TWC Commissioner contact info needed - trying to escalate my claim issue

My unemployment claim has been stuck in limbo for over a month and the regular TWC customer service reps keep giving me different answers every time I call. I've been told I need to escalate this to someone higher up. Does anyone know who the current TWC Commissioner is or which State Representative I should contact about unemployment issues? I've heard emailing them directly can get things moving but I can't find the right contact info anywhere on the TWC website. Any help would be appreciated - I'm desperate at this point and bills are piling up.

I was in the same boat last year. The current TWC Chairman is Bryan Daniel, and there are two other commissioners - Julian Alvarez who represents labor and Aaron Demerson who represents employers. Your best bet is to contact all three, but focus on Julian Alvarez since he's the labor commissioner. The email format is usually firstname.lastname@twc.texas.gov. I also had luck contacting my specific state rep - you can find yours at https://house.texas.gov/members/find-your-representative/ by entering your address. When I got ignored by TWC for 6 weeks, my state rep's office had my issue fixed in 3 days!

Thank you so much for this info! Did you just email them directly explaining your situation? Did you need to include any specific details like your claim number?

Actually, contacting commissioners can work too. I had success with the labor commissioner's office when my ID.me verification got stuck. While state reps are often more responsive, don't dismiss the commissioner option completely. Either way, document everything - dates you called TWC, who you spoke with, what they told you. Makes your case stronger.

maybe i just got a bad person then cuz i emailed all 3 and got nothing back 🤷‍♀️

Before you start emailing commissioners, have you tried calling the TWC Tele-Serv line at 800-558-8321? Sometimes you can get through faster there than the main unemployment line. Another trick is to call right when they open at 7am. If that doesn't work, contact your state rep using the link someone else shared.\n\nIf you've exhausted all those options, I'd recommend trying Claimyr (claimyr.com). It's a service that helps you get through to TWC agents without waiting on hold forever. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U?si=kNxmh025COIlIzKh. I used it when my claim was stuck in pending for 5 weeks and they got me connected to an actual TWC agent who fixed my issue on the spot.

I've been calling Tele-Serv every day for weeks - I just get automated messages saying my claim is

The commissioner won't help you!! The whole system is designed to DENY claims and make it hard to collect benefits!! I contacted ALL the commissioners last year and not ONE responded! They're all appointed by the governor who HATES giving benefits to regular working people. Your best bet is actually contacting a LOCAL news station - once the threat of bad publicity hits they magically fix your claim within 24 hours!!!

This is so true. I gave up on TWC and just found a new job because the system is completely broken. Didn't get a single payment after 3 months of trying.

While I understand your frustration, this isn't helpful to the OP who needs solutions. The system can be difficult but not impossible. I had luck with both my state rep AND the labor commissioner's office. Each case is different. Just keep advocating for yourself and documenting everything.

Yeah definitely reach out to your state rep first. I was having issues with my work search requirements being incorrectly flagged in the system for like 2 months, called TWC over 30 times with no resolution. Finally contacted my state rep's office through their website form, and I got a call from a TWC supervisor the next day apologizing for the delay and my payments were released by the end of the week. \n\nMake sure you include your claim ID, last 4 of SSN, and full contact info when you reach out so they can find your file easily. And be SUPER clear about exactly what issue you're having and how long it's been going on.

This is really helpful advice, thank you! I'll prepare all my information before contacting my state rep. Fingers crossed they can help get this resolved quickly.

Had similar problem but with my appeal being ignored after they said I quit (was actually laid off). Anyways my sister works for state government and she told me to also include my full address and claim filing date when emailing representatives, apparently helps them look up your information faster. Also if you're really desperate the TWC ombudsman office can sometimes help - 800-628-5115. You'll still wait but they specialize in helping with stuck claims.

I went through this exact same nightmare last year and want to share what actually worked for me. First, definitely contact your state representative - they have dedicated staff for constituent services and TWC issues specifically. When you email them, include your full claim number, the date you filed, your address, and a timeline of what's happened so far. But here's what really made the difference for me: I also filed a complaint with the Texas State Auditor's Office (SAO) online. They track systemic issues with state agencies and will forward your complaint to TWC's management. It took about a week, but I got a call from a TWC supervisor who apologized and had my payments released within 48 hours. The SAO complaint form is at sao.texas.gov - look for "Report Fraud, Waste & Abuse" and select "State Agency Service Issues." Make sure to mention how long you've been waiting and that regular customer service hasn't been able to help. Good luck - don't give up!

This is incredibly helpful advice! I had no idea about the State Auditor's Office complaint option - that sounds like it could be really effective since it goes through a different channel than the usual TWC bureaucracy. I'm definitely going to try both the state rep contact and filing an SAO complaint. It's encouraging to hear that you got results in just a week after months of getting nowhere through normal channels. Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed steps!

@Sophia Bennett This is exactly the kind of comprehensive advice that can make a real difference! I ve'been struggling with my claim for over a month now and getting frustrated with the runaround from regular customer service. The State Auditor s'Office route is brilliant - I never would have thought to approach it from that angle. Having multiple avenues of escalation state (rep + SAO complaint seems) like the best strategy to ensure someone actually pays attention to the issue. I m'going to gather all my documentation tonight and submit both requests tomorrow. Really appreciate you sharing what worked for you!

I'm dealing with a similar situation right now - my claim has been "under review" for 6 weeks with no clear explanation from TWC. Reading through all these responses is giving me hope that there are actually ways to escalate beyond the regular customer service maze. I'm definitely going to try the state rep route first since multiple people have had success there, and that State Auditor's Office complaint option sounds really promising too. It's frustrating that we have to jump through all these hoops just to get the benefits we're entitled to, but at least there seem to be ways to get actual results. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - it's reassuring to know I'm not alone in this struggle and that there are people who've actually gotten their issues resolved.

@Molly Hansen I totally feel your frustration - 6 weeks under "review is" absolutely ridiculous! The fact that we have to become amateur investigators just to figure out how to get our own benefits is insane. But you re'right that it s'reassuring to see so many people sharing actual solutions that worked for them. I m'in a similar boat and planning to hit both the state rep and SAO complaint routes this week. Maybe we should check back in a few days and see how our escalation attempts go? It would be helpful to compare notes on what works best. Hang in there - it sounds like persistence really does pay off even though it shouldn t'have to come to this!
