PA UC payment stopped after missed RESEA appointment - single mom with infant needs help!
I'm freaking out here! My PA unemployment payment didn't come through this week because I missed my RESEA appointment (Reemployment Services and Eligibility Assessment). The CareerLink website kept crashing when I tried to schedule it, and now they've stopped my benefits completely! I called the UC service center and got through after 2 hours, but the rep just said "we don't know how long it will take to resolve" and that I'm basically out of luck until someone reviews my case. I have a 4-month-old baby, no partner help, and UC is literally my ONLY income right now. Has anyone dealt with this RESEA issue before? How long did it take to get your benefits restored? I can't wait weeks - need to buy formula and diapers!

•3 WEEKS?? I can't survive that long without money. Did calling CareerLink actually help or did you just have to wait it out? I'm going to try calling them tomorrow first thing.

I work with PA UC claims regularly, and this is unfortunately common with RESEA appointments. The system doesn't distinguish between people who willfully miss appointments versus those who had technical difficulties. Here's what you need to do: 1. Call CareerLink directly and document who you speak with (name, date, time) 2. Request they submit a "RESEA compliance exemption" due to technical difficulties 3. File an appeal immediately against the payment stoppage - don't wait! 4. Continue filing your weekly claims even though you're not getting paid 5. Call your state representative's office - they can sometimes expedite UC issues RESEA issues typically take 2-3 weeks to resolve unless you get help from a state rep.

•Thank you SO much for this detailed info. I didn't even think about contacting my state rep! Should I file the appeal online or is there a specific form for RESEA issues? I'm definitely still filing my weekly claims but it's scary seeing $0 in the payment section.

Did you try to reschedule the RESEA appointment yourself? Sometimes you can avoid the payment stoppage if you reschedule BEFORE the original appointment date. That's what I did when my car broke down and I couldn't make it to mine. But if the website wasn't working, that's not your fault! I'd call them every single day until they fix it. The system is so unfair to single parents!

•This advice doesn't apply if the system already flagged a missed RESEA. Once benefits are suspended, rescheduling doesn't automatically restore payments - that requires manual review. The system is designed to be punitive first, sort out later.

Not to hijack but RESEA is such a joke anyway. I had to sit through a 3 hour presentation telling me how to make a resume when I've been working for 22 years. Complete waste of time and the CareerLink people treated us like children. But you HAVE to do it or they cut you off. The whole UC system is designed to find ways to not pay people what they're owed.

•I don't even mind doing the RESEA requirements - I just couldn't access the system to schedule it! That's what makes this so frustrating. I would've happily sat through any presentation they wanted if it meant keeping my benefits active.

Have you tried using Claimyr to get through to an actual PA UC representative? I was stuck in a similar situation with a payment hold due to an "open issue" and couldn't get through on the phone for days. I found this service at claimyr.com that got me connected to a UC agent in about 20 minutes instead of spending hours redialing. They have a video explaining how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 Once I got through to someone who could actually see my claim details, they were able to escalate my issue to a supervisor who removed the hold. For RESEA issues, you definitely need to speak with someone who has authority to override the automatic payment stop.

File your appeal online through your dashboard. Go to "Appeals" section and select the determination letter that stopped your benefits (should be dated right after your missed RESEA). In your appeal explanation, be very specific about the CareerLink technical issues - include dates and times you tried to access the system, any error messages, screenshots if you have them. Also, call 2-1-1 to see if there are any emergency assistance programs in your area that can help with formula and diapers while your UC is sorted out. Many counties have emergency funds for families with infants.

•Thank you - I just filed the appeal online. I didn't have screenshots but I described exactly what happened with the system errors. I'll call 211 tomorrow morning. Hoping this gets resolved quickly!

I had this exact same problem!!!! The PA CareerLink site is GARBAGE and it caused me to miss my RESEA too. I finaly got it fixed by going IN PERSON to the CareerLink office with my laptop and showing them that the site wouldnt work. They had an supervisor override something in the system and my benefits started again with the next payment. Try going in person if you can thats the only thing that worked for me.

•That's really smart! There's a CareerLink about 20 minutes from me. Did you need an appointment or did you just show up? I'll try calling first but going in person might be faster.

Update us when you get this resolved. I'm documenting these kinds of cases to show how the system fails parents and caregivers. Missing one appointment due to THEIR technical issues shouldn't leave a mother without funds for her baby. This is the kind of thing that pushes people into desperate situations.

•I definitely will update. I managed to get an appointment at CareerLink for tomorrow morning and I'm bringing documentation of all my attempts to schedule the RESEA. Fingers crossed they can help expedite this!

Just checking back - were you able to get this fixed? Did going to CareerLink in person help?

•YES!! Going in person was the key! I met with a supervisor who confirmed they've been having system issues. She rescheduled my RESEA for next week AND submitted an override for my missed appointment due to technical difficulties. My payment should process within 2-3 days. Such a relief! Thanks to everyone who helped with advice.

I'm so glad you got it resolved by going in person! This is exactly why I always tell people to document everything when dealing with UC issues. Your experience shows how broken the system is - a single mom shouldn't have to jump through hoops to prove that THEIR website wasn't working. But at least now other parents in similar situations know that going to CareerLink in person with documentation can actually get results. Hope your payment comes through quickly!

•This whole situation really highlights how the system punishes people for problems that aren't their fault. I'm new to this community but dealing with similar UC issues myself. It's incredible that you had to prove their own website was broken just to get your rightful benefits restored. At least your story gives hope to others - going in person with documentation seems to be the only way to cut through the bureaucracy. Glad you and your baby won't go without essentials while waiting for the system to work properly!

This thread has been incredibly helpful to read as someone who just started dealing with PA UC issues myself. Malik, I'm so relieved you got your benefits restored - what a nightmare to deal with as a single parent! It's really eye-opening to see how many people have had similar problems with the CareerLink system crashing during RESEA scheduling. The advice about going in person with documentation seems to be the golden ticket. I'm bookmarking this whole conversation in case I run into similar issues. It's crazy that the system is set up to automatically punish people first and ask questions later, but at least this community exists to help each other navigate these bureaucratic minefields. Thank you to everyone who shared their experiences and solutions!

•I'm also new here and this thread has been a lifesaver! Reading everyone's experiences really shows how common these RESEA system failures are. What struck me most is how @Malik Thomas had to essentially prove the state s'own website was broken just to get benefits restored - that s'backwards! But seeing the community come together with practical solutions like going to CareerLink in person, calling state reps, and documenting everything gives me hope. I m'dealing with my own UC complications and knowing there are real strategies that work not (just keep "calling makes") such a difference. Thanks everyone for sharing your knowledge - it s'clear this community is a vital resource for navigating PA s'frustrating system!
