What does 'Previous Claim with Disqualification Issues' mean on my PA UC claim?
I just recertified for my PA unemployment benefits after starting a new benefit year, and noticed something weird on my dashboard. It says 'Previous Claim with Disqualification Issues' under my claim status, but I've never been disqualified before (at least not that I know of). Does this mean my current claim is disqualified? Or is it referring to something from my old claim? I'm totally confused because I've been getting payments fine until now, and suddenly this appeared after my benefit year renewal. Has anyone seen this message before or know what it means? Really stressing out because I need these payments to make rent next month.

That status is referring to your previous benefit year, not your current claim. It's showing up because during your last benefit period, there was some kind of issue that resulted in a disqualification - maybe for a week or two, not necessarily the whole claim. The system keeps this history when you start a new benefit year. Check your payment history from your previous benefit year - you'll probably notice a week or two where you didn't get paid, or got less than normal. As long as your current weekly claims are going through, you should be fine.

•Oh wow, that makes sense! There was 1 week last year where I had to work a temp job and reported those earnings. I think I got disqualified that week because I earned too much. So this is just telling me there was an issue in the past? That's a relief!

Are you sure it doesn't say 'Previous Claim with Disqualification Issues UNDER REVIEW' or something like that? Because that would be different. The exact wording matters a lot with PA UC! When I had this happen, it actually WAS affecting my new claim because they were reviewing if the old disqualification should carry over. You should probably call them to make sure everything is ok with your current claim status!! I waited 3 weeks thinking everything was fine and then found out they were holding all my payments!!

•Crap now I'm worried again. It just says 'Previous Claim with Disqualification Issues' nothing about review. But I haven't gotten my payment yet this week when I usually would have by now...

This is TYPICAL PA UC nonsense!!! They deliberately use confusing status messages so you won't know what's happening. Then when you try to call to clarify, SURPRISE - busy signals for days!!! I had something similar and it took 5 WEEKS to resolve because no one would answer the damn phone. The system is DESIGNED to frustrate people into giving up on benefits they're entitled to!!

•I've been trying to call all morning with no luck. Just busy signals or it hangs up on me. This is so frustrating!

I was stuck in a similar situation back in January. Kept getting this weird status message about previous disqualifications when I started my new benefit year, but nothing was wrong with my current claim. The problem is you definitely need to confirm this with a representative. I wasted 3 days trying to get through on the phone before I discovered Claimyr (claimyr.com). They got me connected to a PA UC agent in about 20 minutes when I'd been trying for days on my own. There's a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 - totally worth it because the agent cleared up the confusion right away and my payments started coming normally again.

•Thanks for this tip! I'm desperate to talk to someone and clarify what's going on. I'll check out that link right now.

PA unemployment eligibility specialist here. This status message is somewhat confusing but common. 'Previous Claim with Disqualification Issues' is simply noting that during your last benefit year, there was at least one week where you were disqualified (likely due to excess earnings, refusal of work, failure to report for an interview, etc.). This is purely informational and doesn't affect your current claim processing unless there's other language suggesting it's under review or pending investigation. When a new benefit year is established, the system links to your previous claim history. If your current weekly certifications are being accepted and there's no specific 'open issue' message on your current claim, you should be fine. However, if your payment for current weeks is delayed and you can't reach anyone by phone, you can also send a message through your dashboard (though response times are typically 7-10 business days).

•Thank you so much for the clear explanation! I just checked and my payment finally came through today. It was just delayed by a day compared to normal. Sounds like this was just an informational message about my past claim like you said. What a relief!

this happened to me too!! i freaked out thinking i wasnt going to get paid!! turns out it was just showing that i had 1 week during my last claim where i didnt qualify cause i made too much at my part time job that week. as long as ur current weeks dont say 'disqualified' ur probably ok!

Just to add onto what others have said - it might be worth checking your 'Claim Summary' page to see if there are any outstanding issues listed for your current benefit year. That's different from the dashboard status and would show any actual problems with your current claim. The Previous Claim message is just historical info.

•I checked my Claim Summary and there aren't any outstanding issues listed for my current benefit year! And my payment actually came through today, just a day late compared to usual. So it looks like everything is fine after all. Thanks for the help everyone!
