How do I know if my unemployment claim was approved - Washington ESD not sending confirmation
I submitted my initial unemployment claim through the Washington ESD website about 10 days ago and I'm getting really anxious because I haven't received any clear confirmation that it was approved. My claim status just says 'processed' but I'm not sure what that means exactly. I've been filing my weekly claims but I'm worried I'm doing something wrong. Should I have gotten an email or letter by now? The website doesn't really explain what happens after you submit everything. Has anyone else had trouble figuring out if their claim actually went through?

When you log into your Washington ESD account, look for a section called 'Payment Information' or 'Claim Summary.' If your claim was approved, you should see payment amounts listed there. The 'processed' status usually means they've reviewed your application but it doesn't necessarily mean approved yet.

•I see the payment information section but it just shows $0.00 for everything. Does that mean I was denied?

Gavin King
•Not necessarily - if you just filed 10 days ago, it might still be processing. The zero amounts could just mean no payments have been issued yet.

You should have gotten a monetary determination letter in the mail or through eServices. This tells you your weekly benefit amount and how many weeks you're eligible for. If you haven't gotten this after 10 days, something might be wrong.

•I haven't gotten anything in the mail yet. Should I be worried? I really need to know if I'm going to get benefits or not.

•Check your eServices messages in your Washington ESD account - sometimes they send important documents there instead of regular mail.

I had the same problem last month - couldn't get through to anyone at Washington ESD to check on my claim status. Spent hours on hold just to get disconnected. Finally used a service called Claimyr that actually got me through to a real person. They have this demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Basically they handle the calling and waiting for you.

•Is that legit? I'm desperate at this point but don't want to get scammed.

•Yeah it's real - claimyr.com. I was skeptical too but it actually worked. Got through to Washington ESD in like 2 hours instead of days of trying myself.

•Never heard of this but honestly might try it. I've been calling Washington ESD for a week straight with no luck.

THE WASHINGTON ESD SYSTEM IS TERRIBLE! I've been waiting 3 weeks for any kind of response about my claim. Filed everything correctly, keep getting hung up on when I call, and my claim just sits there saying 'under review.' This is ridiculous - people need money to live!

•I'm so worried this is going to happen to me too. How are we supposed to pay bills while waiting?

•I feel you. The system is overwhelmed and they clearly don't have enough staff to handle all the claims.

Here's what to look for to know if your Washington ESD claim was approved: 1) Monetary determination letter (shows your weekly benefit amount), 2) Your claim status should change from 'processed' to 'active' or 'payable', 3) You should see actual dollar amounts in your payment history, 4) You'll get a debit card in the mail if you chose that payment method. If none of these have happened after 2 weeks, there might be an issue with your claim.

•This is really helpful! I don't have any of these things yet. Should I be calling them or just wait longer?

•I'd try calling if it's been more than 2 weeks. The problem is getting through to someone who can actually help.

Check your spam folder for emails from Washington ESD! I almost missed my approval notification because it went to junk mail. Also make sure your address is correct in your profile - they mail important stuff.

•Good point - I'll check my spam folder right now.

•Yeah and double check that your phone number is right too in case they try to call you about something.

I'm in the same boat - filed 2 weeks ago and still don't know if I'm approved. The waiting is killing me. My rent is due next week and I have no idea if unemployment money is coming.

•At least I'm not the only one going through this. It's so stressful not knowing.

Anna Stewart
•This is exactly why the system is broken. People shouldn't have to stress like this about basic information.

Also check if there are any 'to-do' items or pending issues in your account. Sometimes Washington ESD needs additional information before they can approve your claim, but they don't always make it obvious.

•I don't see any to-do items in my account. Is that good or bad?

•That's good - means they have everything they need from you. Just might be a matter of waiting for them to process everything.

when i filed mine it took like 3 weeks to hear anything back. just keep filing your weekly claims even if you dont know if youre approved yet

•I've been doing the weekly claims but I'm worried I'm wasting my time if I'm not even approved.

•Keep filing them - if you are approved, you'll get back pay for those weeks. If you stop filing, you could lose benefits.

Update on the Claimyr thing - used it again yesterday to check on something else with Washington ESD and got through in about an hour. Way better than the 4+ hours I spent trying to call myself last time. Worth it just for the peace of mind of talking to an actual person.

•I might actually try this. How much does it cost?

Lucas Turner
•I'm not sure about the exact cost but it was worth it for me. Check their website claimyr.com for details.

Another thing to check - log into your account and look at your 'correspondence' or 'letters' section. Washington ESD sends a lot of stuff electronically now instead of through regular mail.

Mohammed Khan
•I found the correspondence section but it's empty. Should there be something there by now?
0 coins
Nathan Kim
•If your claim was approved, you should have gotten at least a monetary determination letter. Empty correspondence section after 10 days is a bit concerning.

I remember when I first filed, I was so paranoid about whether I was approved. Turns out my claim was fine but I just didn't know where to look for the confirmation. The whole system is confusing for first-time filers.

Mohammed Khan
•That makes me feel a little better. I keep thinking I must have done something wrong.

•nah youre probably fine, the system just takes forever

Has anyone tried calling the Washington ESD customer service line? I've been trying for DAYS and either get busy signal or get disconnected after waiting on hold for hours. It's absolutely ridiculous!

•I tried calling once and gave up after 45 minutes on hold. I don't have time to sit on the phone all day.

•Same here - I've probably spent 10+ hours trying to get through to someone. That Claimyr service is starting to sound pretty good.

For anyone still confused about approval status, here's the timeline: Initial claim filed → Processing (1-2 weeks) → Monetary determination letter → First payment (if everything's good). If you haven't gotten the monetary determination letter after 2 weeks, there's probably an issue that needs to be resolved.

Mohammed Khan
•This timeline is super helpful. I'm at the 10-day mark so maybe I just need to wait a few more days.

Eleanor Foster
•Yeah but don't wait too long - if there is an issue, it's better to address it sooner rather than later.

One more thing - make sure you're looking at the right claim if you've filed before. Sometimes people accidentally look at old claims and think their new one isn't approved.

Mohammed Khan
•This is my first time filing so I only have one claim to look at.

Gavin King
•OK good, that eliminates that possibility. Just keep checking your account and be patient for a few more days.

Update - I just tried that Claimyr service and actually got through to Washington ESD! The agent confirmed my claim was approved but there was a processing delay. Finally have peace of mind. Thanks for the recommendation!

I'm a newcomer here and going through the exact same thing! Filed my claim about a week ago and the uncertainty is driving me crazy. Reading through all these responses is actually really reassuring - sounds like this is totally normal and I just need to be more patient. I'm definitely going to check my spam folder and the correspondence section in my account like people suggested. Thanks for asking this question Mohammed, I was too nervous to post but needed these answers too!
