How do you know if your unemployment is approved Washington ESD?
I submitted my unemployment claim to Washington ESD about 10 days ago and I'm getting anxious about whether it's been approved or not. I can log into my account but I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be looking for to know if my claim went through. The status just says 'claim processed' but I haven't received any money yet. Should I have gotten some kind of confirmation by now? What are the signs that your claim is actually approved and benefits will start coming?

Check your account on the Washington ESD website - there should be a section that shows your claim status. If it's approved, you'll see 'Claim Allowed' or something similar. You should also get a determination letter either by mail or in your online account.

•I see 'claim processed' but not 'claim allowed' - does that mean it's still pending?

Vanessa Figueroa
•Yeah, 'claim processed' just means they received it. You're waiting for the actual determination which can take 2-3 weeks.

You'll get a monetary determination letter that shows your weekly benefit amount if you're approved. That's the clearest sign. Also look for any issues that need to be resolved in your account.

•How long did it take for you to get your determination letter?

Abby Marshall
•Mine took about 2 weeks, but I've heard it can be longer if there are any complications with your work history.

I was stuck in this same situation last month. Couldn't get through to Washington ESD on the phone after trying for days. Finally found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get connected to an actual agent who could check my claim status. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Super easy to use and I got answers the same day.

•How much does that cost? I'm already broke waiting for benefits.

•It's worth it when you consider how much time you save not calling Washington ESD over and over. The peace of mind alone was huge for me.

•I might try this if I don't hear anything soon. The not knowing is driving me crazy.

WASHINGTON ESD IS SO SLOW! I waited 3 weeks just to find out my claim was denied because of some paperwork issue they never told me about. The system is broken!!!

Vanessa Figueroa
•Did you appeal the denial? You have 30 days from the determination date.

Laila Prince
•Yeah I'm working on the appeal now but it's another waiting game. So frustrating.

The easiest way to tell is if you can file your first weekly claim. If the system lets you certify for benefits, that usually means your claim is approved. If there are issues, it won't let you proceed with weekly claims.

•I haven't tried filing a weekly claim yet. Should I wait for the determination letter first?
0 coins
Isabel Vega
•No, you should file weekly claims starting the week after you applied, even if your claim is still pending. You can backdate if needed.

Dominique Adams
•This is correct - file weekly claims regardless of your claim status to avoid missing out on benefits.

same boat here, applied 2 weeks ago and still nothing. this is stressful when you have bills to pay

Diez Ellis
•Right? I'm trying not to panic but rent is due soon.

Abby Marshall
•Hang in there, once it's approved you'll get backpay for all the weeks you were eligible.

Also check if you have any 'fact-finding' questionnaires to complete. Sometimes claims get held up because there's additional information needed and people don't realize they have to respond to these.

•Where would I find those? I don't see anything obvious in my account.

•Look for a section called 'correspondence' or 'messages' in your Washington ESD account. They might also mail them to you.

My claim got approved but I never got the determination letter in the mail. Found out it was in my online account under documents. Make sure to check there too.

•Good tip! I'll check my documents section.

•Yeah mine was online only too. I think they're trying to go paperless.

If you're really anxious about it, you can try calling Washington ESD but good luck getting through. I tried for 3 days straight and gave up. That Claimyr thing someone mentioned earlier might be worth looking into.

•I tried calling this morning and got the busy signal immediately. So frustrating.

•That's exactly why I used Claimyr. Saved me hours of redialing and actually got to talk to someone who could help.

Watch for emails too. Washington ESD sent me an email when my claim was approved, though it took a few days after the online status updated.

•I'll keep checking my email. Haven't gotten anything yet.

•Make sure to check spam folder too. Sometimes their emails end up there.

been waiting 4 weeks now and still no word. this is ridiculous. how are people supposed to survive like this??

•4 weeks is way too long. You should definitely call or use one of those services to get through to them.

•Have you checked if your claim is in adjudication? That can add weeks to the process.

The determination letter will show your weekly benefit amount and the effective dates. That's the official approval. Once you get that, you know you're good to go.

Diez Ellis
•How much detail does the determination letter have? Will it explain why I was approved or denied?
0 coins
Summer Green
•Yes, it breaks down your earnings history, benefit amount calculation, and any conditions. Very detailed.

Pro tip: if you can see a weekly benefit amount in your account (not $0), that's usually a good sign your claim is approved even before you get the official letter.

Diez Ellis
•Mine shows $0 right now. Does that mean it's not approved yet?
0 coins
Gael Robinson
•Not necessarily. It might just mean they haven't processed the monetary determination yet. Give it more time.

I got my approval but then had to wait another week for the debit card to arrive. Just FYI that there might be additional delays even after approval.

Diez Ellis
•How long did the debit card take to arrive?

Edward McBride
•About 5-7 business days. You can also set up direct deposit to avoid waiting for the card.

Check your claim summary page. It should show your claim status, weekly benefit amount, and any outstanding issues. That's your one-stop shop for knowing where you stand.

Diez Ellis
•Found the claim summary page. It shows some basic info but still says 'pending' for status.

Darcy Moore
•Pending is normal for the first couple weeks. Keep filing your weekly claims while you wait.

Another option is to use Claimyr to get through to Washington ESD faster. My cousin used it last month when her claim was stuck and got answers right away. Check out their demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ to see how it works.

You'll know for sure when you start getting payments. Everything else is just preliminary. The money hitting your account is the real confirmation.

•That's what I'm really waiting for. All this uncertainty is killing me.

•I know the feeling. Hang in there, it does eventually come through.

Don't forget to keep doing your job search activities even while waiting for approval. Washington ESD requires 3 job contacts per week and they can ask for proof at any time.
0 coins
Diez Ellis
•Good reminder. I've been so focused on the claim status I almost forgot about the job search requirements.
0 coins
Rita Jacobs
•Yeah, stay on top of that. They can deny benefits if you don't meet the work search requirements.

My experience was: claim processed → determination letter → first payment about 2 weeks later. The waiting is the worst part but it does happen eventually.

Diez Ellis
•Thanks for the timeline. That helps me know what to expect.

•That's pretty typical. Some people get lucky and it's faster, others take longer if there are complications.
