ESD direct deposit delay this week - holiday week impact?

Has anyone received their unemployment payment this week yet? It's Thursday already and my direct deposit still hasn't shown up in my account. My weekly claim was approved on Sunday night as usual (got the confirmation email), but nothing in my bank account yet. I'm starting to worry since I've got rent due tomorrow. I know it's a holiday week, but I thought that would only delay things by one day? Getting nervous because I've never had it take this long before. Are bank holidays supposed to affect ESD payment schedules this much?

Thanks for letting me know I'm not the only one! Makes me feel a little better. Has this happened before with other holidays?

This happens EVERY holiday week with ESD! It's infuriating how they never clearly communicate these delays. The website always says 'payments typically arrive 2-3 business days after approval' but doesn't factor in holidays or update that info when there are known delays. I've been on UI three times over the years and it's the same story every time there's a holiday. They should at least put a banner notification on the eServices dashboard!

yeah they could at least warn ppl. some of us count on that $ being there on a specific day

The delay is definitely due to the holiday. Banks don't process ACH transfers on federal holidays, and ESD relies on the ACH system for direct deposits. Here's the normal timeline: 1. You file your weekly claim (Sunday/Monday) 2. ESD processes and approves it (1-2 days) 3. ESD initiates the bank transfer (1 day) 4. ACH system processes the transfer (1-2 business days) With the holiday, step 4 gets delayed. Most people should see their deposits tomorrow or Saturday at the latest. If you don't receive it by Monday, then you should contact ESD as there might be a different issue with your claim.

Thank you for breaking it down like that! That makes sense - I didn't realize the whole ACH system would be affected. I'll wait until Monday before panicking then.

Just got mine about an hour ago! Check your accounts, might be coming through now. Mine is usually Wednesday mornings too but came through Thursday afternoon this time.

Just checked and still nothing for me :( Maybe different banks process at different speeds? I'm with Chase if that matters.

If you're worried about your claim status, you can always call ESD directly to confirm everything is still on track. I had a similar issue last President's Day weekend and was freaking out, but it was just the normal holiday delay. When I finally got through to an agent, they confirmed my payment was in the system and just delayed in processing. After struggling with busy signals for hours, I found a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get through to an ESD agent in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. Solved my anxiety immediately when the agent confirmed my payment was already sent but just slow to process because of the holiday.

Thanks for the tip! If it doesn't come through by tomorrow afternoon I might need that. I've tried calling ESD directly before and it's practically impossible to get through.

For future reference, I always plan for a 1-2 day delay on any holiday week. ESD doesn't do a great job communicating this, but after being on unemployment for a few months I've learned to budget accordingly. The worst delays tend to be around major holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas - those can sometimes push payments out by 3-4 days. I recommend keeping a small emergency buffer if possible for these situations. And definitely file your weekly claim as early as possible on Sunday to get the process started sooner.

That's great advice, thank you. I just started unemployment last month so I'm still learning all the quirks of the system. Will definitely plan better for future holiday weeks!

Is your claim in adjudication or regular UI status? That can affect timing too. My sister's payments are always delayed by at least an extra day when there's some adjudication item pending, even a minor one. Might be worth checking if there's anything else going on with your claim besides just the holiday timing.

Mine's regular UI - no adjudication or issues showing. My payment actually just came through! But that's good to know about adjudication potentially causing extra delays.
