< Back to Texas Unemployment

TWC promised my 4 weeks of backpay was fixed but still NOTHING on my card 48 hours later

So beyond frustrated with this whole mess! I was eligible for 4 weeks of unemployment payments ($1,842 total) that never showed up on my TWC debit card. Called and waited HOURS to speak with someone last month. The first rep said it was just a 'system glitch' and assured me they fixed it and money would be on my card in 2-3 business days. Nothing happened. Called again last week, waited another 2+ hours. This rep said the FIRST rep didn't actually submit the correction properly but promised she would fix it for real this time! Said I'd 100% see the money within 48 hours. Well, it's been 48+ hours and my card still shows ZERO balance. Called again today and this third rep had the nerve to tell me that there was some 'payment system update' that caused delays and that the SECOND rep should have known about it! Each one keeps blaming the previous one! I have bills due in 3 days. I've been counting on this money for over a month now. My determination letter clearly shows I'm eligible. My payment request history shows 'processed' for all 4 weeks. WHY IS THERE NO MONEY??? Has anyone dealt with this kind of runaround? What finally worked to get your backpay actually deposited?

I had a similar issue last year with 3 weeks of missing payments. What finally worked for me was specifically asking for a 'payment trace' when I called. You need to use those exact words - a payment trace will show exactly where your money is stuck in their system. Also ask them to escalate to a supervisor who can actually push the payment through manually. Don't let them transfer you to another regular agent. The regular agents often don't have the system access to actually fix payment issues.

Thank you so much for this! I've never heard of a 'payment trace' before. Did they do it while you were on the phone or did you have to wait? And how long after the trace did your money finally show up?

Check if your bank account information or debit card details are correct in the TWC system. Sometimes the payment shows as 'processed' on their end but it's trying to go to an expired card or wrong account number. You can verify this in your TWC account under Payment Option. I'd also recommend checking if your card is still active - the TWC debit cards expire every 2-3 years and they don't always notify you when they're sending a new one.

I double-checked and my card is definitely active (just used it last week for something else) and all the account info is correct. The weird thing is I received my first two weeks of payments fine, it's just these last 4 weeks that vanished into thin air.

Have you tried using the Claimyr service? It saved me SO MUCH TIME when I had a similar payment issue. Instead of waiting on hold for hours, they got me connected to a TWC agent in about 20 minutes. The agent was able to see that my payments were stuck in a 'pending verification' status even though the website showed 'processed'. They fixed it while I was on the phone. You can check them out at claimyr.com - they have a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U?si=kNxmh025COIlIzKh

THE SAME THING IS HAPPENING TO ME RIGHT NOW!!! I'm owed 5 weeks worth of payments. FIVE! And every time I call they say it's fixed but nothing ever shows up. This is absolutely criminal. My landlord doesn't care about TWC's 'system updates' - he just wants his rent!!! 😡😡😡

Unfortunately this is happening to a lot of people right now. TWC is claiming it's due to their new payment processing system, but they've been saying that for months. What's really happening is they're understaffed and the experienced agents who actually know how to fix payment issues keep quitting. I worked as a contractor for TWC until early 2025 and it's a total mess internally right now. The people answering phones often have NO idea how to actually fix payment issues and just tell you what you want to hear to get you off the phone.

Here's what you NEED to do immediately: 1. File a formal complaint through the TWC Ombudsman office. Email Ombudsman@twc.texas.gov with your claim ID, contact info, and a timeline of everything that's happened. 2. Contact your state representative's office. They can often get TWC to respond much faster through legislative channels. 3. When you call again, immediately ask to speak to a supervisor or claims examiner. Regular phone agents cannot process manual payments. 4. Request a 'Payment Investigation' - this is different from a regular inquiry and forces them to document the issue and resolve it. The squeaky wheel gets the grease with TWC. Be persistent but professional.

This is incredibly helpful, thank you! I just emailed the Ombudsman office with all my details. I'll also try reaching out to my state rep tomorrow. I had no idea they could help with TWC issues but at this point I'm willing to try anything.

anybody else notice that TWC ALWAYS has "system issues" whenever they owe u money lol but the system works PERFECTLY fine when they think u owe THEM money for overpayment 🙄

FACTS!!! They sent me an overpayment notice in like 2 days after I reported some part-time hours but can't get my regular payments right for 6+ weeks! Make it make sense!

When you call TWC, make sure you have these specific details ready: 1. The exact 4 weeks you're missing payments for (dates) 2. Your claim ID number 3. The names of the previous agents you spoke with (if you wrote them down) 4. The processing status shown on your payment request history Also, check your correspondence inbox on the TWC portal. Sometimes they send a notice explaining why a payment is held up, but the notice doesn't generate an email or text alert. I've seen many cases where people were missing payments because of an unresolved issue they didn't even know about.

I've checked my correspondence inbox multiple times and there's nothing there about why payments are held up. Just the original determination letter approving my benefits and some general newsletters. The payment request history just shows "processed" for all weeks, which makes this even more confusing! I'll definitely have all those details ready when I call again tomorrow.

After you've been approved for benefits and your payment requests show as processed, there are 3 common reasons why money still doesn't show up on your card: 1. Payment hold due to identity verification issues (even if you already completed ID.me) 2. Bank routing/account verification problems 3. A system flag for potential fraud that nobody told you about The most effective solution is to request a supervisor who specializes in payment issues. Regular agents aren't trained to resolve these specific problems. The supervisor can see flags on your account that regular agents can't even access in the system. Also worth noting that TWC did just complete a major system update in March 2025 that's causing widespread payment delays. They're not announcing this publicly but it's affecting thousands of claimants.

Thank you for this insight! So when I call and ask for a supervisor, should I mention one of these specific issues? Or just say I need a payment supervisor? I completed ID.me verification months ago when I first applied, so I'm shocked if that's suddenly an issue now after I already received some payments.
