How do I know if my unemployment claim was approved in Washington ESD?
I submitted my initial unemployment claim through Washington ESD about 10 days ago and I'm not sure how to tell if it's been approved or not. I've been filing my weekly claims but I haven't received any payments yet. My account just shows 'claim under review' but doesn't give me any clear indication of approval status. Should I have gotten some kind of approval letter by now? I'm starting to worry that something went wrong with my application.

Check your eServices account on the Washington ESD website. Once approved, you'll see your weekly benefit amount listed and your claim status will change from 'under review' to 'active'. You should also receive a monetary determination letter in the mail within 1-2 weeks of filing.

•Thanks! I'll log in and check that. What exactly should I be looking for in the monetary determination letter?

•The letter will show your weekly benefit amount, how long your benefits will last, and any wages they used to calculate your benefits. It's the official approval document.

I had the same question when I filed mine. It took about 2 weeks before I got the letter and my first payment. The waiting can be nerve-wracking but that timeline seems pretty normal.

•Did you get paid for those first two weeks while you were waiting for approval?

Sophia Rodriguez
•Yes, once approved I got paid for all the weeks I had filed claims for, including the waiting period. It was backdated.

If you're having trouble getting through to Washington ESD to check your status, I found this service called Claimyr that helps you get connected to an agent faster. They have a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Made it way easier than trying to call repeatedly myself.

•How does that work exactly? I've been trying to call for days but keep getting the busy signal.

•You just go to claimyr.com and they handle the calling and waiting for you. When an agent becomes available, they connect you directly. Saves hours of redialing.

•That sounds too good to be true. Is there a catch or does it cost money?

The approval process can take longer if there are any issues with your claim that need adjudication. Things like quit vs fired, availability questions, or wage verification can slow things down significantly.

•How would I know if my claim is in adjudication? My account doesn't show anything about that.

Olivia Martinez
•Usually it will say 'adjudication in progress' or 'pending adjudication' somewhere in your claim status. If you don't see that, you're probably just in the normal processing queue.

UGH this whole system is so confusing! Why can't they just send a simple email saying approved or denied?? I've been stressed for weeks not knowing what's happening.

•I totally understand the frustration. The system could definitely be more user-friendly with clearer status updates.

•Same here! I keep checking my account multiple times a day hoping for some kind of update.

just keep filing your weekly claims even if you haven't gotten approved yet. if you stop filing you'll lose those weeks

•Good point, I've been doing that. Better safe than sorry.

Another thing to check - make sure you've completed all the required steps in your eServices account. Sometimes there are additional forms or verifications needed that aren't obvious.

Emily Nguyen-Smith
•I'll double-check that. Where would I find those additional requirements?

James Johnson
•Log into your account and look for any notifications or action items on your dashboard. They should be highlighted if there's something you need to complete.

Also worth noting - you might get a separate letter about job search requirements even before your monetary determination. Don't panic if you get that first, it doesn't mean anything bad about your claim.

Emily Nguyen-Smith
•What are the job search requirements exactly? I haven't received anything about that yet.

Sophia Rodriguez
•You need to make 3 job search contacts per week and log them in the system. The letter will have all the details when you get it.

Update on the Claimyr thing - I used it again yesterday to check on something else and got through to an agent in about 20 minutes. Way better than the 2+ hours I usually spend trying to call.

•Okay you've convinced me to try it. My claim has been pending for 3 weeks and I need answers.

•Definitely worth it for situations like yours. The agents can see exactly what's holding up your claim.

i remember when i first filed it took forever to get any kind of confirmation. the waiting is the worst part but once it gets approved everything moves pretty fast

Pro tip: If your claim gets approved, you should receive your first payment within 2-3 business days if you have direct deposit set up. Paper checks take longer.

•I did set up direct deposit when I filed. Hopefully that helps speed things up.

•It definitely does. Make sure your bank info is correct in your account settings.

Has anyone ever had their claim denied after waiting this long? I'm starting to imagine worst case scenarios...

•Try not to worry too much. If there were serious issues with your eligibility, they usually contact you much sooner for additional information.

•Most claims that get denied happen pretty quickly. The fact that you're still in processing is actually a good sign.

make sure you're checking both your physical mail and your email. sometimes they send important stuff to both places

For anyone still struggling to reach Washington ESD, that Claimyr service I mentioned worked again this morning. Got connected in under 30 minutes to check my payment status. Check out claimyr.com if you need to talk to someone quickly.

•Awesome! It's such a relief when you can actually get real answers from a person instead of just waiting and wondering.

Just wanted to add - if you haven't heard anything after 3 weeks, that's when I'd definitely try to contact them directly. Two weeks is normal but three starts getting into territory where there might be an issue.

•I'm at about 10 days right now so I'll give it another week before I start really worrying.

•That sounds like a good plan. Most people hear back within 2 weeks so you should be getting close.

when i got approved my account changed overnight and then i got the letter like 3 days later so keep checking online

Final tip - once you do get approved, make sure you understand when your weekly claims are due. Missing a week can cause payment delays even after approval.

I'm in a similar situation - filed about 8 days ago and still showing "claim under review" status. Reading through all these responses is really reassuring though! I had no idea about checking for additional forms in the eServices account, so I'm going to log in and make sure I haven't missed anything. The tip about continuing to file weekly claims even while waiting for approval is really important too - I almost stopped filing thinking I should wait for approval first. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences!

•Welcome to the waiting game! 8 days is still well within the normal timeframe, so try not to stress too much. Definitely smart to double-check for any missing forms - I've seen people get delayed just because they missed uploading one document. And yes, absolutely keep filing those weekly claims! Even if it feels weird filing when you're not sure if you're approved yet, you'll be so glad you did when the payments eventually come through backdated. The anticipation is brutal but it sounds like you're doing everything right!

•@Isabella Tucker You re'definitely not alone in this! I just went through the same thing last month. One thing I learned is to also check if you have any messages in your eServices inbox - sometimes they send requests for additional info there that don t'show up as obvious alerts. The weekly filing thing tripped me up at first too, but it s'so crucial. I stopped filing for one week thinking I d'wait for approval and it caused a gap in my benefits later. The whole process is nerve-wracking but 8 days is totally normal. Hang in there!

•@Isabella Tucker I m'glad this thread is helping you too! I was in the exact same mindset about waiting to file weekly claims until approval - it seems so counterintuitive but everyone here convinced me to keep filing. I checked my eServices account after reading these comments and found I actually did have one additional verification form that wasn t'super obvious. Make sure to look in every tab and section! The inbox tip from @Joshua Wood is spot on too - I almost missed an important message there. It s such'a relief to know that 8-10 days is still totally normal. We ve got'this!
