TWC listed wrong employer on my claim - now stuck in ID.me verification limbo

I'm completely baffled by what just happened with my TWC claim. I received a notification saying I needed to verify my identity through ID.me and would get a verification code BY MAIL (not electronically like everything else I've received). When I checked my claim status, it showed the weird message that I was "eligible for benefits but ineligible to receive them" - whatever that means! I called TWC to figure out what's going on and why this letter isn't coming electronically. The rep first told me I might still get an electronic notification after 10pm tonight. But when I pushed about my claim status, he put me on hold to check with my "employer" - and came back saying my employer claimed I never worked there! Here's the crazy part - when he told me the employer name, I had NEVER heard of that company! Somehow TWC has my entire claim filed under a company I've never worked for, despite me providing all my correct employment info when filing and even confirming my real employer's details on that follow-up phone call they required. Now I have to basically start this whole process over again. Has anyone else had TWC completely mix up their employer info? I'm worried this is going to delay my benefits for weeks while they sort this out.

This actually happens more often than you'd think. The TWC system sometimes pulls incorrect employer information from their database, especially if you've had multiple jobs or if another company has a similar name/tax ID. You need to request an employer correction ASAP. Call TWC again and specifically ask for an "employer correction request." Make sure you have proof of employment ready (paystubs, W-2, offer letter). The ID.me verification is likely triggered because the system flags your claim as potentially fraudulent when the employer information doesn't match their records. Once you get the employer corrected, you'll probably still need to complete ID.me verification, but your claim should move forward normally after that.

Thank you! I didn't know to specifically ask for an "employer correction request" - that's really helpful. I have all my paystubs and W-2s ready. Do you know how long the correction usually takes to process? I'm getting worried about bills piling up while this gets sorted out.

OMG this EXACT thing happened to me in January!! I was FURIOUS! TWC had me listed as working for some random restaurant chain I'd never even heard of when I actually worked at a software company. Took THREE WEEKS to get it fixed and every single person I talked to gave me different instructions. The whole system is broken and nobody there knows what they're doing. One rep told me I needed to upload documents in my portal, another said I had to mail them in (what century is this??), and a third said my former employer needed to contact them directly. Total nightmare.

You're dealing with two separate issues that are likely connected: 1. Incorrect employer - This happens when your employer reports your wages under a different company name (parent company, subsidiary, etc.) or if TWC's system matched you to the wrong record. You need to file an wage protest through your online account (not just by phone). Go to "Appeal/Protest" section and select "Wage Protest." 2. ID.me verification - This is standard for claims with discrepancies. You don't need to wait for the mailed code. You can go directly to ID.me/txworkforce and complete verification with your driver's license and social security number. Completely resolve the ID.me verification first, then focus on the employer correction. The wage protest can take 2-3 weeks to resolve, but having your identity verified will prevent additional delays.

This is incredibly helpful, thank you! I had no idea I could go directly to ID.me/txworkforce without waiting for that code. I'll do that right away. One question about the wage protest - if I file it online, should I also upload my pay stubs and W-2 as evidence?

lol welcome to dealing with twc... they had me down as working for my employer's parent company that's based in another state. took forever to fix and nobody could tell me why it happened in the first place. good luck!

Thanks... not looking forward to this process. Did you have to keep requesting payments while they were fixing it?

I've been trying to call TWC for 3 weeks about a similar issue (though mine was about missing wages, not wrong employer). It's IMPOSSIBLE to get through! I call right when they open at 8am and still get the "all representatives are busy" message. So frustrating.

Try using Claimyr.com to get through to TWC. It worked for me after trying for days to reach a real person. Their system holds your place in line and calls you when an agent is available. Saved me hours of frustration! They have a demo video at https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U?si=kNxmh025COIlIzKh that shows how it works. Worth it when you're dealing with something time-sensitive like incorrect employer info that's holding up your benefits.

One more critical point - when you're correcting employer information, make absolutely sure the TWC rep updates your "base period employers" correctly. The base period (first 4 of the last 5 completed calendar quarters before your claim) determines your benefit amount. If they only fix the most recent employer but not all base period employers, you could get a lower benefit amount than you deserve or even be denied. When you call, specifically ask them to verify ALL base period employers are correct, not just your last one.

Oh wow, I had no idea about the base period employers affecting the benefit amount. I worked for two different companies in the last 18 months, so I should make sure both are correctly listed. Thank you for this tip!

I didn't know there was a chat option! I'll try that too, thanks for the suggestion. Anything is better than waiting on hold forever.

After you get through to TWC and start the employer correction process, make sure you continue requesting payment every two weeks as scheduled. Many people make the mistake of stopping their payment requests while waiting for issues to be resolved. Even if you don't receive payments immediately due to the employer issue, you need to maintain your payment request schedule to receive back payments once it's resolved.

Thank you for this reminder! I would have probably stopped requesting payments thinking it wouldn't matter until the employer issue was fixed. Good to know I should keep doing this.

Watch out for the ID.me verification too - that system is a MESS! It kept rejecting my perfectly good driver's license photo because of "glare" that wasn't even there. I ended up having to do a video call with a "trusted referee" which took hours to get connected to. Just a heads up so you're prepared for that potential headache on top of the employer issue.
