Just wanted to add one more tip that helped me: I kept a detailed log of every single phone call with ESD, including the date, time, name of the person I spoke with, and what they told me. This turned out to be crucial evidence because I could point to specific instances where I received conflicting information from different ESD representatives. The OAH judge seemed particularly interested in this documentation.
For your specific situation, I'd recommend you clearly document your financial hardship when communicating with ESD. Washington has a process for expediting claims where there's a risk of eviction or utility disconnection. When contacting them (through any method), explicitly state: 1. The exact number of days your claim has been pending 2. That you're at risk of eviction/utility disconnection 3. Any specific deadlines for payments you're facing Also, while waiting for resolution, make sure you continue filing your weekly claims without interruption. Missing even one weekly certification can further delay your payments once the claim is approved.
Just want to add a quick update on my earlier comment - when contacting your state rep, email works better than calling in my experience. I got an auto-reply with a case number and then a real response within 48 hours. They asked for my claim ID and contact info, then reached out to their ESD liaison directly. My claim was resolved about 5 days later. Much faster than the governor's office route!
Update: I took several of your suggestions and have progress to report! I visited my local WorkSource office yesterday and they confirmed my claim is in adjudication due to "employment separation issues" - apparently my employer didn't respond to ESD's initial inquiry. The WorkSource staff couldn't fix it directly, but at least now I know what's happening. I also reached out to my state representative's office by email. Not giving up on trying to reach ESD directly. Thank you all for the help and suggestions!
That's great progress! Now that you know it's an employer response issue, you can be more specific when you do reach an ESD agent. Make sure to keep filing your weekly claims while this gets sorted out. The good news is that once your adjudication is complete (assuming it's decided in your favor), you'll receive all back benefits for the weeks you've claimed. One additional tip: If you can locate any documentation about your separation (layoff notice, emails, etc.), have those ready to provide if asked. This can sometimes speed up the adjudication process.

•Great to hear! This is exactly what I'd expect. The processing tag is really just for ESD's internal tracking purposes. Filing method doesn't affect payment timing.
