PA UC appeal submission to hearing date - how long is the wait?

I submitted my appeal for PA unemployment benefits about 10 days ago after getting denied (apparently my employer contested my claim saying I voluntarily quit, which is absolutely NOT true). The confirmation page said I'd get a notice with a hearing date, but I haven't received anything yet. Getting really anxious because bills are stacking up. Does anyone know approximately how long it takes for them to schedule an appeal hearing these days? Is there any way to check the status of my appeal online? The waiting and uncertainty is killing me!

2 MONTHS??? Omg that's terrifying. Did you try calling them to check on it?

Unfortunately, the wait time for PA UC appeals can vary quite a bit. In my experience (appealed last year), it took about 6-8 weeks to get my hearing date. The notice came by mail and email. Make sure you're checking both regularly. You can't check appeal status online currently, but you should keep filing your weekly claims during this waiting period! That way if you win your appeal, you'll get all that back pay without interruption.

Thank you for the helpful info! I've been filing weekly claims but wasn't sure if that was the right thing to do. 6-8 weeks feels like forever when you're waiting for money, but at least now I have a timeframe to expect.

YES! Keep filing those weekly claims no matter what! I made the mistake of stopping and lost out on about $2500 when I won my appeal!!! Biggest regret ever.

My brother just went through this and got his hearing date after 5 weeks. They sent it through regular mail so keep an eye on your mailbox. Good luck!

The average wait time right now is around 7-9 weeks according to what the PA UC representative told me when I finally reached someone. Appeals are handled in the order received, but they're definitely backed up. One thing I highly recommend is trying to reach a live representative to confirm they actually received your appeal and that it's in the system. I've seen cases where appeals were submitted but somehow not recorded in their system. I was having the WORST time getting through on the phone (busy signals for weeks!) until I tried Claimyr - it got me through to a UC rep in about 30 minutes. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 Just having confirmation that your appeal is in the system will give you some peace of mind during the wait.

Thank you! I didn't even think about the possibility that my appeal might not be in their system. That would be a nightmare. I'll definitely look into that service because I've been trying to call for days and can't get through at all.

JUST A WARNING: make sure you have ALL your evidence ready before the hearing! I lost my case because I didn't have enough documentation proving I was laid off rather than quit. The burden of proof is mostly on YOU not your employer!! Get witness statements, emails, anything showing you didn't quit voluntarily.

That's really good advice! I have some text messages and emails that show they reduced my hours to almost nothing before I left. Hopefully that helps my case.

Just to update what I said earlier - while most appeals are taking 6-8 weeks, if your case is straightforward (clear documentation, etc.), it might be processed faster. Also, make sure you're available at the phone number you provided on your appeal form. They sometimes call to clarify details before scheduling the actual hearing. Missing that call can delay things further. During this waiting period, I'd recommend organizing all your employment documents, including: - Final pay stub - Any communication about your separation - Performance reviews (if positive) - Work schedule changes - Any witnesses who can testify about your work situation Having everything ready will make the hearing process smoother when it finally happens.

Thank you so much for all this advice! I'll start gathering everything now so I'm prepared. Really appreciate everyone's help here - at least I know what to expect now.
