PA UC new claim after benefit year end - Money Network card vs. old ReliaCard question
So my benefit year just ended yesterday and I had to file a new PA UC claim this morning (what a headache that was). My question is about the payment method. I've been receiving my payments on my ReliaCard for my previous claim, but I've heard rumors that PA doesn't use ReliaCard anymore and switched to some Money Network card? I never got a new card in the mail or anything. Will my new claim payments automatically go to my old ReliaCard, or will they mail me a new Money Network card? I really don't want to wait weeks for a new card if they're sending one. Anyone deal with this situation recently? I need to plan ahead for bills coming due next week.

PA UC switched from ReliaCard to Money Network in mid-2024. If you've never received a Money Network card before, they'll automatically mail you one when your new claim is approved. Your old ReliaCard won't receive new payments. The good news is they usually ship the cards pretty quickly - mine arrived in about 5-7 business days. You can also set up direct deposit instead through your dashboard if you want to avoid the card altogether.

•Ugh that's what I was afraid of! So there's no way around waiting for the new card? My rent is due on the 7th and I'm cutting it super close. Do you know if there's any way to expedite the Money Network card?

•Thanks, that's a relief to hear! Did they send you any kind of notification that they were mailing it, or did it just show up?

You should definitely set up direct deposit instead of waiting for the Money Network card. Log into your PA UC dashboard, go to Payment Method, and you can enter your bank account information there. It's much faster than waiting for the card, and you'll typically get your payment 1-2 days after it's approved. No more worrying about cards getting lost in the mail or having to transfer money to your main account.

•Direct deposit isnt always better! I had mine set up and they STILL sent me a money network card anyway. And then my payments were delayed for 3 weeks because of a "routing issue" with my bank. 🙄 The whole system is designed to make it as difficult as possible!!!

I was in your exact situation when my benefit year ended in April. Called PA UC to ask about my ReliaCard and whether I'd get a new Money Network card, but surprise surprise - couldn't get through to anyone after trying for 3 days straight! THEN I discovered Claimyr and finally got through to a PA UC rep in about 20 minutes. They confirmed they automatically send the Money Network card once your new claim is processed. You can see how it works at claimyr.com or check out this demo: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 - saved me hours of frustration!

•Thank you for the suggestion! I might try that if I don't see any updates by Friday. Did they tell you how long the card typically takes to arrive?

•Is this actually legit? Seems kinda sketchy paying to talk to someone at UC when its supposed to be a free government service?

Omg the Money Network cards are GARBAGE compared to ReliaCard!! The app freezes constantly, their customer service takes forever, and they charge fees for almost everything. I miss my ReliaCard so much. Just warning you so you're prepared for the downgrade. And yeah, they'll automatically mail you one after your claim is approved. Took mine about 8 business days to arrive.

Just wanted to follow up - did you end up getting your Money Network card or setting up direct deposit? Which worked better for you?

•I ended up doing both! Set up direct deposit right away, but my first payment actually hit the Money Network card that arrived 6 days after my claim was approved. For anyone else reading this in the future - definitely set up direct deposit right away if you're switching from ReliaCard to Money Network. The card will still come, but at least you have options for getting your money faster. Thanks everyone for the help!

Thanks for sharing the follow-up @Zara Ahmed! This is really helpful for anyone else going through the same transition. It sounds like having both options worked out well in the end. For future readers - it's good to know that even if you set up direct deposit, PA still sends the Money Network card automatically, so you're not stuck waiting if there are any issues with the bank transfer. The 6-day timeline for card delivery seems pretty consistent with what others have reported too.

•This whole thread is super helpful! I'm in a similar situation where my benefit year is ending soon and was wondering about the card transition. Good to know that PA sends the Money Network card automatically even with direct deposit set up - that's actually really smart since it gives you a backup option. The 6-day delivery seems reasonable too. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences!

Just went through this exact transition last month! Can confirm PA automatically sends the Money Network card when your new claim is approved - mine took exactly 7 business days to arrive. One tip that saved me: while waiting for the card, I called Money Network customer service directly (not PA UC) and they were able to give me the card number and security info over the phone once it shipped, so I could add it to my digital wallet and start using it for purchases before the physical card arrived. Might be worth trying if you're in a time crunch with bills!
