PA UC payments released but might go to debit card due to 2020 banking issue - will this work?
Hey everyone, I'm really confused about where my money's going to end up. I finally got through to PA UC today and the rep told me my payments were released (thank goodness!) but then said I need to call the treasury department because of some 'suspicious activity' with my banking info from an old claim back in 2020. I honestly don't even remember what bank account I used back then. I did update all my banking info for this new claim and already received a Money Network debit card in the mail last week. The rep wasn't clear about whether my payments would automatically go on this new card or if they're still trying to send it to my old banking info. Has anyone dealt with this before? Should I just wait a few days to see if the money hits the debit card, or do I absolutely need to call treasury first? I'm worried if I don't call, the money will get stuck in limbo somewhere.

•Really? That would be such a relief! Did they tell you that you HAD to call treasury too?

I'd strongly recommend calling Treasury. When there's a banking flag on your account, the system often holds payments until it's resolved - even if you have a new debit card. The UC rep wouldn't have told you to call Treasury if it wasn't necessary. The number you need is 877-869-1956, and make sure to have your claim confirmation number and SSN ready when you call. Don't wait or you might end up with payment delays stretching into weeks.

•THIS!!!! Listen to this advice!!!! I ignored a similar message last year and my payments were on hold for FIVE WEEKS!!! The Treasury dept has to manually override the banking flag, it DOESN'T automatically fix itself!!!!

When I had a similar issue with my unemployment payments and banking flags, I was stuck on hold with Treasury for 3+ hours and kept getting disconnected. After 3 frustrating days trying, I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an actual human at PA UC in about 20 minutes. They connected me directly to someone who could see both my UC claim AND my payment issue, so I didn't even need to call Treasury separately. Saved me so much hassle! They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2

•I've never heard of this service before. Does it really work? I've been on hold with Treasury for an hour already today and got disconnected twice.

•Yes, it definitely worked for me. The UC agent they connected me with was able to call Treasury from their end while I was on the line, which apparently they can do for these types of issues. Got it all sorted in one call.

•That's a separate issue from what OP is asking about. But just FYI - Money Network cards sometimes get declined if the store runs it as credit instead of debit. Always select debit and use your PIN.

To directly answer your question: If there was a banking flag from 2020, your payment will NOT automatically route to your new debit card until Treasury clears the flag. This is a security measure PA implemented in 2023 to prevent fraud. You need to call Treasury at 877-869-1956 and request a "banking flag removal and payment redirect" to your Money Network card. Once they process this (usually same day), your payments will deposit within 2-3 business days. The redirect form they complete overrides the old banking information completely.

•Thank you!! This explains it perfectly. I'll call Treasury right away. Really appreciate the clear explanation - PA UC made it sound confusing.

I had this EXACT situation in January!!! They flagged my account because someone tried to hack into it back in 2020 during all that PUA fraud stuff. Even though I had nothing to do with it and am on regular UC now!!! Took me FOREVER to get it fixed and I nearly got evicted waiting for my money. The whole system is designed to make us fail I swear!!! 😡😡😡

•Oh no, that sounds awful! How long did it take you to get it fixed? I'm getting worried now...

•Honestly it was like 3 weeks of pure hell. I kept calling and they kept saying "it's being processed" but nobody would actually DO anything. Finally I went to my state rep's office and they made some calls and magically it was fixed the next day. So if calling Treasury doesn't work definitely contact your state representative!!!

Update for anyone reading this thread later: As of March 2025, PA UC has implemented a new system where banking flags can now be resolved through your dashboard on the UC portal. Look for "Payment Method Issues" under the "My Benefits" tab, and you can electronically verify your identity and confirm your payment method. This often resolves these types of flags within 24-48 hours without calling. However, for urgent matters like the OP's situation, calling is still recommended.

•Thanks for this update! I actually just got off the phone with Treasury and they were super helpful. They removed the banking flag and confirmed my payments will go to my Money Network card within 2 business days. For anyone with a similar issue - definitely call them directly, it only took about 20 minutes once I got through!
