PA UC Money Network card delay - got check but no card yet. Normal?
Hey everyone, I'm a bit confused about my PA unemployment payments. I got my first UC check in the mail yesterday (yay!), but I was under the impression that benefits are supposed to come on a Money Network debit card? I filed my initial claim about 3 weeks ago and was approved last week. The check is for $782, but there was no information about when I might receive the card for future payments. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it normal to get a paper check first and then the card later? How long did it take for your Money Network card to arrive after your first payment? Starting to get anxious since my bills are piling up and I need to know how I'll get paid next week.

Yes, this is totally normal! When I went on unemployment in January, I got my first payment as a paper check and then received my Money Network card about 10 days later. They send the first payment as a check to get you money faster while they're processing your card. Just make sure you activate it as soon as it arrives - the instructions will come with the card. You'll get all future payments on the card unless you set up direct deposit through the PA UC portal.

•Oh thank you! That's a relief. Do you know if I need to do anything special to make sure future payments go onto the card? Or will that happen automatically once I activate it?

•Thanks for the info! 2 weeks seems like a long time though... hopefully mine comes sooner.

Same thing happened when I filed last year! First payment check, rest on card. Makes no sense why they don't just do direct deposit from day one but whatever. PA UC system living in the stone age as usual lol

Actually, you can set up direct deposit instead of waiting for the Money Network card if you prefer. Log into your PA UC account, go to 'Payment Information' and there should be an option to enter your bank info. I did this after I got my first check and never even activated my card when it finally arrived. Direct deposit is much faster - usually hits my account 1-2 days after I file my weekly claim.

•That's really helpful, I'd much rather have direct deposit. I'll check that out tonight when I get home. Thanks!

THEY NEVER SENT MY CARD AT ALL!!! I got a check then nothing for weeks, called and called but always busy signals. Three weeks of benefits just sitting there and I couldn't access them!!! Finally had to file a complaint with my state rep to get anyone to help me. The UC office is a DISASTER since covid. Don't assume your card is coming - CALL THEM NOW!!

•Have you tried Claimyr to get through to PA UC? I was in a similar situation with benefits issues and couldn't get anyone on the phone. I used claimyr.com and they got me connected to an actual person at UC in about 15 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 - way better than calling for hours. The agent told me my card had been sent to an old address, so they issued a new one.

Let me clarify what's happening with your payment method: 1. First payment is always issued as a paper check (unless you've already set up direct deposit before being approved) 2. The Money Network card is automatically mailed after your claim is approved 3. Standard delivery time is 7-10 business days, but can take up to 15 days with current mail delays 4. All subsequent payments will go to the card UNLESS you set up direct deposit You don't need to do anything special to get payments on your card once it arrives other than activate it. However, direct deposit is generally more convenient. You can set that up in your dashboard under Payment Information → Update Payment Type → Direct Deposit. You'll need your routing and account numbers. If your card doesn't arrive within 15 business days of your first payment, call the UC Service Center to request a replacement. Yes, getting through is difficult, but persistence pays off.

•This is exactly what I needed to know! I appreciate the detailed explanation. I'll wait another week before I start to worry. And I'll definitely set up direct deposit once I get into the system tonight.

One time my neighbor got my card by mistake! Check with your neighbors if it doesn't show up soon. The envelopes are pretty plain.

•Oh no, I hadn't even thought of that! I'll keep an eye out. I live in an apartment building so mail mix-ups happen.

Hey, just checking in - did your card ever arrive? I'm just curious because I remember when I was waiting for mine, it felt like forever.

•It came yesterday actually! Took exactly 8 business days after I got the check. Already activated it, but I also set up direct deposit like some folks suggested here. The UC agent I spoke with said my next payment will go to my bank account instead of the card. Thanks for checking in!

Glad to hear your card finally showed up! That's a pretty typical timeline from what I've seen. Direct deposit is definitely the way to go - I've been using it for months now and it's so much more reliable than waiting for cards or checks. Just a heads up though, make sure to keep that Money Network card somewhere safe even if you're not using it. Sometimes there are system glitches and payments randomly go back to the card method, so you'll want to have it activated just in case.

•That's really good advice about keeping the card! I hadn't thought about system glitches potentially switching the payment method back. I'll definitely keep it activated and in a safe place. Better to be prepared than caught off guard if something goes wrong with the direct deposit. Thanks for the tip!
