PA UC green thermometer status tracker disappeared from dashboard - normal or glitch?
Hey everyone, I'm freaking out a little and hoping someone can help. So I filed my PA unemployment claim about 2 weeks ago and was checking my dashboard regularly. There used to be this green thermometer showing the 4 steps of my claim status (1-2-3-4), and last time I checked it was on step 3 'under review'. But when I logged in yesterday and today, the thermometer is completely GONE from my dashboard! Has anyone else experienced this? Is this normal or did something go wrong with my claim? Does it mean they rejected me or is it just a website glitch? I've been checking like 5 times a day and getting more anxious each time.

•Really?? That's such a relief to hear. Did you do anything special or just wait it out? I'm so stressed about this.

I think when the thermometer disappears it means they made a decision but haven't updated your status yet. When did you do your initial interview? Sometimes they approve right after that and it takes the system a day or two to catch up.

•I haven't had an interview yet! That's what's confusing me. All I did was submit the application and upload my ID verification through IDme.

The disappearing thermometer usually indicates one of three things: 1. Your claim is transitioning to a new status and the visual indicator is refreshing 2. There's a technical issue with the dashboard display 3. A determination has been made and your status will update soon In most cases, it's not a reason to worry. The PA UC system updates overnight between 3-5 AM, so check tomorrow morning. If you're concerned, you should try calling the UC service center to verify your claim status directly. The thermometer is just a visual aid and doesn't always accurately reflect your actual claim status in the system.

•Thank you for the detailed explanation! I'll check first thing tomorrow morning. If it's still not showing up, I'll try calling, though I've heard it's almost impossible to get through to them on the phone.

THE PA UNEMPLOYMENT WEBSITE IS A JOKE!!! I've had the thermometer disappear, reappear, show wrong info, everything. Don't trust anything you see on that site. My thermometer showed step 2 for WEEKS after I was already receiving payments! The ONLY way to get real info is to talk to a human being on the phone, and good luck with THAT nightmare!!

•Yep, tried calling UC for 2 weeks straight when my benefits stopped suddenly. Busy signal every single time. Finally used Claimyr.com to get through - it was worth it just to stop the constant redial madness. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2. Got connected to an agent in about 20 minutes who fixed my issue right away. The thermometer stuff is definitely misleading sometimes.

•Oh no, now I'm worried again. I'm pretty sure I entered everything correctly, but maybe I should check. Was there any warning before your claim was denied?

I had this exact issue in January 2025. The thermometer disappeared from my dashboard after being on step 3 for about a week. I called the UC service center (took forever to get through) and they told me it sometimes happens when your claim is moving from review to determination stage. In my case, it reappeared two days later showing step 4, and I got my approval letter in the mail the next day. Don't panic about the visual elements on the website - they're not always reliable indicators. The important thing is what your claim status actually says in the system, which only a representative can tell you for certain. If your dashboard shows any messages in the notification area or any correspondence in your UC mailbox, check those for updates as well.

•Thank you! I'll check my UC mailbox now - I didn't even think about looking there. I appreciate everyone's help and feel a bit calmer now. If nothing changes by Friday, I might try that Claimyr service someone mentioned to get through to a rep.

My brother works in IT and says the whole PA unemployment system runs on ancient software that breaks all the time. The thermometer is just a graphic that sometimes doesn't load right. Probably nothing to worry about honestly

Wait, are you still able to file your weekly claims even though the thermometer is gone? That's usually a good sign that your claim is still active in the system.

•I haven't been able to file weekly claims yet since my initial application is still being processed (or at least that's what I thought). The system told me I couldn't file until my initial claim was approved.

Just to clarify a common misconception - in Pennsylvania, you should begin filing your weekly certifications immediately after submitting your initial application, even before approval. You don't need to wait for your initial claim to be approved first. The system will hold those weekly certifications until your claim is processed, and then release payments for eligible weeks. If you haven't been filing weekly claims while waiting for your initial claim determination, you should start immediately and may need to file for back weeks. This is a frequent mistake that causes payment delays.

•Wait, seriously?? The instructions weren't clear about that at all! I thought I had to wait for approval first. I'm going to log in right now and see if I can file for the past two weeks. Thank you so much for telling me this!

Regarding the thermometer disappearing - I just checked with a friend who works at the PA UC office (not officially speaking for them). She said they actually rolled out a small website update last week that's been causing the thermometer to disappear for some users. It's a known issue they're working on fixing. So in your case, it's likely just a display glitch rather than anything wrong with your claim.

•UPDATE: You all were right! The thermometer reappeared this morning showing step 4 (approved), and I had a determination letter in my UC mailbox dated yesterday. And I was able to file for my back weeks too. Thank you everyone for helping calm me down during my mini-panic!
