How to backdate a PA UC claim started after IDme verification delays?
I'm so frustrated with the PA unemployment system right now! I finally got my new claim approved that started on 3/15/2025, but it SHOULD have started a week earlier. The problem was that stupid IDme verification system that PA UC implemented. I couldn't log in for almost a week because the system kept rejecting my documents and the video verification kept failing. By the time I finally got through to someone who could help fix my account access, I'd lost a week of benefits. Now I just submitted my first weekly certification and of course they're holding it as a "waiting week" - but if my claim had started when it was supposed to, I'd already be on my second payable week! I've never really dealt with unemployment before 2025, and everything seems different now with all these online systems. I'm worried I might have even messed up my certification somehow. Can I get them to backdate my claim to the correct start date? Has anyone successfully done this? And how long does it usually take for them to process that first waiting week? I'm stressing about bills piling up!

•Thanks for replying. I don't remember seeing a backdate question when filing! Is there any way to do it online or do I HAVE to call? I've been trying the 888 number all morning and just keep getting busy signals. 😫

Yes, you can definitely request backdating for your claim, especially since the delay was due to the IDme verification issues, which is considered a technical problem on their end. You'll need to call the PA UC service center at 888-313-7284, but be prepared for a long wait. When you get through, explain that your claim start date was delayed due to IDme verification problems. They should be able to backdate your claim to the week you originally intended to file. Make sure you have the exact dates of when you first tried to access the system and when you finally got verified. Regarding your waiting week - yes, Pennsylvania still requires a waiting week on new claims. This is the first eligible week of your claim for which no benefits are paid. You'll start receiving payments from your second eligible week forward, assuming you meet all other requirements.

•Thank you for such a detailed explanation! Do you know if they'll automatically adjust my waiting week once the backdating is approved? Or will I have to request that separately?

I had this EXACT same issue with IDme back in January! The facial recognition thing kept failing and then locked me out completely. So annoying. I ended up having to go to the CareerLink office in person to get help. They couldn't fix it directly but they gave me a direct number to someone who could help with the backdating. Took about 3 weeks for everything to get fixed but I did eventually get paid for that missed week.

•That's good to hear it worked out eventually! Which CareerLink did you go to? I'm in Allegheny County. Did they give you the direct number right away or did you have to really push for it?

•I went to the one in Montgomery County. The lady at the front desk was super helpful but the numbers change all the time so not sure if it would even still work. Worth a try though! Just bring all your claim paperwork with you.

I've helped several people with backdating issues. Here's what you need to do: 1. First, try using the Message Center in your PA UC dashboard. Create a new message with the subject line "Backdate Request" and clearly explain the IDme verification issues that prevented you from filing on time. Include specific dates. 2. If you don't get a response within 7-10 days (which is common), then you do need to call. The best times to call are Tuesday-Thursday between 8:15-9:30am or 3:00-3:45pm. Avoid Mondays completely. 3. When you get through, ask specifically for a "backdate request due to IDme technical issues." This will route you to the right department. 4. After backdating is approved, your waiting week will automatically adjust to the new first week of your claim. Regarding your certification concerns - don't worry too much. As long as you reported any earnings accurately and indicated you were able and available to work, you should be fine. The system will tell you if there's an issue with your certification.

•Thank you so much for these detailed steps! I'll try the Message Center approach first. One more question - will they notify me when the backdating is approved or do I need to keep checking my dashboard?

•You'll get a notification in your Message Center when it's approved. You'll also see the change reflected in your claim information (the Benefit Year Begin date will change). Once approved, you'll need to file the weekly certification for that additional week. The system will prompt you to do this when you log in.

They NEVER answer the phone, I've been trying for two weeks straight!!! The system is BROKEN and they don't care. I filed in February and haven't seen a PENNY while bills are piling up!!! My claim has been "under review" for 7 weeks with no explanation. This is my third time on unemployment and it's never been this bad before. The IDme thing is just another way to make it harder for people to get benefits they DESERVE and PAY INTO!!!!!

•Same here man. Been calling 30-40 times a day for weeks. This system is designed to prevent us from getting benefits.

•I tried that this morning! Started calling at 7:58 and kept hitting redial until 9:30 with no luck. I'll try again tomorrow I guess...

I was in a similar situation last month with the IDme verification nightmare. After trying for days to get through on the regular unemployment line, I discovered this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get through to someone at PA UC within 30 minutes. They basically keep dialing for you and then call you when they get through to an agent. They have a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 I was skeptical at first but was desperate enough to try anything. It actually worked and I got my backdating issue resolved in one call. The rep I spoke with was able to backdate my claim to the correct week and adjust my waiting week accordingly. Saved me hours of frustration!

•That sounds promising! I'm getting desperate enough to try anything at this point. Did you have to explain your backdating situation multiple times to different people or were you able to get it all done in that one call?

•I explained it once to the rep who answered. She put me on a brief hold to check my claim details, then processed the backdating request right there on the call. She confirmed it was approved before we hung up. The whole call took maybe 15 minutes once I got through to someone. Definitely better than days of busy signals!

not sure about backdating but for the certification part just be totally honest and you'll be fine. they're really looking for people who lie about working while collecting UC. if u reported everything correctly dont worry about that part

Just wanted to add - make sure when you request the backdating, you specifically mention that your inability to file was due to "technical issues with the IDme verification system." This is considered a valid reason for backdating under PA UC guidelines. Also, when you do get through to someone, ask them to document in your file that you've been attempting to contact them about this issue. This creates a record showing you've been proactive about resolving the problem, which can help if there are any further delays.

•That's really helpful advice, thank you! I'll make sure to use that exact phrasing about the technical issues. Do you know how far back they typically allow backdating for technical reasons? My issue is just one week, but I'm curious.

•For technical issues with their systems (like IDme verification problems), they can typically backdate up to 6 weeks without much hassle. Anything beyond that requires additional approval, but since you're only asking for one week, it should be straightforward once you actually reach someone.

UPDATE: I tried the Claimyr service that someone mentioned here, and I actually got through to PA UC this morning! The rep was able to see in their system that I had multiple failed IDme verification attempts before my successful one. She submitted the backdating request while I was on the phone and said it should be processed within 3-5 business days. She also confirmed that my waiting week will automatically adjust to the new first week of my claim once the backdating is approved. Thank you all for your help and suggestions! I'll update again once everything is finalized.

•That's great! At least SOMEONE at UC is doing their job. Let us know if they actually follow through - I've had them promise things on the phone before that never happened. DOCUMENT EVERYTHING!!

•Definitely worth it for me. I'd already wasted hours trying to call on my own with no luck. Got through in about 25 minutes with their service and had my issue resolved quickly. Wish the regular phone lines worked better but at least there's a workaround!

Great to hear you got through and resolved it! I'm dealing with a similar IDme verification nightmare right now - been locked out for 3 days because the facial recognition keeps failing. Super frustrating that they implemented this system without making sure it actually works properly. For anyone else struggling with IDme specifically, I found that using a different device sometimes helps. The facial recognition worked better on my laptop than on my phone. Also make sure you have really good lighting - that seemed to make a difference for me when I finally got through the verification process. Thanks for sharing your experience with the Claimyr service too. Might have to try that if I run into backdating issues once I can actually access my account again.

•The IDme facial recognition is such a pain! I had the same issue where it kept failing on my phone but worked on my laptop. Also try clearing your browser cache and cookies before attempting - that helped me get through after multiple failed attempts. The lighting tip is spot on too - I had to practically sit next to a window during daytime to get enough light for it to work properly. It's ridiculous that we have to jump through all these hoops just to access benefits we're entitled to. Hope you get through the verification soon!

I'm dealing with the exact same IDme nightmare right now! Filed my claim last week but got stuck in verification hell for 4 days. The facial recognition kept timing out and their customer service was useless. Finally got verified yesterday but now I'm worried about the same backdating issue you had. Reading through all these responses, it sounds like the Message Center approach might be worth trying first before dealing with the phone system. Has anyone had success getting backdating approved through the online message system alone, or did everyone eventually have to call? Also @Zainab Ismail - really hoping your backdating gets processed smoothly! Keep us posted on how it goes. This whole IDme rollout has been such a disaster.

•I tried the Message Center approach first before calling and unfortunately didn't get any response after 10 days. That's when I ended up using the Claimyr service that @CosmicCommander mentioned. From what I've seen in this thread and other posts, most people who got backdating approved had to actually speak to someone on the phone - the online messages seem to get ignored a lot of the time. Since you just got verified yesterday, I'd still try the Message Center first (it's worth a shot and doesn't cost anything), but don't wait too long before trying to call if you don't hear back. The sooner you get the backdating request in, the better. Good luck with the IDme recovery - hopefully they'll fix these technical issues soon because this is affecting way too many people!

I went through something very similar earlier this year! The IDme verification system is absolutely terrible - I was locked out for almost 2 weeks because their facial recognition kept failing even though I was following all their instructions perfectly. What finally worked for me was calling during their less busy hours (around 2-3pm on weekdays) and being very specific about the "technical system failure" language when explaining the situation. The rep I spoke with said they've been getting tons of calls about IDme issues and they have a streamlined process now for backdating claims when the delay was due to their verification system problems. One tip that might help - when you do get through, ask them to put a note in your file about the IDme verification delays. This creates a paper trail showing the issue wasn't on your end, which can be helpful if any other problems come up with your claim later. The good news is that once they approve the backdating, everything else should process normally. My waiting week automatically adjusted and I got paid for that missing week within about 10 days of the approval. Hang in there - it's frustrating but it does get resolved eventually!
