TWC overpayment check processing time - anyone know how long until it shows paid?
Finally bit the bullet and sent a check to repay my TWC overpayment last week (they said I didn't report one week of part-time work correctly last year, resulting in a $760 overpayment). It's been 8 days and my overpayment balance online still shows the full amount. Does anyone know how long TWC typically takes to process check payments for overpayments? I'm getting nervous because I need this cleared up before I can apply for benefits again. Should I call them or is this normal processing time? I sent it regular mail with tracking and it was delivered 5 days ago.

In my experience, TWC takes about 10-14 business days to process check payments for overpayments. The system isn't exactly lightning fast! Make sure you kept that tracking information and maybe take a screenshot of the delivery confirmation. I'd recommend waiting until at least the 2-week mark before calling them.

•Thanks! I'll try to be patient then. I have the tracking number saved and took a photo of the check before I sent it too, just in case.

Wait is anyone else getting a BAD FEELING about this?? I sent TWC a check for my overpayment ($1,200) and they LOST IT. Then they added penalties because it was "late" even though I had proof I mailed it!!! Make sure you have EVERYTHING documented!!!

•YES but it took FOREVER!! Had to talk to 3 different supervisors and submit the same proof multiple times!! The whole system is designed to frustrate you until you give up!!!!

When I had this problem last year it took them exactly 12 business days to process my check and update my account. It's frustrating that there's no immediate confirmation when they receive it. Make sure to keep checking your balance online every day or so.

•12 business days sounds like forever when you're worried about it! But glad to hear it did eventually process for you. I'll keep checking daily.

I'm dealing with something similar right now. Been trying to call TWC every day to confirm they received my payment but can't get through at all - just busy signals or getting disconnected after waiting an hour. The stress is unreal.

•I was in the same boat trying to reach TWC about my overpayment last month. I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through - they have a service that holds your place in line and calls you back when a TWC agent is available. Saved me hours of redial frustration. You can see how it works at https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U?si=kNxmh025COIlIzKh. Totally worth it for the peace of mind knowing your payment was actually received.

The official processing time according to TWC guidelines is 7-10 business days for check payments to be processed and applied to your account. However, in practice, I've seen it take up to 15 business days (3 weeks) depending on mail routing, staffing levels, and payment processing backlogs. As long as you have your tracking confirmation showing TWC received it, you're protected against any penalties for late payment. If it goes beyond 15 business days, I would suggest contacting them directly to ensure your payment wasn't misapplied to another account or lost in their internal mail system.

•That's really helpful context, thank you. I'll mark my calendar for the 15 business day mark and follow up then if it's not processed. Good to know about the potential for it being misapplied - wouldn't have thought of that.

One more thing to consider - make sure your check included your claim ID number on the memo line. If you didn't include that, it can take them even longer to process because they have to manually match it to your account. Also, did you mail it to the correct address? The overpayment address is different from the regular TWC address.

•Oh shoot, I put my name and SSN last 4 on the memo line but not my actual claim ID. I did double-check the address though - sent it to the Collections department address listed on my overpayment notice. Do you think the missing claim ID will cause major delays?

•It might cause a small delay, but having your SSN last 4 should help them identify your account. The main issue would be if you sent it to the wrong department entirely. Since you sent it to Collections, you should be okay. Just might add a few days to the processing time.

My husband had an overpayment last year too. His check took about 3 weeks to process actually. Something to keep in mind is that their online system doesn't always update immediately even when they do process the payment. We had a similar panic moment! Maybe check if they offer any payment methods besides check for future reference - I think direct payments through their portal might process faster.

ALSO did you know that TWC sometimes applies overpayments to TAX REFUNDS??? My cousin didn't pay his overpayment and they just took it out of his tax refund last year!!! They don't even tell you they're doing it!!!

•This is actually correct - TWC can and does use the Treasury Offset Program (TOP) to recover unpaid overpayments through tax refund interception. However, they are required to send multiple notices before doing this, and it generally only happens with overpayments that are significantly delinquent (usually 90+ days past due). It's one of several collection methods they can use for unresolved overpayments, which is why it's always best to address them promptly as the original poster is doing.
