PA UC claim stuck in 'under review' status for 7 weeks - normal wait time?

I'm starting to really worry about my PA unemployment claim. It's been sitting in 'under review' status for almost 7 weeks now with absolutely no movement or updates. My rent is coming due again and I'm getting desperate. The bills are piling up fast. Has anyone else experienced such a long wait time? Is this normal for PA UC processing in 2025? I've tried calling multiple times but can't ever get through - just endless busy signals or getting disconnected. I'm not sure if I should keep waiting or if something's wrong with my claim. Any advice on how to check what's causing the delay or how to speed things up would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Mine took 9 weeks last month so ur probably fine. The system is super backed up and they dont tell u anything. Just keep filing your weekly claims so when it does get approved you'll get all the backpay at once.

Thanks for replying. 9 weeks?! That's insane. Did you ever find out why it took so long? I'm worried there might be something wrong with my application that I need to fix.

TYPICAL PA UC BUREAUCRACY!!! I waited 11 WEEKS last year before someone even LOOKED at my claim!!! Then they had the NERVE to tell me I had an "open issue" that could have been fixed in 5 minutes if anyone had bothered to call me!!! The whole system is designed to make you give up and stop claiming what you're ENTITLED TO!!!

What was your open issue about? I'm wondering if I might have the same problem since mine also says "under review" but doesn't specify any problems.

Seven weeks is unfortunately not unusual these days, especially if there's any kind of issue with your claim. "Under review" typically means there's something they need to verify, which could be employment history, separation reason, or income verification. You should be able to see if there are any specific issues by logging into your dashboard and looking under the "Claim Status" or "Issues and Determinations" section. Keep filing your weekly claims regardless of the status - this ensures you'll receive all eligible backpay when it's approved. Also, make sure you're completing all required work search activities each week and documenting them properly.

Thanks for this info. I checked and there's nothing specific listed under Issues and Determinations, just says "under review" with no explanation. I've been doing my work search activities but I'm starting to get really worried about money. Is there any way to find out what specifically they're reviewing or to talk to an actual person?

I was in a similar situation last month - stuck on review status for nearly 6 weeks. I finally managed to get through to a live agent using Claimyr (claimyr.com). It costs a bit but was totally worth it because they got me through to an actual UC rep in about 10 minutes when I'd been trying for weeks with no luck. The agent was able to see that my claim had a verification flag that needed to be cleared, and they fixed it right on the call. Got my payments the following week including all backpay. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2

Yes, I used it too! Worked exactly as described - saved me weeks of stress. Worth every penny when you're waiting on thousands in benefits.

Sometimes a claim gets stuck in review when there's missing information or your former employer is contesting something. Have you received any mail from UC requesting additional information? Check your spam folder too, as sometimes their emails end up there. If you haven't already, try sending a message through the UC message center specifically asking what information they need to process your claim. Also, is this a new claim or a reopened one? Sometimes benefit year transitions cause longer delays.

It's a new claim, first time filing. I haven't received any mail or emails asking for more info (checked spam too). I did send a message through the message center about 2 weeks ago but haven't gotten any response. That's why I'm thinking something might be wrong but I have no way to find out what.

you should also check your dashboard to see if theres a message saying you need to verify your identity with ID.me. my claim was stuck for weeks bcuz i missed that step and they never told me!!

I already did the ID.me verification when I first applied, so that should be good. But thanks for the suggestion!

If you've already tried messaging without a response, your best option is to speak with an agent directly. Pennsylvania's UC call center opens at 8:00 AM, and your best chance of getting through is calling exactly at opening time. Be prepared with your claim information and social security number. You might also try contacting your state representative's office - they often have liaisons who can help expedite unemployment issues. If there's a specific issue with your claim, the agent can tell you what documentation or information is needed to resolve it. Sometimes it's as simple as needing to verify wages from a specific quarter or clarifying information about your separation from employment.

HAHAHA good luck getting through at 8AM!!! I tried that EVERY DAY for TWO WEEKS straight!!! Always busy or disconnected!!! The whole "call at 8AM" advice is USELESS with how understaffed they are!!!

After using Claimyr to finally speak with someone, I learned that claims under review for 6+ weeks often have a specific issue that needs addressing. In my case, they needed additional income verification because I had worked in two states during my base year. The frustrating part was that there was no notification about this - the claim just sat there. Once I got through to someone and provided what they needed, my claim was processed within days. Whatever service you use to reach them, make sure to specifically ask: 1) What's causing the delay, 2) What documentation they need, and 3) How to submit it properly. Get the agent's ID number too, in case you need to reference the call later.

Thank you for the detailed advice. I'm going to try reaching them tomorrow morning one more time, and if that doesn't work, I'll probably try the Claimyr service. Those specific questions to ask are really helpful - I'll make sure to write them down before I call. I'm feeling a bit more hopeful now that there's a path forward.

Good news - in most cases, even with these frustrating delays, claimants do eventually receive all eligible back weeks once approved. Just make absolutely certain you're filing your weekly certifications on time, every week, even while waiting for the initial claim decision. I've seen too many people miss out on weeks of benefits because they stopped filing while waiting for approval. Also, document all your work search activities meticulously. If your claim is under review and then gets approved, they might audit your work search efforts before releasing payment.

Thanks for the reassurance. I have been filing every week and keeping detailed records of my job search activities. I've applied to over 25 jobs in the past 7 weeks, so I should be good on that front. I just hope they approve it soon because my savings are almost completely gone at this point.

I'm going through the exact same thing right now - 6 weeks and counting in "under review" status. It's incredibly stressful when you're relying on these benefits to pay rent and bills. From what I've read here and experienced myself, it seems like PA UC is severely backlogged and they're not great at communicating what's causing delays. I've been filing my weekly claims religiously and keeping detailed work search records just in case. The waiting is brutal but it sounds like most people eventually get approved with full backpay. Hang in there - you're definitely not alone in this struggle!

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! It's somewhat comforting to know I'm not the only one dealing with this nightmare. 6 weeks is still a long time though - have you tried any of the suggestions people mentioned here like calling at 8AM or using that Claimyr service? I'm really considering trying the Claimyr thing at this point because I'm getting desperate. The stress of not knowing what's happening with my claim is almost worse than the financial stress. Really hoping both of us get some good news soon!

I'm in week 5 of "under review" status myself, so I really feel your pain. The financial stress is overwhelming when you're counting on these benefits. I tried calling at 8AM sharp multiple times but could never get through - just busy signals like everyone else mentioned. What's really frustrating is having no idea what they're actually reviewing or how much longer it might take. I've been keeping up with my weekly filings and work search requirements, but the uncertainty is killing me. At least it's reassuring to hear from others that most people do eventually get approved with full backpay. Stay strong - hopefully we'll both get some movement on our claims soon!

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this too! Week 5 is rough - I can totally relate to that financial anxiety and the complete lack of communication from PA UC. It's maddening not knowing if there's actually an issue with our claims or if they're just overwhelmed. I've been considering that Claimyr service that @Skylar Neal mentioned since traditional calling seems impossible. Have you looked into contacting your state rep s'office like @Molly Hansen suggested? I m running'out of options and getting really desperate. Fingers crossed we both hear something positive soon - this waiting game is brutal!

I'm currently on week 3 of "under review" status and this thread is both helpful and terrifying! Reading that some of you waited 8-11 weeks is making my anxiety spike, but it's also reassuring to know that people do eventually get approved with full backpay. I've been religious about filing my weekly claims and doing my work search activities, but the complete lack of communication from PA UC is maddening. You'd think after 7 weeks they could at least send an automated update saying "still processing" or something. @Owen Devar I really hope you get some answers soon - your situation sounds incredibly stressful. I'm definitely going to try some of these suggestions like calling right at 8AM and maybe looking into that Claimyr service if I get desperate enough. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences, it helps to know we're not alone in this bureaucratic nightmare!

@Kevin Bell I totally understand that anxiety! Week 3 feels overwhelming, so I can t'imagine how you ll'feel if it drags on much longer. The lack of communication really is the worst part - you d'think they could at least give us some kind of status update or estimated timeline. I m'definitely going to try calling right at 8AM tomorrow like @Molly Hansen suggested, and if that doesn t work'I m seriously'considering the Claimyr option that @Skylar Neal mentioned. At least from reading everyone s experiences here,'it seems like most people do eventually get their benefits with full backpay, which gives me some hope. Hang in there and keep filing those weekly claims - hopefully all of us stuck in this limbo will get some good news soon!

I'm currently dealing with the exact same situation - week 8 of "under review" status and absolutely no updates from PA UC. The financial stress is unreal, especially when you're watching bills pile up with no idea when (or if) you'll get approved. What's helped me stay somewhat sane is setting up a strict budget using whatever savings I have left and applying for emergency assistance programs in my area. I've also been documenting EVERYTHING - screenshots of my claim status, copies of all weekly filings, detailed work search logs - just in case there are any issues when they finally process it. The waiting is brutal but from everyone's experiences here, it seems like persistence pays off eventually. Keep filing those weekly claims no matter what - that backpay could be a lifesaver when it finally comes through. Hang in there!

@Mei Lin Week 8 sounds absolutely exhausting - I m'really sorry you re'dealing with this for so long! Your advice about documenting everything is really smart, I should probably be doing more of that myself. I ve'been taking screenshots but not as systematically as I should. The emergency assistance programs idea is also really helpful - I hadn t'thought about looking into those. Do you mind me asking what kind of programs you found in your area? I m'in a pretty desperate situation financially and could use any help I can get while waiting for this claim to finally get processed. Thanks for sharing your experience and the practical advice - it s'reassuring to hear from someone who s'made it this far through the process!

I'm so sorry you're going through this stress - the waiting is absolutely brutal when you're depending on these benefits. I went through something similar last year where my claim sat in "under review" for 6 weeks. What finally worked for me was calling the UC office repeatedly using a redial app on my phone starting at exactly 7:58 AM. It took about 45 minutes of constant redialing but I finally got through to someone who could see that my claim was flagged for income verification from a previous employer. Once I provided the documents they needed, it was approved within 3 days and I got all the backpay. Don't give up on calling - it's frustrating but sometimes that's the only way to find out what's actually holding up your claim. Also make sure to check if there are any document upload requests in your online portal that you might have missed. Keep filing those weekly claims no matter what!

@Kaitlyn Otto Thank you for sharing your experience! Your redial app strategy is brilliant - I never thought of using an app to keep calling automatically. 45 minutes of redialing sounds tedious but totally worth it if it actually gets you through to someone. I m'definitely going to try that tomorrow morning starting at 7:58 AM like you suggested. It s'encouraging to hear that once you got through and provided the documents they needed, it only took 3 days to approve! That gives me hope that my situation might resolve quickly too once I can actually talk to someone. I ve'been checking my online portal obsessively but haven t'seen any document upload requests - just the same under "review status" with no explanation. Really appreciate the practical advice and the reminder to keep filing weekly claims. Hopefully I ll'have some good news to share soon!
