TWC appeal hearing decision taking forever - standard wait time?

I had my unemployment appeal hearing with TWC exactly 2 weeks ago, and I'm still waiting to hear ANYTHING. The hearing seemed to go well (I think?), but when I log into my account there's no updates at all. My payment status is still listed as 'pending appeal decision.' I've been checking the portal every couple days but nothing has changed. How long does it typically take for them to make a decision after the hearing? Should I be calling someone about this or is two weeks a normal wait time? I'm getting really anxious because rent is due soon and I need to know if I'll be getting these benefits or not. Anyone been through this recently?

Same thing happened with me. Took almost 3 weeks to get decision after hearing. TWC is slow with everything 🙄

Thanks for sharing your experience. 3 weeks feels like forever when you're waiting on money! Did you do anything to speed it up or just wait it out?

The official timeframe for TWC to issue appeal decisions is 14-21 days, but they can sometimes take up to 30 days depending on their backlog and the complexity of your case. Your best bet is to continue checking your TWC account online and watching for mail. The decision will come as a written determination letter both in your correspondence inbox on the portal and through regular mail.\n\nDon't panic about the two-week mark - that's actually pretty normal. If you haven't received anything after 3 weeks, then it might be worth trying to contact them for a status update.

Thank you so much for the detailed info! That helps calm my nerves a bit. I'll try to be patient a little longer.

Does anyone know if they send the decision by email too or just regular mail?? I had my hearing 10 days ago and Im checking my email like crazy every hour but nothing!!! My landlord is already threatening eviction and I need to know if im getting paid or if I need to borrow money from family ugh this is so stressful

They don't typically send decisions by email - they'll post it to your TWC account correspondence inbox AND mail a physical copy. Make sure you're logging into your TWC account and checking the correspondence tab, not just your email. The online portal usually gets updated first before the physical mail arrives.

I went through an appeal hearing back in January and it was incredibly frustrating trying to get updates. After waiting for 2.5 weeks with no response, I finally got through to a TWC representative by using Claimyr (claimyr.com). They have a service that helps you bypass the hold times when calling TWC - basically they wait on hold for you then call you when a representative is available. Saved me hours of frustration. I watched their demo video (https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U?si=kNxmh025COIlIzKh) and was skeptical at first, but it actually worked great.\n\nThe TWC rep told me that my decision had already been made but was waiting in the queue to be processed and mailed. Two days after I called, the decision showed up in my correspondence inbox. Sometimes just checking on the status seems to move things along faster.

That's really helpful, I hadn't heard of that service before. I might try it if I don't hear anything by the end of this week. I've tried calling TWC directly before and it's always busy signals or disconnections after waiting forever.

To directly answer your question - TWC is supposed to issue appeal decisions within 14-21 days, but they're frequently running behind schedule. In my experience helping clients with appeals, around 70% get their decisions within 3 weeks, and most of the rest by 4 weeks. Very rarely do they take longer than that.\n\nOne important thing to know: Even after a decision is made, there's sometimes a delay before it shows up in your correspondence inbox on the TWC portal. And then another delay before benefit payments would resume if the appeal was decided in your favor. So if you win your appeal, don't expect money to show up immediately - you'll likely need to request payment for the eligible weeks once your claim is reactivated.\n\nIf you reach the 3-week mark with no decision, I'd recommend trying to contact them for a status update. Sometimes just inquiring can help move your case along.

This is good info. When I finally got my decision it took another week before I actually got paid even tho I won my appeal. So frustrating!!

WAIT SO EVEN IF U WIN THE APPEAL U DONT GET PAID RIGHT AWAY???? Are u kidding me!!!! I thought once they decide in ur favor they automatically send all the back pay! This is ridiculous!!

Unfortunately that's correct. Even after a favorable decision, you typically need to request payment for any eligible weeks, and the system has to process those requests. Back pay doesn't automatically deposit - the appeal just makes those weeks eligible for payment, but the payment process is separate. It's definitely frustrating, but knowing how the process works can help you set realistic expectations.

Congratulations on winning your appeal! Yes, you'll need to request payment for all eligible weeks. Log into your TWC account and look for the option to request payment for previous weeks. You should be able to submit payment requests for all the weeks that were in question during your appeal period. After you submit those requests, it typically takes 2-3 business days for the payments to process if direct deposit is set up (longer for debit card or paper checks).\n\nIf the system doesn't allow you to request payment for some reason, you might need to call TWC to have them manually release those weeks for payment. Good luck!

Congratulations on winning your appeal! That's such a relief after all that waiting. For requesting payment for the back weeks, you'll want to log into your TWC account and look for the "Request Payment" section. You should be able to see all the weeks that are now eligible for payment and request them individually. Make sure to request payment for ALL the weeks that were held up during the appeal process - sometimes people miss a week or two and then have to call to get it sorted out later. If you run into any issues with the system not letting you request certain weeks, that's when you'd need to call TWC to have them manually release those payments.

Congrats on winning your appeal! That's awesome news after all that stress and waiting. Just to add to what others have said - when you're requesting payment for those back weeks, make sure you have your work search activities documented for each week if Texas requires it (some appeal situations might have different requirements). Also, if you had any part-time work or other income during those weeks, make sure to report it accurately when you request payment. The last thing you want is another issue to delay your payments! Hope you get your money soon and can catch up on bills.

That's fantastic news, Keisha! Congratulations on winning your appeal - 17 days is right in that normal window everyone mentioned. It's such a huge relief when you finally get that decision letter, especially after all the stress of waiting and worrying about rent. Just to add to the great advice already given about requesting those back payments - when you log in to request payment for the eligible weeks, don't be surprised if the system seems a bit slow or glitchy at first. Sometimes after an appeal decision the system takes a day or two to fully update and show all the weeks you're eligible for. If you can't see all the weeks right away, try logging out and back in or waiting until the next day before calling TWC. Also make sure to check that your direct deposit info is still current in your account settings - you don't want any delays because of outdated banking information! Hope you get those payments processed quickly and can finally catch up on everything. Keep us posted on how it goes!
