PA UC payment sent to old Money Network card about to expire - how to transfer to new card?

Hey everyone, I'm in a weird situation with my PA unemployment payments. I got laid off from my warehouse job on February 15th this year and applied for UC benefits right away. Since I had collected benefits back in 2023, they sent me a brand new Money Network card (it's actually a Visa now). I activated it immediately and was waiting for my first payment. But here's the problem - I just got a text notification that my payment was deposited, but they put it on my OLD Money Network card which expires at the end of this month! Not the new one they just sent me. Does anyone know how to get this fixed? Can I transfer the funds from the old card to the new one? Or do I need to call someone to get future payments directed to the correct card? I really need this money ASAP and I'm worried about losing access when the old card expires in a couple weeks. Any help appreciated!

Thanks for the quick response! Do you remember how long it took to get fixed? I'm really stressing about this since the old card expires so soon.

Wait your card is expiring at the end of THIS month?? That's in like 2 weeks! I would definitely call them today if possible. They might be able to expedite a replacement or at least make sure your funds don't get locked when it expires.

This is actually a common issue in the PA UC system. When you're reapplying for benefits within the same benefit year, payments will default to the card on file unless you specifically request a change. Here's what you need to do: 1. Call the Money Network customer service at the number on the back of your card 2. Explain that you have two cards and need all funds transferred to your new card 3. Request that they update your account preferences to direct all future deposits to the new card 4. Get a confirmation number or email for the change Alternatively, you can withdraw all the money from the old card before it expires, either through an ATM or by transferring it to your bank account through the Money Network mobile app. Don't wait on this - card expiration can create complications with accessing your funds!

Thank you so much for the detailed instructions! I'll call them right away. Quick question - are there any fees for transferring the money between cards or to my bank account?

I went thru this exact headache last year and spent 3 WEEKS trying to get someone from PA UC on the phone with no luck!!! kept getting busy signals or disconnected!!! finally I found this service called Claimyr that got me connected to an actual human at unemployment in like 20 minutes - claimyr.com - they have a video showing how it works https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 the unemployment agent was able to update my payment method right away. saved me so much frustration!

Is this legit??? Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this service?? I've been trying to reach PA UC for weeks about an open issue and can never get through!!

Yeah it's totally legit! I was skeptical too but was desperate after days of trying. They basically hold your place in line and call you when they get through. Worth every penny when your benefits are held up!

This is one of the most frustrating things about PA's unemployment system - they send out new cards but don't automatically update where your payments go! 🤬 I had to deal with this mess twice. The Money Network people were actually pretty helpful but it still took almost a week to get everything sorted. In the meantime, I'd suggest withdrawing whatever you can from the old card ASAP before it expires. The system is deliberately complicated to discourage people from collecting benefits they're entitled to!!

While I understand your frustration, I don't think the system is deliberately designed to be complicated. It's more likely outdated technology combined with understaffing. In any case, OP should definitely contact Money Network directly about this issue rather than UC, as they handle all card-related matters.

UPDATE: I finally got this resolved! Called the Money Network number (took forever to get through) and they explained that they can't transfer funds directly between cards, but they helped me set up the new card as my default for future payments. For the money already on the old card, I'm using their app to transfer it to my bank account before the expiration date. They also said even if the card expires, the funds don't disappear - I would just need to request a replacement card for that specific account. But I'd rather just move everything to the new card system to avoid confusion. Thanks everyone for your help!

Good point! I'll definitely keep an eye on it when my next payment is scheduled. This whole system is so confusing sometimes.

I actually just got laid off too and haven't applied for UC yet. Thanks for posting about this card issue - I'm going to make sure I specifically ask about this when I file my claim! My old ReliaCard from 2023 expired a few months ago so I was gonna need a new one anyway.

Just a helpful tip for anyone dealing with PA UC payments and Money Network cards: you can set up direct deposit to your personal bank account through your UC dashboard online. It's much more convenient than dealing with these cards and any related issues. Look for the "Payment Information" section after logging in to your dashboard.

I tried setting up direct deposit when I first applied but the system kept giving me an error. I'll try again now that my claim is actually approved. Would definitely prefer that over dealing with these cards!
