TWC unemployment debit card delay - need faster payment alternatives?
So frustrating! I qualified for unemployment benefits and TWC told me my debit card was requested on November 20th, but because of the Thanksgiving holiday they said it could be another 3-5 days before I receive it. I'm getting worried because I have bills coming due next week. Has anyone else experienced delays with their TWC debit card? More importantly, does anyone know if I can get them to transfer my funds to my personal bank account or another card I already have? I really need access to this money ASAP and waiting another week isn't going to work for me. Any advice would be super appreciated!

Yes, you can change your payment method from the ReliaCard to direct deposit! Login to your TWC account, go to Payment Option, and select Direct Deposit. You'll need your bank account number and routing number. The change usually takes 5-7 business days to process, so it might not be faster for your current payment, but all future payments would go directly to your bank account.

•Thank you! I'll set that up for future payments at least. Do you know if there's any way to get THIS payment transferred? The one that's already been processed to the card I haven't received yet?

•TWO WEEKS?!! That's ridiculous! How are people supposed to pay their bills?? The whole point of unemployment is to help when you have no income! Makes me so ANGRY how they act like we can just wait forever for OUR MONEY.

Unfortunately, once the payment has been issued to the ReliaCard, TWC cannot redirect that specific payment to a different account. Your best option is to set up direct deposit for future payments as mentioned above. For your current situation, you have two options: 1. Continue waiting for the card to arrive 2. Contact U.S. Bank ReliaCard customer service directly at 1-800-657-6343 to ask if they can expedite your card delivery (sometimes they can for a fee) If you absolutely need funds now, you might want to call TWC to explain your situation. In rare hardship cases, they might be able to help, though this isn't guaranteed.

I was in the exact same boat a few weeks ago! Kept trying to call TWC to see if they could help but could never get through - busy signals for DAYS. I finally found this service called Claimyr that got me connected to a TWC agent in about 20 minutes instead of spending hours redialing. The agent couldn't transfer the current payment but was able to expedite my direct deposit setup for future payments AND gave me info to contact US Bank directly about rushing my card. Saved me a ton of stress! Check out their demo at https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U?si=kNxmh025COIlIzKh or their website claimyr.com if you want to talk to a real person at TWC without the endless busy signals.

•Thank you! I've been trying to call all morning with no luck. I'll look into this. Did you have to pay anything for the service?

•Yes, there is a fee, but for me it was worth it since I was getting nowhere on my own. After several days of not being able to reach anyone, I got through in minutes. Just to be clear - they don't handle your TWC issues, they just connect you with an actual TWC agent who can help.

the same thing happened to me but with the twist that they mailed my card to my old address even tho i updated it in the system!!! make sure ur address is correct in both TWC and US Bank systems. sometimes they dont match up and thats another headache

•Oh no! I didn't even think about that. I moved about 8 months ago but I'm pretty sure my address is updated in the TWC system. How do I check if US Bank has the right address?

This is EXACTLY why the Texas unemployment system is such a JOKE! They hold OUR MONEY hostage with these ridiculous debit cards that take FOREVER to arrive instead of just giving us a direct deposit option from the beginning!! My sister had to wait almost THREE WEEKS for her card earlier this year because it got "lost in the mail" - meanwhile her rent was late and she got charged late fees. Did TWC care? NOPE!!! The whole system is designed to make it as difficult as possible!

•To be fair, TWC does offer direct deposit as the default option when you first set up your claim. Many people don't have their banking information handy when filing initially, so they default to the ReliaCard. But I agree the card shipping process is unnecessarily slow, especially since they know people are waiting for funds to cover essential expenses.

One additional tip - once you do receive your ReliaCard, you can transfer the funds from the card to your bank account through the ReliaCard mobile app or website. You'll need to set up the bank account as an external transfer option. The transfer typically takes 1-3 business days. This won't help with your immediate need, but good to know for when the card arrives.

•u can also withdraw cash from atm but they have limits like $500 per day i think

Isabella Oliveira
•That's correct. There's a daily ATM withdrawal limit (typically $500), but you can also make purchases directly with the card. Just remember that not all ATMs are free - U.S. Bank ATMs won't charge a fee, but others might. The ReliaCard website has a locator for fee-free ATMs.

my freind said if u call us bank and tell them its a emergency they might rush the card to u for a fee but it costs like $15 extra i think

•Thanks for the tip! $15 would be totally worth it at this point. I'll definitely ask about that when I call them.

also dont forget u need to activate the card as soon as u get it! my husband got his card and thought it was working but he never called the activation number so his card got declined at the gas station and it was super embarrassing

•Good reminder! The activation instructions come with the card, and you'll need to create a PIN during activation. Also make sure to sign the back of the card immediately.

Update: I was able to get through to US Bank ReliaCard directly. They confirmed my card was mailed on the 21st and said they can't expedite it once it's already in the mail. BUT they did verify my current address is correct in their system, so hopefully it will arrive in the next few days. I also setup direct deposit on my TWC account for future payments. Thank you everyone for your help and suggestions!

•Glad you were able to confirm everything is on track! Having direct deposit set up for future payments will make things much easier going forward. Hope your card arrives soon.

I'm glad you were able to get some answers and set up direct deposit for the future! Just wanted to add that if your card doesn't arrive by early next week, you can also file a claim with USPS for a missing/delayed mail piece. Sometimes that helps track down where it might be stuck in the system. I had to do that once with an important document and it actually helped locate it at a sorting facility. Also, keep checking your mailbox daily - sometimes these cards come in plain envelopes that don't look official, so they're easy to miss among regular mail. Hope it shows up soon!

•That's a really good point about the plain envelopes! I almost threw away what I thought was junk mail last month and it turned out to be an important document. I'll definitely be extra careful checking everything that comes in. The USPS tracking idea is smart too - I didn't know you could file a claim for delayed mail. Thanks for the additional tips!

Just wanted to share my recent experience since I see you got some good advice here! I went through the exact same thing about 6 weeks ago - my ReliaCard took forever and I was stressing about rent. What really helped me was calling U.S. Bank early in the morning (like right when they open at 7am) - I got through much faster than calling during busy hours. They couldn't expedite my card either, but the rep was really helpful and walked me through setting up text alerts so I'd know the moment my card was activated and ready to use. Also, once I did get it, I immediately set up the mobile app and linked my regular bank account for transfers. Now with direct deposit set up like you did, future payments go straight to my bank. Hang in there - I know how frustrating it is when you need that money NOW, but it sounds like you're doing all the right things to get it sorted out!

•Thanks for sharing your experience! The tip about calling early in the morning is really smart - I bet that makes a huge difference in wait times. I'm definitely going to set up those text alerts once my card arrives, that sounds super useful. It's reassuring to hear from someone who went through the same thing and got it all sorted out. I'm trying to stay patient but it's tough when bills are due, you know? At least knowing I have direct deposit set up for future payments gives me some peace of mind that I won't have to deal with this waiting game again.

I had a similar experience last year and it was so stressful! One thing that helped me while waiting for my card was reaching out to local food banks and community assistance programs. Many churches and nonprofit organizations have emergency assistance funds that can help with utilities or other urgent bills while you're waiting for your unemployment funds. Also, some utility companies have hardship programs where they'll give you an extension if you explain you're waiting for unemployment benefits. It doesn't solve the card delay problem, but it might help bridge the gap until your money arrives. You can search for "emergency assistance [your city name]" online to find local resources. Hope your card shows up soon!

•That's really thoughtful advice! I hadn't thought about reaching out to local community resources while waiting. It's good to know there are options out there for people in these kinds of situations. I'm fortunate that I can probably make it through the next few days, but I'll definitely keep those resources in mind for the future or pass them along to others who might need them. It's crazy that we even have to think about emergency assistance just because a debit card is taking forever to arrive, but I appreciate you sharing those tips!

I'm going through this exact same situation right now! My card was supposed to be mailed out last Friday and I'm still waiting. It's so frustrating when you have bills piling up and your money is just sitting there inaccessible. I called US Bank yesterday and they confirmed it was sent but couldn't give me a tracking number or expedite it. The worst part is not knowing if it got lost in the mail or is just taking forever. I'm definitely going to set up direct deposit like others suggested, but that doesn't help with the current payment. Has anyone had success with filing a complaint with TWC about these delays? It seems like this is a widespread problem that shouldn't be happening.

•I totally feel your frustration! I'm dealing with the same waiting game right now. From what I've read in this thread, it seems like filing complaints with TWC about card delays doesn't really speed things up unfortunately - the issue appears to be more on the US Bank/mailing side than TWC itself. But it might still be worth documenting if enough people complain. Have you tried calling US Bank early in the morning like someone suggested above? I'm planning to try that tomorrow to see if I can get any better info about delivery timeframes. Also, I saw someone mention that the cards sometimes come in plain envelopes that look like junk mail - maybe double check that you haven't accidentally overlooked it? I know I almost threw away something important recently thinking it was spam mail. Fingers crossed both our cards show up soon!

I went through this same nightmare about 3 months ago and it's absolutely maddening! What worked for me was calling US Bank ReliaCard multiple times throughout the day - I know it sounds crazy but different reps sometimes have different capabilities or willingness to help. One rep finally admitted they could put a "rush request" on my account even though my card had already been mailed, which somehow helped it arrive 2 days later instead of the full week they originally quoted. Also, if you have any friends or family who could spot you money for immediate bills, you could have them Venmo/Zelle you cash and then pay them back once your card arrives and you can access your funds. I had to swallow my pride and ask my brother for help, but it saved me from late fees on my car payment. The whole system is broken and puts people in impossible situations, but don't give up on calling US Bank - sometimes persistence pays off with getting a more helpful representative!

•That's really smart advice about calling multiple times to get different reps! I never thought about that but it makes total sense - some people are just more willing to go the extra mile to help. The "rush request" thing is interesting too, even after it's already mailed. I'm definitely going to try that approach tomorrow. And you're absolutely right about swallowing pride - I've been hesitant to ask family for help but at this point the late fees would probably cost more than my embarrassment is worth. Thanks for sharing what actually worked for you, it gives me hope that there might be a way to speed this up!
