Appeal reversal - How long for ESD to pay 10 weeks of backpay after disqualification overturned?

Just got some amazing news and hoping someone can tell me what to expect next! After being laid off from my warehouse supervisor position in January, ESD disqualified me saying I was fired for misconduct (NOT true - it was clearly a layoff due to department restructuring). I appealed immediately and finally had my hearing with the Administrative Law Judge yesterday morning. I checked eServices just now and my claim status shows 'REVERSED'!! I'm beyond relieved, but also stressed about finances since I've gone 10 weeks without any benefits. Does anyone know how quickly ESD typically processes backpay after a successful appeal? Will I get all 10 weeks at once or will they trickle in? Any experiences would be super helpful as I'm trying to figure out when I can catch up on bills!

Congrats on winning your appeal! When my disqualification was reversed last year, I received all my backpay within 5 business days of the status changing to 'reversed'. Make sure you've submitted all your weekly claims for those 10 weeks - they won't automatically pay for weeks you didn't claim, even if you were eligible for those weeks now that the disqualification is reversed. If you missed filing any weekly claims during that period, contact ESD immediately to request backdated weekly claim forms.

Thank you so much! Yes, I've been diligently filing every week even though I was disqualified (the adjudicator told me to keep doing this). That's reassuring to hear it might come through within a week. I've been waiting so long already!

3 weeks?? Oh man, I was hoping it would be faster than that. Did you have to do anything to push it along?

The timing varies depending on current ESD workload. Typically you'll see the payments process within 1-3 weeks. If it's been overturned at the ALJ level, you shouldn't need to do anything else - ESD will automatically process the payments for any weeks you've already filed. You should receive all weeks at once, not incrementally. If you don't see movement on your claim within 10 business days, then I'd recommend contacting ESD to inquire about the status. Sometimes there can be additional verification steps needed before they release funds.

I'm in the exact same situation! My disqualification was reversed 2 weeks ago after being accused of quitting without good cause (I actually had to relocate due to my spouse's job transfer). It's been 14 days and still no payment. I've called like 20+ times and can't get through to anyone at ESD to ask what's happening. So frustrating!!! Let me know if yours comes through and I'll do the same.

Have you guys tried Claimyr? I was in the same boat last month - couldn't get through to ESD at all. Used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) and they got me connected to an actual ESD agent in about 25 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. Totally worth it because the agent was able to tell me exactly what was holding up my payment and fixed it while I was on the phone.

Omg thank you!! I'll check it out. At this point I'd try anything to get some answers. Did you actually talk to a real person who could help?

Yeah, they connected me directly to an ESD agent who could see my whole claim history and actually fixed the issue. Made all the difference after weeks of frustration.

Backpay processing time is so unpredictable with ESD. After my disqualification was reversed, I watched my eServices account like a hawk! The status changed to 'benefits paid' overnight, but it took another 2 days for the money to show up in my bank account. This was just last month. One tip: check if your payment method is set to direct deposit or debit card. Direct deposit is usually faster. Also, sometimes the payments show up under the 'Payment History' tab before they hit your account.

That's really helpful! I do have direct deposit set up, and I've been checking the payment history tab constantly. Nothing there yet, but it's only been one day since the reversal. Fingers crossed it moves as quickly as yours did!

The whole system is BROKEN!!! I won my appeal 4 months ago and only got paid after threatening to contact my state representative!!! Don't hold your breath waiting for ESD to do the right thing - they'll drag their feet as long as possible. CALL THEM EVERY SINGLE DAY until you get paid what you're owed!!!!

While I understand your frustration, 4 months is definitely not typical. Most reversed disqualifications are processed within 1-3 weeks. If someone is experiencing a delay beyond 4 weeks, they should request to speak with a supervisor or claims specialist as there may be a specific issue with their claim that needs attention.

Just wondering, did your status on eServices change from "disqualified" straight to "reversed" or were there any steps in between? My appeal hearing is next week and I'm trying to figure out what to expect on my account after. The waiting and uncertainty is driving me crazy!

It went straight from "disqualified" to "reversed" with no steps in between. The change happened overnight after my hearing. Good luck with your appeal! The waiting is definitely the hardest part.

Just wanted to follow up - any update on whether your backpay came through yet? This information could be really helpful for others in similar situations.

Yes! The money actually came through yesterday - so it was exactly 6 business days from when the status changed to reversed. All 10 weeks paid at once via direct deposit. Such a relief! Thanks everyone for the advice and support.
