PA UC appeal marked valid but no hearing date scheduled after 2+ weeks - what's going on?
So confused about my unemployment appeal right now. It got marked as 'valid' on August 15th and the status says 'waiting for a decision to be written' and that 'information from my hearing is being considered.' But here's the weird part - I haven't even HAD a hearing yet! No notification, no letter, nothing. It's been 17 days since my appeal was marked valid and I'm completely in the dark about when my hearing will be scheduled. Is the system messed up or am I missing something? Has anyone else seen this status before actually having their hearing? I'm getting really anxious since my rent is due soon and I need to know if/when I'll get benefits.

OMG this EXACT same thing happened to me back in June!!! The online system is TOTALLY broken and shows incorrect statuses ALL THE TIME. I waited 4 weeks with that same message before I finally got my hearing notice in the mail. It's ridiculous how they can't even get their stupid system to show the right information!!! PA UC is the WORST!

•4 WEEKS??? I can't wait that long! Did you try calling them at all during that time?

This actually sounds like a system error. The status you're seeing typically only appears AFTER a hearing has occurred. What type of appeal did you file? If it's for a monetary determination, sometimes they make decisions without hearings, but for most other types (misconduct, voluntary quit, etc.), they always schedule hearings. You should definitely contact UC to clarify this situation.

•It's an appeal for a voluntary quit denial - they said I didn't have a necessary reason but I definitely did (unsafe working conditions). I've been trying to call but keep getting busy signals or disconnected.

When I had my appeal last year for a voluntary quit situation (which was approved btw), I had to wait about 35 days between the appeal being marked valid and actually getting my hearing date. The online system showed all kinds of weird statuses during that time. What I found helpful was keeping a paper trail of everything - screenshots of status changes, notes from any phone calls, etc. Just in case you need to prove later that there were errors in their communication.

•Thanks for the advice about keeping screenshots! I'll start doing that right away. 35 days is such a long wait though... did they backpay you for all those weeks once you won?

After dealing with the nightmare of trying to reach PA Unemployment for weeks about a similar issue (appeal status showing incorrectly), I finally got through using Claimyr. It's this service that calls PA UC for you and connects you directly to an agent - saved me hours of busy signals and disconnections. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2. When I finally got through, the agent confirmed my system status was wrong and fixed it right away. For appeals especially, it's worth making sure the info in the system is correct.

•Is that service actually legit? I'm always skeptical about third-party services for government stuff.

•Yes, it's legitimate. They don't handle any of your UC account information - they just connect your call to an actual PA UC representative. I was skeptical too, but after weeks of not getting through, it was worth it to finally speak to someone who could fix my appeal status.

my brother in law works for uc (not in appeals tho) and he says theyre SUPER backed up right now. like way more than usual for summer. he said hearing wait times are around 6-8 weeks minimum right now even tho theyre supposed to be like 3-4. the system showing weird stuff is probly cuz they entered something wrong when they were processing your appeal paperwork

•Ugh that's what I was afraid of. I don't know how I'm supposed to survive 6-8 weeks with no income. This system is broken.

Voluntary quit appeals definitely require hearings, especially if the dispute is about whether your reason (unsafe conditions) qualifies as a necessitous and compelling reason to quit. What I'd recommend: 1. Keep filing your weekly claims even while waiting for the appeal - if you win, you'll get backpay 2. Contact UC to correct the status error - they can probably see the actual hearing schedule date in their system 3. Check your mail very carefully (including spam folders if you get notices electronically) - hearing notices sometimes arrive with little advance notice 4. Start gathering evidence for your unsafe conditions claim - documentation, witness statements, photos, etc. And yes, they will backpay from the date you first filed if your appeal is successful.

•Thank you so much for this detailed advice. I do have photos and texts documenting the unsafe conditions, plus a doctor's note about my allergic reaction to the chemicals they were using. Should I mail these in now or wait for the hearing?

Wait for the hearing notice before sending in evidence. The notice will have specific instructions on how and when to submit your documentation. If you send it in randomly before the hearing is scheduled, it might get lost in the shuffle. And yes, they absolutely will backpay you from when you first filed if you win the appeal. The only catch is you MUST keep filing your weekly claims during the entire appeal process - even with no payments coming in. That's something many people miss and then they can't get those weeks even if they win.

•This happened to my cousin! He won his appeal but forgot to file for like 6 weeks during the process so he only got paid from when he started filing again. Lost out on thousands :

Update: I finally got through to someone at UC this morning (took almost 2 hours of redials). The rep confirmed there IS a system error - my appeal is actually still in the queue waiting for a hearing to be scheduled. She said the current wait time for hearings is 7-9 weeks from when the appeal is marked valid. She's going to correct the status in the system so it doesn't show the wrong information. Thanks everyone for your help and advice!

•So glad you got through and got clarity! Make sure to write down the name of the rep you spoke with and the date/time of the call. And remember to keep filing those weekly claims!
