Will PA UC weeks marked 'disqualified' show payment dates after completing workforce requirements?

So I've been struggling to keep up with all the PA unemployment requirements (life's been crazy lately) and I finally completed my workforce registration stuff yesterday. I know it was past the deadline but I had some family emergencies that made everything hectic. My question is: for the weeks that are currently showing as 'disqualified' in my payment history, will they automatically flip to having payment dates once the system recognizes I've completed the workforce registration? Or are those weeks permanently lost because I was late? I really need those payments and I'm freaking out a little that I might have messed up too badly to fix it. Has anyone been through this?

been there. sometimes system updates overnight but usually takes 2-3 days to process your workforce stuff. the weeks might change but depends how late u were

Thanks for responding! When you say 'depends how late' - do you know what the cutoff is? I was about 3 weeks late with completing it. Does that mean I'm totally out of luck? 😰

The PA workforce registration requirement is strict but there are some exceptions. If your weeks show as 'disqualified' specifically because of missing workforce registration (and not for another reason), they can sometimes be reinstated after you complete the requirement. However, this isn't automatic - you'll need to contact the UC office directly to request a review of those weeks. Be prepared to explain your 'hectic' situation in detail as they'll want to know why you couldn't complete it on time. Valid reasons include illness, family emergencies with documentation, or technical issues with the system. Just being busy usually isn't enough of a reason for them.

Oh wow, I didn't realize I needed to contact them specifically about this. Do you know if there's a time limit for requesting this review? I've been putting off calling because getting through to someone seems impossible.

I had THE EXACT SAME ISSUE last year! Was late on workforce registration because of my mom's hospital stay. My weeks stayed as disqualified for like 2 weeks and I panicked!!! Then I called UC office like 50 times before finally getting through. The lady was actually super nice and had me explain why I was late. She put a note on my account and within 3 days all my disqualified weeks changed to payment dates! Don't give up!!!

That's such a relief to hear! I've been so worried. I do have documentation of the family emergency so hopefully that helps my case. Did you have to send in any proof or just explain your situation over the phone?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but in my experience PA UC is EXTREMELY strict about deadlines. I was only 1 week late with my workforce reg and they permanently disqualified those weeks. No amount of calling or explaining helped. The system is designed to deny benefits whenever possible. They don't care about your personal circumstances at all.

This isn't entirely accurate. While PA UC does enforce deadlines, they have official policies for granting exceptions in cases of documented emergencies or certain hardships. The key is getting through to a claims examiner who can review your specific situation. Representatives at the call center have varying levels of authority to make these adjustments.

If you've been trying to call the PA UC office without success, I'd recommend trying Claimyr. It helped me get through to someone after weeks of busy signals and hang-ups. You can see how it works in this video: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 I was in a similar situation with some workforce registration issues and needed to talk to an actual person. Got connected within 20 minutes using their service when I'd spent days trying on my own. Their website is claimyr.com if you want to check it out. For something like this where you need to explain your situation, speaking to a real person is definitely the way to go.

Thank you for this recommendation! I've been calling for days with no luck. I'll check out that video because I'm desperate to speak to an actual person about my situation.

does that actually work? seems sketchy to pay just to talk to unemployment when its supposed to be free

It definitely worked for me. I was skeptical too, but I'd already wasted like 15 hours trying to get through on my own. They basically just help you skip the phone queue. Still talking to the same UC reps, just without the busy signals and constant disconnects.

Here's the official policy on this: PA UC allows for backdating workforce registration requirements under certain circumstances. You need to prove you had "good cause" for missing the deadline, which includes documented medical emergencies, family crises, or technical system issues. You have 15 days from completing your workforce registration to request a review of disqualified weeks. You must call the UC service center and specifically request a "redetermination based on completing workforce registration requirements with good cause for delay." They may ask you to submit documentation of your emergency by mail or through your dashboard. If approved, weeks will change from disqualified to payment status within 7-10 business days. Keep filing your weekly claims while this process happens. And yes, getting through to them by phone is the hardest part of the whole process.

This is incredibly helpful information! I didn't know there was a specific 15-day window to request the review. I completed my workforce registration yesterday, so I need to make this call ASAP. Thank you so much for the exact terminology to use!

When I had problems with my UC claim I went to my state representative's office and they helped me. They have special contacts at unemployment and can sometimes get things fixed faster than you can on your own. Might be worth a try if the phone calls don't work out.

This is excellent advice. State representatives' offices often have dedicated staff who handle UC issues and direct lines to the unemployment office. They can be particularly helpful with complex situations or when standard channels have failed.

Quick update - I just remembered something important! When I had this issue they told me I still needed to keep filing my weekly claims for EVERY week even though they were showing as disqualified!!! Don't stop filing or you could lose those weeks permanently!

Thank you for the reminder! I've been filing every week despite the disqualification status, just in case. I'm going to try calling tomorrow and if I can't get through, I'll check out that Claimyr service someone mentioned. I'll update here if I get this resolved for anyone else who might have the same issue!

Just wanted to add that documentation is key here! When I had to request a review for late workforce registration, they accepted hospital discharge papers for my family emergency. Make sure you have any paperwork ready - medical records, death certificates, police reports, etc. Even if you explain everything perfectly on the phone, they'll likely ask you to upload or mail supporting documents through your UC dashboard. Having everything organized beforehand will speed up the process once you get through to someone.

I went through something similar about 6 months ago! I was 2 weeks late with my workforce registration due to a car accident and hospitalization. The disqualified weeks DID get converted to payment dates, but it took some persistence. Here's what worked for me: I called first thing in the morning (8 AM sharp) and got through after about 45 minutes on hold. The rep was understanding once I explained the situation and had my hospital records ready. She filed something called a "good cause determination" and told me to check back in 7-10 business days. Sure enough, about 8 days later all my disqualified weeks flipped to showing payment dates and I got the back payments within another week. The key was having documentation ready and being polite but persistent with the rep. Don't panic - 3 weeks late isn't automatically disqualifying if you have legitimate documentation of your family emergency. Just make sure you keep filing your weekly claims in the meantime!

This gives me so much hope! Your timeline sounds very similar to mine - I was also about 3 weeks late due to family emergencies. I have documentation from the hospital and other paperwork ready to go. It's really reassuring to hear that 3 weeks late isn't automatically disqualifying. I'm going to try calling first thing tomorrow morning like you suggested. Did you have to follow up at all during that 7-10 day waiting period, or did the system just automatically update once they processed your good cause determination?

I'm in almost the exact same boat! I was about 2.5 weeks late completing my workforce registration because of a family crisis (had to travel out of state unexpectedly). My weeks are showing as disqualified and I've been so stressed about it. Reading through all these responses is actually giving me some hope though - it sounds like there's definitely a path to getting this fixed if you have documentation and can get through to the right person. I'm planning to try calling tomorrow morning at 8 AM sharp like Sean suggested, and I'll have all my documentation ready. If that doesn't work I might try that Claimyr service Omar mentioned since I really need to talk to someone who can actually help rather than just getting busy signals all day. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - this is such a stressful situation but it helps knowing I'm not alone in dealing with this!
