ESD finally approved claim after 8 weeks - how long for payment to hit bank account?

OMG finally some good news!!! After waiting for 8 freaking weeks my claim FINALLY got approved today!! Last employer tried saying I was fired but they couldn't provide any actual reason when ESD questioned them (probably because there wasn't one - my manager just didn't like me). My eServices account is showing 'paid' status now but nothing in my bank account yet. Anyone know how long it typically takes for the money to show up after it says 'paid'? I'm legit down to my last $18 and rent is due in 3 days... Starting to panic a little!!

Congrats on getting approved! Such a relief, right? Usually takes 2-3 business days for the funds to hit your account once it shows 'paid' in the system. But it depends on your bank too - some process ACH transfers faster than others. If you set up direct deposit when you filed your claim, it should be pretty quick. If you're getting it on the ESD debit card, that can sometimes take an extra day.

Thank you!! Yes such a HUGE relief. I did set up direct deposit with my credit union. Hoping it comes through by Friday then! Fingers crossed!

Congratulations on your approval! Regarding payment timing: if it shows 'paid' status today, standard processing time is 24-72 hours for direct deposit. However, weekends don't count in that timeframe. Also, if this is your first payment after approval, it might include multiple weeks of back pay which can sometimes trigger additional verification before release. If you don't see it by Monday, I'd recommend calling ESD to check the status. Also worth noting - did your claim have to go through the adjudication process? If so, they often release payments in batches for previously held weeks.

Yes it went through adjudication which is why it took so long! They're paying me for all 8 weeks at once. That's interesting about the verification for larger amounts - I hope that doesn't cause more delays. Will definitely call if nothing by Monday.

THE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO MAKE US SUFFER!!! 8 WEEKS is RIDICULOUS!!! I had to wait 11 weeks last year and almost got evicted. Even after it said "paid" I had to wait another 5 days for no reason at all. ESD is a complete joke and they don't care about us at all!!!!!

Whoa, calm down. The system isn't perfect but they do eventually pay. The delays are usually because they have to investigate each case, especially when the employer contests it like OP's did. 5 days for payment to process isn't that unusual for any government system.

Easy for you to say CALM DOWN when you haven't lost your apartment waiting for THEIR broken system!!! They make it complicated ON PURPOSE!!!

If you need to follow up with ESD about the payment and can't get through on the phone lines (which is common), I recommend trying Claimyr. I was in your exact situation and couldn't reach anyone for days. Claimyr got me connected to an ESD agent in about 25 minutes when I'd been trying for a week on my own. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 If your payment doesn't arrive by tomorrow afternoon, it might be worth checking in with ESD directly to make sure there are no holds on the payment distribution.

Thanks for this! I've been wondering how anyone ever gets through to them. Saving this link just in case I need it. Hoping the payment just processes normally but good to have a backup plan.

Yes! It's showing the full amount for all 8 weeks. I checked each individual week in my claim history and they all say 'paid' now. Total is around $6,800 which matches what I expected based on my benefit amount.

My brother went through something similar last month... his claim was in adjudication for like 6 weeks, then suddenly got approved. The money showed up exactly 2 business days after it said 'paid' in his ESD account. BUT! Important thing - check if they took taxes out if you selected that option. My brother didn't realize they were withholding 10% for federal taxes and was surprised when the deposit was less than expected. Just so you're prepared!

Oh good point about the taxes! I did select to have them withheld so I wouldn't deal with it next year. Will adjust my expectations accordingly. Thanks for the heads up!

After it shows paid, the standard processing time is 24-72 hours, excluding weekends and holidays. I've been through this a few times during seasonal layoffs. First payment after approval sometimes takes a bit longer because they're processing multiple weeks at once. I suggest checking your bank account tomorrow morning - many banks post ACH transfers overnight. Also, make sure you continue filing your weekly claims while waiting for this payment to process.
