PA UC appeal hearing timeframe - applied 12/20 but still no date?
I've been stressing about my unemployment situation since December. My PA UC claim was denied on December 20th, 2022, and I immediately filed an appeal that same day. It's been several weeks now and I haven't heard ANYTHING about when my hearing might be scheduled. The online portal shows nothing new. Does anyone know how long this process typically takes? I'm getting worried because my savings are almost gone and I really need this resolved. Should I call them or just keep waiting? I was told appeals can take a while but this seems excessive...

omg mine took FOREVER. I filed my appeal in January and didn't get a hearing date until late March. The system is completly overloaded right now. Keep checking your mail everyday because they don't always update the online portal.

•Thanks for sharing your experience. That's what I was afraid of... Did they backpay you for all those weeks once you won your appeal?

Appeals are currently taking 8-12 weeks to schedule in Pennsylvania. This is longer than pre-pandemic timeframes due to a backlog of cases. Make sure you've provided all requested documentation with your appeal. If you haven't received an acknowledgment letter confirming they received your appeal, that could be concerning - you should have gotten that within 2 weeks of filing the appeal.

•I did get a letter confirming they received my appeal about 10 days after I submitted it. I guess I just need to be more patient... it's just so stressful not knowing when this will be resolved.

•Oh! I didn't know that. I stopped filing after the denial. Does that mean I've missed out on those weeks now?

•The previous commenter is correct - you should continue filing weekly claims while your appeal is pending. However, there's a provision that allows you to backfile missed weeks if you win your appeal. Contact the UC office as soon as possible to explain the situation and ask about filing for those missed weeks. They may allow it depending on your circumstances.

When my cousin got denied last year his hearing was scheduled almost 4 months later! But then his employer didn't show up so he automatically won. The whole system is ridiculous if you ask me. Good luck!

I've been through this frustrating process too. After weeks of getting busy signals and disconnections trying to check on my appeal status, I found a service called Claimyr that got me through to PA UC in about 20 minutes. They basically call for you and connect you when an agent answers. Cost money but saved me days of frustration. Their site is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 - I was able to get an update on my appeal timeline and they confirmed they had all my documents.

•Thanks for the suggestion. I might try that if I don't hear anything in the next couple weeks. Did they give you any specific info when you finally got through to them?

I work as an employment counselor and can tell you that the PA appeal process is currently taking approximately 10-12 weeks from filing to scheduled hearing. The referee office is dealing with a significant backlog due to staffing shortages. Here's what you should do while waiting: 1. Continue filing weekly claims as mentioned above 2. Prepare any documentation that supports your case (pay stubs, communication with employer, etc.) 3. Make sure your contact information is current in the system 4. If it's been more than 12 weeks, you can contact your state representative's office - they often have liaisons who can inquire about delayed appeals When you do get your hearing notice, you'll typically have only 7-10 days advance notice, so check your mail frequently.

•Thank you so much for this detailed information! I'll start gathering my documentation now so I'm ready when the hearing is finally scheduled. I didn't know about the state representative option - I'll keep that in mind if this drags on much longer.

THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO MAKE YOU GIVE UP!!!! I waited 14 weeks for my hearing and then they CANCELED it the day before because the "referee was sick" and rescheduled for another MONTH later!!! Its a complete joke and nobody cares about us regular people trying to survive.

•This happened to my neighbor too! His hearing got rescheduled twice and took almost 5 months total. The system is definitely broken.

Update: I finally called the appeals office directly and they told me my hearing is tentatively scheduled for early March! That's about 10 weeks from when I filed the appeal. They said I should receive the official notice in the mail about a week before the actual hearing. Thanks everyone for your help and advice!

•Great news! Make sure to start preparing now. Review the reason for your denial and gather evidence that counters it. If you were denied for misconduct, bring documentation showing you followed company policy. If it was about availability for work, bring proof you're actively seeking employment. Having organized documentation makes a huge difference in these hearings.
