TWC Unemployment: Claim stopped after missing 3 weeks - How to restart and reach a rep?
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with my unemployment claim. It got stopped because I missed filing for 3 weeks in a row. I've been trying to get in touch with someone to see if I can restart it, but no luck. I've called like 50 times and still can't get through. Anyone know if it's possible to restart a claim after missing weeks? Or have any tips on how to actually reach a human being at the unemployment office?

As someone who used to work for the unemployment office (quit cuz it was a nightmare), here's what you need to know: 1. Yes, you can usually restart a claim even if you missed weeks. It's called "reopening" a claim. 2. You'll probably need to explain why you missed those weeks. Have a good reason ready. 3. They might make you refile depending on how long it's been. Be prepared for that possibility. 4. When you do get through, ask about retroactive certification for the missed weeks. Sometimes they'll let you do it. 5. Be patient with the rep you talk to. We're overwhelmed and understaffed. Good luck!

•Honestly, it's pretty random. But I'd say avoid Mondays and lunch hours if possible.

Have you tried calling right when they open? I heard thats the best time to get through. Also, try different days of the week. Mondays are usually the worst.

•Yeah, I've tried that. Even set my alarm for 5 minutes before they open. Still no luck 😭

•Pro tip: use the Spanish line and then ask for an English speaker. Sometimes works!

•Also, I heard Tuesdays and Thursdays can be slightly better times.

guys. i just had a crazy idea. what if we all agreed on a specific time to STOP calling. like give their system a break. maybe then we could all get through easier? 🤔

I found a method that actually works to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U

Has anyone tried faxing? I know it sounds ancient, but I heard some people have had success getting attention that way.

Plot twist: what if there are no actual humans working at EDD and it's all just an elaborate AI system designed to frustrate us? 🤖👽

Ugh, I feel your pain. The system is so broken. I was in the same boat last year and it took me WEEKS to get through. Keep trying tho, eventually you'll get lucky!

idk if this will help but I made a flow chart of the phone menu options. Might save you some time if you're gonna keep calling: 1 > 2 > 1 > 4 > 2 > 3 > 1 (for general questions) 1 > 2 > 1 > 4 > 2 > 2 (for payment issues) hope this helps someone!

Hey OP, sorry youre dealing with this. Its so frustrating. I had luck emailing my state representative. They have staff that can sometimes intervene and get things moving. Worth a shot!

Claimyr sounds like a viable option if you're at the end of your rope, but remember, it's a paid service. While it can save time and frustration, it's important to weigh the cost against your current financial situation. For those needing immediate help, it could be worth it, but others might prefer exhaust other free methods first. Additionally, it's crucial to keep advocating for systemic improvements in how these services are delivered. If people feel the need to pay to navigate public services, it points to a larger failing in the system that needs addressing.
