ESD appeal won but deposit delay - normal wait times for payment after 'paid' status?

Finally won my appeal after 8 weeks of fighting with ESD over a quit with good cause (toxic work environment + harassment). My eServices account updated yesterday to show 'paid' status for all my backpay weeks (around $6,200 total), but nothing has hit my bank account yet. I'm getting nervous since rent is due in 4 days. For anyone who's been through the appeals process before - how long did it take to actually receive your funds after your account showed 'paid'? Should I be worried or is this normal? Do weekends delay the process?

Congrats on winning your appeal! In my experience, it typically takes 2-3 business days after showing 'paid' in the system for the money to hit your bank account. I won my appeal back in February and it showed paid on a Tuesday, and the money was in my account Thursday morning. Direct deposit is pretty quick, but if you're getting it on a debit card it might take an extra day. Don't worry too much yet!

Thanks! That's reassuring. Yeah I'm set up for direct deposit, so hopefully it shows up soon. Just nervous since it's a big chunk of money and I've been struggling without income during this whole appeal process.

mine took like 5 days after it said paid... but that was during holiday weekend so maybe that made it slower. congrats on winning ur appeal!!! such a good feeling right??

Thank you! Yeah, HUGE relief. I was about ready to sell my car to make rent. 5 days isn't terrible, I can probably work with that timing.

The timing varies but here's what typically happens: 1. Status changes to "paid" in eServices (this means ESD has processed the payment) 2. ACH transfer is initiated to your bank (usually same day or next business day) 3. Bank processes deposit (1-3 business days depending on your bank) Weekends do delay things since banking systems don't process ACH transfers on weekends. If your status changed to paid on Friday, you might not see the deposit until Tuesday or Wednesday of the following week. If it's been more than 4 business days since the paid status appeared, I'd recommend trying to reach ESD to confirm everything is proceeding normally. Keep in mind they should be able to see if the payment has been sent even if it hasn't hit your account yet.

This is really helpful, thank you! It changed to paid on Monday, so maybe I'll see it tomorrow (Wednesday). I'll give it until Friday before I panic and try to contact them.

I went through this exact situation last month. My account showed "paid" for about $5,800 in backpay from my appeal win, but it took exactly 3 business days to hit my bank account. The status changed on a Wednesday and the money was there Monday morning. One thing to check - make sure your direct deposit info is correct in your eServices account. Sometimes people have old bank accounts still listed. Also, if you do need to call ESD to check on the status (which I did because I was nervous too!), I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an agent in about 20 minutes instead of spending hours trying to call myself. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 It was worth it to get confirmation that the money was actually sent and just working through the banking system.

Thanks for the tip about checking my direct deposit info - just double-checked and it's correct. I might check out that Claimyr service if I don't see the deposit by Friday. Did they tell you anything useful when you got through to them?

Yes, they confirmed the exact date the payment was sent to my bank and reassured me it was just bank processing time. They could also see that it was sent to the correct account. Gave me peace of mind instead of just wondering what was happening.

I had a horrible time with my appeal. Won it but then had MORE problems! The system showed paid but then it went back to pending again for TWO MORE WEEKS! Had to call ESD like 50 times. Turns out there was some flag on my account that the appeal judge didn't fully remove. Just prepare yourself that something else could go wrong. ESD is so incompetent sometimes!!!

That's definitely not the typical experience. While there can be occasional hiccups in the system, most appeal payments process normally once they show as "paid" in the system. Let's not unnecessarily worry the OP when their situation appears to be proceeding normally so far.

Just saying what happened to ME. Sorry for trying to help. 🙄 OP should be prepared for anything with these people.

I'm actually currently going through the appeal process myself for a similar situation (hostile work environment). Could I ask what kind of documentation you provided that helped you win your case? I'm trying to gather evidence for my hearing next month and feeling a bit overwhelmed.

Sure! The key things that helped me win were: 1) Emails documenting incidents of harassment that I had reported to HR, 2) A timeline with specific dates/incidents, 3) Medical notes from my doctor about stress-related symptoms, and 4) Testimony from a former coworker who witnessed some incidents. I also practiced explaining my case clearly and concisely before the hearing. Happy to chat more about it if you want to message me directly.

Thank you so much! That's incredibly helpful. I have some email documentation but hadn't thought about the medical angle. Really appreciate the advice!

Update: YES! The money just hit my account this morning - so it took exactly 3 business days from when the status changed to paid. Such a relief! Hang in there, yours should arrive soon too!

For anyone reading this thread in the future: the standard processing time for ESD payments after they show as "paid" in the system is 2-4 business days for direct deposit. If it's been longer than that, first verify your banking information is correct in your eServices account, then contact ESD if necessary. Also, be aware that large backpay amounts from appeals are sometimes flagged for additional verification as a fraud prevention measure, which can add 1-2 extra days to the process.
