simple email saying 'yes you're approved' or 'no you're not'? Instead we get these cryptic status messages that don't tell us anything!

0 coins

tell me about it, i've been checking my account 10 times a day like a crazy person

0 coins

I know it's frustrating but they have to follow federal guidelines for how they communicate claim decisions.

0 coins

ugh this whole system is so confusing!! why cant they just make it clear whether youre approved or not instead of making us guess

0 coins

I agree it's not user-friendly. The interface could definitely be clearer about claim status vs payment status vs weekly filing requirements.

0 coins

exactly! and then when you call for help you can never get through to anyone

0 coins

The official timeline is 21 days for a determination. If you filed 2 weeks ago, you should hear something within the next week. Make sure you're filing your weekly claims even if you haven't gotten approval yet - you can't get paid for weeks you don't claim.

0 coins

Wait, I can file weekly claims before I know if I'm approved? The system let me file one but I thought maybe I wasn't supposed to.

0 coins

Yes, absolutely file them! If you're approved, you'll get paid for those weeks. If not, no harm done.

0 coins

The Washington ESD system is SO confusing. Why can't they just send a simple email saying approved or denied??

0 coins

I agree the communication could be clearer. The paper letters are the official notification method they use.

0 coins

It's 2025, who uses paper for everything still? So backwards.

0 coins

same boat here, filed 2 weeks ago and still waiting for something official. the online portal is confusing as hell

0 coins

The online system can be really unclear about status updates. As long as you can access your weekly claim filing, you're probably in good shape. The determination letter is the official confirmation though.

0 coins

ok cool, at least i'm not the only one confused by this whole process

0 coins

Update: Just checked my account again and now I see a 'File Weekly Claim' button! I think that means it was approved?

0 coins

Yes! That's exactly what it means. You should also see your weekly benefit amount listed somewhere in your account now.

0 coins

lucky! still waiting on mine

0 coins

When you do get approved make sure you file your weekly claims every week even if you haven't found work yet. Miss a week and you lose that week's benefits permanently.

0 coins

Good to know! When are they due each week?

0 coins

You can file starting Sunday for the previous week. I always do mine Sunday morning so I don't forget.

0 coins

Just make sure to file before the cutoff time on Saturday night if you wait until later in the week.

0 coins

Also remember you need to do job search activities and keep a log. Washington ESD requires 3 job search activities per week.

0 coins

What counts as a job search activity?

0 coins

Applying for jobs, networking events, career fairs, informational interviews. You log them in WorkSourceWA.

0 coins

You should also receive a monetary determination letter either by mail or in your online inbox. This will officially confirm your approval and show your benefit amount, how long benefits will last, etc.

0 coins

I haven't gotten any letter yet. Should I be worried?

0 coins

Not necessarily - sometimes they're slow with the paperwork. If your online account shows the benefit amount, you're probably fine.

0 coins

I remember when I got my determination letter it came in this official looking envelope from Washington ESD. Had my weekly benefit amount and everything. But the online status updated first before the letter arrived.

0 coins

What did the online status say when you got approved?

0 coins

It showed my weekly benefit amount under 'Claim Summary' and said 'monetarily eligible' I think.

0 coins

update: just checked and mine now shows a weekly benefit amount! guess that means i'm approved even though i haven't gotten the letter yet

0 coins

Lucky! Still nothing on mine. How long between when you filed and when it showed up?

0 coins

exactly 2 weeks from when i filed the initial claim

0 coins

The whole system gives me anxiety. Filed two weeks ago and nothing yet. Should I be worried?

0 coins

Two weeks isn't unusual, especially if they're verifying information with your employer. Keep checking your account and mail.

0 coins

If you're really worried about the status, that Claimyr service I mentioned could help you get through to ask about your specific claim.

0 coins

I was in the exact same situation last month - filed my claim and then spent weeks wondering if it actually went through. The waiting is brutal! What helped me was using Claimyr to get through to an actual Washington ESD agent who could check my claim status over the phone. The service connects you directly to agents without having to wait on hold for hours. You can check it out at claimyr.com and they have a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Way easier than trying to decode the online portal.

0 coins

Never heard of Claimyr before but that sounds really helpful. Did they charge you a lot for the service?

0 coins

It was totally worth it for the peace of mind. Much cheaper than the stress of not knowing what's happening with my claim.

0 coins

interesting, might have to try that if I can't get through the regular way

0 coins

Just remember you need to keep track of your job search activities too. Washington ESD requires you to apply for jobs and keep records of your search efforts.

0 coins

How many jobs do I need to apply for each week?

0 coins

I think it's 3 job contacts per week minimum, but check your specific requirements in your account or the paperwork they sent you.

0 coins

It's actually 3 job search activities per week, not necessarily 3 applications. Can include networking, interviews, job fairs, etc.

0 coins

when i filed mine it took like 2 weeks before i saw any money even after approval. dont panic if payments dont show up immediately

0 coins

Good to know, thanks!

0 coins

Make sure you're checking the right section of the website. I was looking in the wrong place for weeks thinking my claim wasn't approved when it actually was. The navigation on that site is terrible.

0 coins

Yeah the website is definitely not intuitive. Which section should I be looking at?

0 coins

Go to the main dashboard after logging in, then look for 'Claim Information' or 'Benefit Summary' - that's where you'll see your weekly benefit amount if approved.

0 coins

For anyone still waiting and getting anxious about it, that Claimyr service I mentioned earlier (claimyr.com) can help you get through to Washington ESD to check on your claim status directly with an agent. Sometimes they can see things in the system that don't show up online yet.

0 coins

How much does something like that cost though?

0 coins

I'd rather pay a little to get answers than sit here worrying for weeks. Peace of mind is worth it when you need to know about your benefits.

0 coins

Pro tip: create an account on WorkSourceWA too if you haven't already. You'll need it for the job search requirements once your claim is approved.

0 coins

Thanks for the reminder! I'll set that up now while I'm thinking about it.

0 coins

Pro tip: if you're approved, you'll see your 'Claim Balance' show up in your account. That's the total amount you're eligible for over the benefit year. If that appears, you're definitely approved.

0 coins

Good to know! I'll keep watching for that.

0 coins

This is helpful info, wish Washington ESD explained this stuff better on their website

0 coins

The Washington ESD system is deliberately confusing I swear. They make it so hard to get straight answers about your claim status. I've been calling for weeks and can never get through to a human being!

0 coins

The phone lines are definitely overloaded. Best times to call are usually right when they open at 8 AM or during lunch hours when call volume might be lower.

0 coins

I've tried calling at 8 AM sharp and still get busy signals. This whole system is broken.

0 coins

That's exactly why I ended up using Claimyr - saved me so much time and frustration trying to get through on my own.

0 coins

UPDATE: Finally got my determination letter in the mail today! Approved for $547/week. Such a relief.

0 coins

Congrats! How long did it end up taking total?

0 coins

About 12 days from when I first filed. Not too bad I guess.

0 coins

been through this process 3 times over the years (thanks economy) and honestly the waiting is the worst part. Once you see that weekly benefit amount appear in your account you're golden

0 coins

Thanks for the reassurance. The not knowing is definitely stressing me out.

0 coins

totally get it, hang in there. most claims get approved unless there's something unusual about your work history

0 coins

If you're still confused about your status, definitely try to speak with someone at Washington ESD. I know it's hard to get through on the phone but sometimes that's the only way to get a clear answer about your specific situation.

0 coins

Good luck getting through to them! I've been trying for days and either get a busy signal or get disconnected after waiting on hold.

0 coins

That's exactly why I ended up using Claimyr - they somehow get you connected much faster than calling on your own. Worth it when you need answers quickly.

0 coins

Make sure to read that determination letter carefully. It will tell you exactly how much you can earn per week without affecting your benefits.

0 coins

Good point, I should read through all the fine print.

0 coins

Here are the specific things to look for to know if your claim was approved: 1) You receive a monetary determination letter showing your weekly benefit amount, 2) Your online account shows an active claim with a benefit year
