Finally received payment after 9-week pending status - bank deposit timing?

After what felt like FOREVER (9 weeks of checking my account daily), my ESD status finally switched from 'pending' to 'paid' today! I almost fell out of my chair when I saw it. But now I'm nervously refreshing my bank account every hour and nothing has shown up yet. Does anyone know how long it typically takes for the money to hit your account once ESD shows 'paid'? Really hoping it comes through before Monday since I've got rent due and already had to ask for an extension twice. This whole process has been such a nightmare.

Congratulations on finally getting past the pending stage! For direct deposit, it typically takes 24-48 business hours after it changes to 'paid' status. Since today is Friday, you might see it Monday morning, though some banks process weekend deposits. If you have a prepaid card instead of direct deposit, it could take 2-3 business days. Keep in mind that the first payment often takes longer than subsequent ones. Did you set up direct deposit when you initially filed your claim?

Yes I did set up direct deposit right at the beginning. My bank usually processes deposits pretty quickly so keeping my fingers crossed! Do you know if holidays affect the processing time? Monday is a holiday so now I'm worried it might not come until Tuesday...

When mine finally changed from pending to paid last month, the money showed up in my account the next morning! But I bank with BECU and they seem to process things faster than some other banks. If Monday is a banking holiday, you might be looking at Tuesday unfortunately. The ESD system is so frustrating - why does it take them 9 WEEKS to process a simple claim?? They really don't understand how crucial this money is for people trying to pay bills on time. Did they give you any explanation for why it was pending for so long?

No explanation at all! That's what drove me crazy - just 'pending' with no details about why or what was happening. I tried calling ESD at least 25 times over those 9 weeks but kept getting the 'high call volume' message and getting disconnected. Guess I'll just have to talk to my landlord about another possible delay... ugh.

If you're having trouble reaching ESD agents by phone (which I definitely did too), I recently found a service called Claimyr that helped me actually get through to someone at ESD. It basically holds your place in line so you don't have to keep redialing constantly. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a demo video that explains how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. I was skeptical at first but it actually got me through to an agent who could explain why my payments were delayed and got them processed faster. Might be worth checking out if you have more questions about your deposit timing or need help with future weeks.

Thanks! I'll check that out if I don't see the money by Tuesday. Anything is better than the constant busy signals and disconnections.

THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO MAKE YOU GIVE UP!!!! I've been through this 3 TIMES in the past 2 years and it's ALWAYS the same story. They make it impossible to reach anyone, leave you hanging for MONTHS, then suddenly pay you with ZERO explanation for the delay. And ESD will NEVER apologize for making you late on bills or having to borrow money while waiting. The agents don't care because it's not THEIR rent money on the line. Even when you finally get paid, WATCH YOUR ACCOUNT because they might randomly decide you have an "overpayment" 6 months from now and demand it all back!!!!

While I understand your frustration, not all experiences are this negative. There are plenty of dedicated ESD employees trying their best with limited resources. The system definitely has flaws that need fixing, but the delays are often due to the verification processes required by law to prevent fraud, not because agents don't care.

My cousin had the same thing happen in January - took like 8 weeks to get approved and then about 2 days for the money to show up. He says make sure to keep filing your weekly claims while waiting for the money tho! Sometimes people think they dont need to do the weekly thing while waiting for the first payment but you still gotta do it.

Yes I've been religiously filing every week! Haven't missed a single one. Just hoping all those weeks come through at once since they're all showing 'paid' now.

Just to follow up on your holiday question - yes, if Monday is a bank holiday (like Memorial Day, Labor Day, etc.), then deposits won't process until Tuesday at the earliest. For future reference, once your claim is established, payments typically process much faster. Your weekly claims filed on Sunday through Wednesday are usually processed within 48 hours, while claims filed Thursday through Saturday might not process until the following Monday or Tuesday. Have you been making sure to complete your three job search activities each week?

Thanks for the info! And yes, I've been doing all my job search activities and documenting everything carefully. I've actually got a promising interview on Wednesday so hopefully I won't need to rely on unemployment much longer. Just need to get through this month with rent and bills.

Just wanted to check back - did your payment ever come through? I'm in a similar position now and wondering if I should expect it before or after the holiday.

IT FINALLY CAME THROUGH THIS MORNING! All 9 weeks at once! I literally cried when I saw the notification. Now I can pay my rent and utilities without having to borrow more money. Such a relief.
