How to check if TWC approved/denied my claim? Can't find status anywhere
I submitted my unemployment claim to TWC last week and honestly have no idea how to check if I was approved or denied. I've logged into my account but all I see is that my claim was received. There's no status update or anything showing if they've made a decision. I tried calling but just got the busy signal (of course). I'm getting anxious because rent is due soon and I need to know if I'm getting benefits. Do they mail something? Is there a specific section on the website I'm missing? How long does it typically take to find out if you're approved?

There are a few ways to check your TWC claim status: 1. Log into your TWC account and click on "Claim and Payment Status" - this should show if your claim is still pending, approved, or denied 2. Call Tele-Serv at 800-558-8321 and select option 2 to check claim status (automated system available 24/7) 3. Look for correspondence in your TWC inbox - they'll send a determination letter once they've processed your claim It usually takes 2-3 weeks for TWC to process a new claim, though it can be longer if there are issues they need to investigate. If your former employer contests your claim, that can add time too.

•Thank you! I checked under Claim and Payment Status but it just shows my claim was received. I'll try the Tele-Serv number tomorrow. Is there anything else I need to be doing while I wait? Should I be requesting payment even though I don't know if I'm approved?

they always send a letter in the mail with approval or denial. check your mailbox

•Not always true anymore. Most communication is through the online portal now. TWC has been moving to paperless for most claimants. You have to specifically request paper mail if you want physical letters. They'll send an email notification when there's a new correspondence in your inbox on the portal.

YES! Request payment on your designated filing day even if you haven't received an approval yet. This is super important! If you don't request payment when you're supposed to, you could lose those benefit weeks even if you're eventually approved. Your filing day is based on the last digit of your SSN: - SSN ending in 1, 3, 5, 7, 9: File on Monday - SSN ending in 2, 4, 6, 8, 0: File on Tuesday - Wednesday-Saturday: Anyone can file I learned this the hard way and missed out on two weeks of payments because I was waiting for an approval letter first. Don't make my mistake!

•Oh wow, I had no idea! My SSN ends in 8 so I guess that means tomorrow is my day. I'll definitely make sure to request payment. Do I just click on "Request Payment" on the website? Will it let me do that even though I don't know if I'm approved yet?

The TWC system is GARBAGE!!! I went through this EXACT same thing in January. Couldn't tell if I was approved or denied for THREE WEEKS while they "processed" my claim. Meanwhile bills were piling up and my landlord was threatening eviction. THEN they had the NERVE to deny me over some BS about my former employer claiming I was fired for misconduct (TOTAL LIE). Had to go through the whole appeal process. The entire unemployment system is designed to wear you down until you give up!!

I finally got through to TWC using Claimyr (claimyr.com). It connects you directly to a TWC agent without spending hours redialing. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U?si=kNxmh025COIlIzKh I was skeptical at first but it saved me so much frustration. The agent I spoke with was able to tell me exactly what was happening with my claim and what I needed to do next. Turned out there was an issue with my identity verification that I couldn't see online.

•That sounds really helpful! I've already spent hours trying to get through on the phone. How long did it take you to reach someone using that service?

•It took about 20 minutes total from signing up to talking to a TWC rep. Way better than the days I spent trying to get through on my own. The agent was able to see exactly what was holding up my claim.

Dont forget to do ur work search activities while waiting!!! You need 3 per week in Texas even if ur not approved yet!! They can deny u retroactively if u don't have them!!! Keep records of everything!!!!!

•This is important advice. You must complete and log your work search activities from the very beginning. TWC requires 3 work search activities per week for most claimants. Document everything - job applications, interviews, networking, creating profiles on job sites, etc. If you're approved, they'll verify you've been doing these activities when you request payment.

When I filed in March, I noticed the approval status was actually visible in a different place than I expected. Try going to your TWC account homepage, then click on "Claim and Payment Status" (as someone already mentioned), but then look for a tab that says "Claim Information" or "Determination Status" - sometimes it's not on the main status page but hidden in a submenu. Also, check your email including spam/junk folders for notifications from TWC. They send emails when they update your claim status or add correspondence to your inbox. One more thing - if you worked for multiple employers in your base period, TWC might take longer to process your claim because they have to verify with each employer.

•Thank you! I'll check for those tabs. I did work for two different companies in the past year, so maybe that's why it's taking longer. I appreciate everyone's help!

I went through this same frustrating experience a few months ago! Here's what I wish someone had told me from the start: 1. **Keep requesting payment** - This is crucial! Even if you haven't heard anything yet, you MUST request payment on your designated day (Tuesday for SSNs ending in even numbers like yours). Missing these requests can cost you weeks of benefits. 2. **Check multiple places online** - Beyond the main status page, look under "Correspondence" in your account for any determination letters. Sometimes the decision is posted there before it shows up in your main claim status. 3. **Document everything** - Start your work search activities now (3 per week in Texas) and keep detailed records. If you get approved, you'll need to show you've been actively looking for work from day one. 4. **Be patient but persistent** - Initial processing typically takes 2-4 weeks, but can be longer if they need to verify employment history or if there are any red flags. The waiting is absolutely nerve-wracking when you have bills due, but hang in there! Most people do get approved eventually. Just make sure you're following all the requirements while you wait so you don't lose out on benefits due to technicalities.

I'm going through the exact same situation right now! Filed my claim about 10 days ago and still just seeing "claim received" status. The uncertainty is killing me, especially with bills coming due. One thing I discovered that might help - if you go to the TWC website and look for "Benefit Estimator" you can at least get an idea of what your weekly benefit amount would be if approved. It won't tell you if you're approved, but it helps with planning. Also wanted to add that I've been keeping a spreadsheet of all my work search activities just in case. Even though we don't know if we're approved yet, it's better to have them documented from the start than scramble later. Has anyone here had success with the live chat feature on the TWC website? I see it sometimes but it always seems to be "unavailable" when I try to use it.

•I'm in the exact same boat! Filed about a week ago and it's so stressful not knowing. Thanks for the tip about the Benefit Estimator - I didn't know that existed. I'll definitely check that out to at least get an idea of what to expect financially. I tried the live chat a few times but like you said, it's always "unavailable." I think it might only be active during certain hours or maybe it gets overwhelmed quickly. The spreadsheet idea is smart - I've been doing my work search activities but just writing them down on paper. A spreadsheet would be way more organized. Are you tracking anything specific beyond just the basic job application info? It's oddly comforting to know someone else is going through the same waiting game right now. The uncertainty is definitely the worst part!

I'm dealing with this exact same anxiety right now! Filed my claim 5 days ago and keep refreshing the status page hoping something will change. The waiting is brutal when you're already stressed about finances. A few things I've learned from reading through all these responses that I want to emphasize: **Don't wait to request payment!** I almost made this mistake - I was thinking "why would I request payment if I don't even know if I'm approved?" But apparently you can lose those weeks forever if you don't request on time. Since your SSN ends in 8, make sure you're requesting every Tuesday. **Start work search activities immediately** - I've been putting this off thinking I should wait for approval first, but now I realize that was wrong. Going to start logging my job applications today. One thing that's helped my peace of mind is setting up email notifications in my TWC account settings so I'll know immediately if anything changes. At least then I won't be compulsively checking the website every few hours (okay, I'm still doing that but trying not to!). Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences - it really helps to know this waiting period is normal and that most people do eventually get approved. The TWC system definitely isn't user-friendly but at least now I know what I should be doing while I wait!

•I'm literally going through the exact same thing right now! Filed my claim 6 days ago and have been obsessively checking the status page multiple times a day. It's such a relief to see I'm not the only one dealing with this anxiety. Thanks for mentioning the email notifications - I just went and set those up in my account settings. Hopefully that will save me from refreshing the page constantly throughout the day. I also made the same mistake of thinking I should wait for approval before doing work search activities. After reading through all these responses, I'm going to start documenting everything today. Better to be over-prepared than miss out on benefits because of a technicality. The Tuesday payment request thing is so confusing though - the TWC website really doesn't make it clear that you should be requesting payment before you even know if you're approved. I'm glad people here shared that info because I definitely would have missed my first week otherwise. Diego, have you tried calling the Tele-Serv number that was mentioned earlier? I'm wondering if the automated system might at least give us a little more info than the "claim received" status we're seeing online.

I'm going through this exact same situation right now! Just filed my claim last week and I'm in the same boat - constantly refreshing that status page hoping to see something other than "claim received." The financial stress is real when you don't know if help is coming. Reading through everyone's advice here has been incredibly helpful. I had no idea about requesting payment before getting approval - that seems so counterintuitive but I definitely don't want to lose out on weeks of benefits. My SSN ends in 4 so I guess Tuesday is my day too. One thing I wanted to add that helped me feel a bit more in control: I started keeping a detailed log of not just my work search activities, but also all my interactions with TWC (when I called, what automated messages I got, when I checked my account, etc.). It helps me feel like I'm being proactive even when there's nothing I can actually do but wait. The uncertainty is definitely the hardest part. I keep wondering if there's something wrong with my application or if this wait time is actually normal. But seeing so many people here going through the same thing makes me feel less alone in this process. Thanks to everyone sharing their experiences and tips - this community is a lifesaver when you're navigating this confusing system for the first time!

•You're definitely not alone in this! I'm also a first-timer dealing with TWC and the whole process feels like you're flying blind. The "claim received" status is so vague - it would be helpful if they at least gave us an estimated timeline or what step they're on in processing. Your idea about logging all interactions with TWC is really smart. I've been so focused on the work search requirements that I didn't think about documenting the actual claim process itself. That could be useful if there are any issues later on. I'm curious - have you been able to access any other parts of the TWC portal while waiting, or does everything basically show "pending" until they make a decision? I keep clicking around trying to find any additional information but most sections seem locked until after approval. The Tuesday filing thing still confuses me too. It feels weird requesting payment for something that might not even be approved, but I guess that's just how their system works. At least we have this community to help navigate all the unwritten rules!

I'm in the exact same situation! Filed my claim about 8 days ago and still just seeing "claim received" with no updates. The anxiety is real when you're waiting to see if financial help is coming. After reading through all these responses, I realize I've been making some mistakes. I had no idea I should be requesting payment before getting approved - that seems so backwards but I definitely don't want to miss out on benefit weeks. My SSN ends in 6 so Tuesday is my filing day too. Also starting my work search activities today after learning they're required from day one. I was waiting for approval first but now I see that could hurt me later. One tip I can add: I found that if you go to "Unemployment Services" then "View Claim Summary" sometimes it shows a bit more detail than the main status page, though still not much. Also been checking my TWC inbox daily since some people mentioned determination letters appear there first. The waiting is definitely the hardest part, especially when bills are piling up. But it's reassuring to see so many people here going through the same thing. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and advice - this thread has been more helpful than the actual TWC website!

•You're absolutely right about the "View Claim Summary" tip! I just checked and it does show a tiny bit more information than the main status page, though still frustratingly vague. At least it confirms they have all my employer information on file. I'm also doing the Tuesday filing thing now after reading everyone's advice here. It feels so weird requesting payment when you don't even know if you qualify, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. The TWC system really doesn't make any of this intuitive for first-time filers. Started documenting my work search activities yesterday too. I'm using a simple spreadsheet with columns for date, company name, position, method (online application, networking, etc.), and any follow-up. Figure it's better to over-document than be scrambling later if they ask for proof. The inbox checking has become a daily habit for me too! Every morning I wake up hoping to see that determination letter, but so far nothing. The waiting game is brutal when you're already stressed about finances, but at least we're all in this together. This community has been way more helpful than any official TWC resource I've found.

I'm going through this exact same nightmare right now! Filed my claim 12 days ago and still stuck on that useless "claim received" status. The financial stress is unreal when you don't know if help is coming. Reading everyone's advice here has been a lifesaver though. I had NO idea about the payment request thing - almost made that costly mistake of waiting for approval first. My SSN ends in 2 so Tuesday filing for me too. Also immediately started my work search activities after learning they're required from day one (wish TWC made that clearer!). One thing I discovered that might help others: if you click on "Payment Request" even though you're not approved yet, it actually shows you what your weekly benefit amount WOULD be if approved. Doesn't tell you if you'll get it, but at least helps with financial planning while we're all stuck in limbo. The automated Tele-Serv line (800-558-8321) has been slightly more informative than the website. It at least confirms they're "processing" my claim rather than just "received." This waiting game is absolutely brutal but seeing so many people here going through the same thing makes me feel less alone. Why is the TWC system so deliberately unclear about everything?? Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - this thread is more helpful than anything on their actual website!

•I'm dealing with the exact same frustration! Filed my claim 9 days ago and that "claim received" status is driving me crazy. It's like being stuck in bureaucratic purgatory while bills keep coming. Thanks for the tip about the Payment Request section showing the potential weekly benefit amount - I didn't know that! Just checked mine and while it doesn't confirm approval, at least now I have a number to work with for budgeting purposes. I tried the Tele-Serv line yesterday and you're right, it does say "processing" which is slightly more encouraging than the generic "received" message online. Still not much to go on though. The work search requirement really should be explained better upfront. I've been scrambling to document everything retroactively after reading this thread. Starting a spreadsheet today to track all my job applications, networking contacts, and other activities. It's honestly ridiculous how unclear TWC makes this whole process. You'd think they'd want to make it easier for people who are already dealing with the stress of unemployment, but instead we're all here trying to decode their system together. At least this community exists to fill in the gaps their website leaves! Hoping we all get some good news soon. The waiting is the absolute worst part.

One thing I discovered that might help - if you call the main TWC number (512-463-2222) early in the morning around 8am, sometimes you can get through to a human instead of just the busy signal. •That's a great tip about calling early in the morning! I've been trying the main number at random times throughout the day and just getting busy signals. Will definitely try the 8am strategy tomorrow. It's so reassuring to hear that someone was actually able to confirm the 2-3 week timeline - at least now we have a realistic expectation instead of just wondering if our claims fell into some black hole. I'm also in the Monday filing group (SSN ending in 1) and learning all these rules after the fact. It's frustrating that TWC doesn't provide a clear checklist for first-time filers explaining things like immediate work search requirements and the payment request schedule. We shouldn't have to rely on community forums to figure out the basics! The financial planning part is so stressful when you're operating in complete uncertainty. At least knowing it's typically 2-3 weeks gives me a better framework for budgeting and talking to my landlord about timing. Thanks for sharing that phone tip - I'm definitely going to try calling first thing tomorrow morning.
