ESD portal login loop - 'session expired' immediately after signing in

Is anyone else having trouble logging into the ESD unemployment portal this week? For the past 3 days, I sign in with my username and password, and as soon as it should take me to my dashboard, I get a "session expired" message and it kicks me right back to the login page. I've tried different browsers (Chrome, Firefox, and even Edge), cleared my cookies, and even tried on my phone but keep getting the same result. I have weekly claims to file and I'm getting really anxious about missing deadlines. Has ESD mentioned any system issues? Any suggestions on how to fix this login loop nightmare?

Same thing here since Tuesday!! It's driving me CRAZY. I called the regular number like 27 times yesterday and couldn't get through to anyone. My claim is in adjudication and I need to check if they need more info from me. The whole system is garbage.

I'm dealing with this exact issue right now! Session expired message keeps popping up immediately after login. I checked ESD's Twitter and they haven't mentioned any system outages. Have you tried using incognito/private browsing mode? That sometimes helps with weird session cookie issues. Also, try accessing it at a different time - maybe very early morning or late evening when server load might be lower?

Thanks for the suggestions. Just tried incognito mode and still having the same problem. I'll try late tonight and see if that helps. I'm worried about my payments being delayed if I can't file on time.

This is a known issue that's affecting quite a few people right now. The technical team at ESD is aware of it and working on a fix. In the meantime, here are some workarounds that have helped other claimants: 1. Try logging in using Internet Explorer (if you still have it) - some older government systems work better with IE 2. Disable any ad blockers or browser extensions before logging in 3. Make sure your browser is fully updated 4. Try clearing your browser's cache completely (not just cookies) 5. If you have a VPN, try turning it off before logging in If none of these work and you need to file your weekly claim urgently, remember you can also file by phone using the automated system at 800-318-6022.

Thank you so much for the detailed suggestions! I tried disabling my ad blocker and that didn't work, but I'll try the other options. I didn't know about filing by phone - that might be my backup plan if I can't get in by tomorrow.

I had this problem last month and what fixed it for me was completely restarting my router. For some reason my IP address was getting flagged by their security system. After I got a new IP from my ISP by restarting the router I could log in again. Worth a try maybe?

That's an interesting solution I haven't heard before. The session expired error can sometimes be related to IP address issues, especially if the system detects multiple login attempts from different devices on the same network. The ESD system has been implementing stricter security measures lately to prevent fraud, which unfortunately creates these kinds of legitimate user headaches.

If you urgently need to reach an ESD agent about this (or any claim issues), I'd recommend trying Claimyr. It helped me get through last month when I was dealing with a similar technical issue. Instead of redialing hundreds of times, their system holds your place in line and calls you back when an agent is available. I was skeptical at first but their video demo convinced me: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Their website is claimyr.com - definitely better than wasting hours trying to get through on your own.

does it actually work tho? ive heard of these services before but seems like nobody can get thru to esd these days

Yes, it did work for me. I was connected with an agent within about 2 hours of using it, whereas I had spent 3 days prior trying to get through on my own with no success. The agent was able to help me with my specific login issues.

I tried AGAIN this morning and it's STILL not working!! This is such BS! My rent is due next week and I'm going to be late AGAIN because of their stupid broken website. WHY can't they just make a system that WORKS?!?! I swear they do this on purpose to avoid paying us.

I feel your frustration. Maybe try the phone filing option that someone mentioned above? At least that way your claim gets submitted even if you can't access the website. Hope it gets resolved soon for all of us dealing with this!

I work with ESD claims regularly, and this particular issue (session expired loop) is often related to their recent security updates. While the suggestions others have provided are good, there's one more thing to try: access the portal through the main SecureAccess Washington (SAW) website (https://secureaccess.wa.gov/) rather than going directly to the ESD login page. If that doesn't work, the automated phone system (800-318-6022) is reliable for filing weekly claims. Keep your claim ID number and PIN handy. You can access it 24/7, and it will ensure you don't miss filing deadlines while the portal issues are being resolved. Also, important to note: even if you can't log in, as long as you attempt to file your weekly claim within the appropriate week, you can request that it be backdated once you do get through to an agent or regain access to the system.

Thank you for this information! I just tried going through the SAW website as you suggested, and it WORKED! I was able to get in and file my weekly claim. Such a relief! For anyone else having this issue, definitely try accessing it through SecureAccess Washington rather than directly through the ESD unemployment page.

My cousin works in IT (not for ESD) but he says most government websites are running on ancient systems and whenever they try to update security it breaks something else. Not surprised this is happening right when they're probably doing end of quarter updates or whatever.

Glad to hear the SAW portal workaround solved it for you! For anyone else still experiencing issues, ESD just posted on their website that they're aware of the login problems affecting some users and expect to have it fully resolved by tomorrow. They've extended the weekly claim filing deadline by 2 days this week to accommodate for the technical difficulties.

Where did you see this?? I just checked their website and Twitter and don't see ANY announcements about the problems or extended deadlines??

It's on the alert banner that appears at the top of the main ESD unemployment benefits page when you access it from a desktop browser. It might not be showing on mobile. They typically update these system notices once daily, usually in the morning.
