PA UC payments on hold after missing RESEA class - need urgent help!
I completely messed up and missed my RESEA (Reemployment Services and Eligibility Assessment) appointment last Tuesday. Now my weekly payments are on hold and I'm freaking out about bills. Has anyone gone through this? The PA UC website shows my payments as 'pending' with a notice about 'failure to attend mandatory services' but doesn't tell me what to do next. Do I need to reschedule? Will they backpay me once I complete the class? This is my first time on unemployment and I'm so lost right now.

•3 WEEKS?? I can't go that long without income. Did you have to do anything special to get them to release the payments?

The UC system is DESIGNED to trip you up with these mandatory classes!!!! They know people miss them and then they can just stop paying you. I missed mine too and it took FOREVER to get it fixed. They're hoping you'll just give up and stop claiming. Classic PA bureaucracy at work.

You need to contact your RESEA coordinator immediately to reschedule. Each PA CareerLink handles these differently, but generally: 1. Call the CareerLink office where your RESEA was scheduled 2. Explain your situation and ask to reschedule 3. Request they notify UC that you've rescheduled 4. Continue filing your weekly claims while this is being resolved Once you complete the rescheduled RESEA workshop, they should release your held payments, though sometimes you'll need to contact UC directly to ensure this happens.

•Thank you! I've been trying to call CareerLink but keep getting voicemail. I'll keep trying. Should I also be contacting UC directly or wait until after I reschedule?

I went through this EXACT situation in January! Literally took me 8 days calling the PA UC line CONSTANTLY before I finally got through to someone. When I finally reached them, they scheduled me for the next available RESEA workshop (which was 2 weeks out), and told me I'd get all my backpay once I completed it. Thankfully, that's exactly what happened. If you're struggling to get through on the phone, I recommend trying Claimyr (claimyr.com). I found them after days of frustration - they help you get through to a UC agent without endless busy signals. There's a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 Seriously saved me so much stress when I was in your exact situation.

I work at PA CareerLink (not as UC staff, but adjacent). Some important info about RESEA that might help: 1. Missing a RESEA appointment automatically triggers a hold on benefits 2. You need to reschedule AND attend the new appointment before payments resume 3. The rescheduling needs to be documented in the system by CareerLink staff 4. You should receive back payments for weeks properly claimed during the hold period 5. There's usually a 24-48 hour processing time after completing RESEA before payments resume Contact your local CareerLink office directly rather than the UC service center if possible - they have more direct control over RESEA scheduling.

•This is so helpful, thank you! I finally got through to my local CareerLink and rescheduled for next Tuesday. They said they'd note it in the system but didn't guarantee when payments would restart. Fingers crossed it won't take the full 3 weeks others mentioned.

•Wait, you can reapply online? I didn't see that option on the PA CareerLink site. Which website did you use?

•I attended the rescheduled workshop yesterday! The instructor said payments should resume within 48 hours. I'll update when/if they do.

My cousin werked at CareerLink for 3 years and she said they have a special form for missed RESEA that can speed things up but u gotta ask for it specifically bcuz they dont tell ppl about it

•This is actually true. It's called a RESEA-1 exemption request (though they recently might have renamed it). If you have a legitimate reason for missing the appointment, this form can help expedite the process. Not everyone qualifies though.

UPDATE: Just wanted to let everyone know my payments finally started again! Took exactly 9 days from completing the rescheduled RESEA workshop. They paid all the back weeks too. For anyone else who misses their RESEA appointment: 1) Reschedule immediately 2) Keep filing your weekly claims 3) Be prepared to wait 1-2 weeks after completing the workshop for payments to resume. Thanks everyone for your help!
