PA UC claim stuck 'under review' since mid-March - normal wait time?

Filed for PA unemployment in mid-March (about 5 weeks ago now) and my claim status has been saying 'under review' this whole time. No explanation online, no updates, nothing. Getting really worried because savings are almost gone and I have rent due next week. Is this normal for PA UC claims right now? Anyone know typical wait times for claim approval? I've tried calling dozens of times but just get the busy signal or disconnected. Starting to panic a little...

6 weeks?? OMG I can't wait that long. Did you do anything to speed it up or just had to wait it out?

Unfortunately, this is becoming increasingly common in PA. The 'under review' status typically means they're verifying information with your employer or checking for eligibility issues. Standard processing is supposed to be 2-3 weeks, but many claims are taking 4-8 weeks right now. A few things to try:\n\n1. Check if your employer responded to the claim verification\n2. Look for any correspondence in your dashboard (sometimes they need more info but don't notify you)\n3. Make sure your identity verification is complete if they requested it\n4. Keep filing your weekly claims even while waiting for approval

Thanks for this info. I have been filing weekly claims, but how do I check if my employer responded? I don't see anything like that in my portal.

Yes it's legit! It basically keeps redialing PA UC for you. When I used it in January it took about 22 minutes to get through. Way better than the weeks I spent trying on my own getting busy signals.

PA UC claims that go 'under review' usually have a specific issue that needs to be addressed. Common reasons include:\n\n- Employer contesting the claim\n- Wage verification needed\n- Identity verification issues\n- Separation reason needs clarification\n- Previous overpayment or fraud detection flags\n\nYou need to know WHAT is causing the hold-up before you can address it. Keep filing weekly claims while waiting. Check your dashboard for any correspondence - sometimes they request additional information without notifying you by email or phone. \n\nIf it's been over 4 weeks, I strongly recommend getting through to a representative. Regular waiting would be 2-3 weeks max for a straightforward claim.

This is really helpful, thank you. How do I know which of these issues is affecting my claim? There's nothing in my dashboard showing what the problem is.

I had to wait 5 weeks for mine too... its soooo frustrating! The UC website said something about how claims filed in first quarter of 2025 are being delayed because of system updates or some BS excuse. but like we still need to PAY BILLS while they \

Just checked there - nothing in determination letters section either. Just blank. It's like my claim went into a black hole.

I don't see anything under Issues and Determinations either - it just shows my basic claim info. I'm really starting to worry that there's some kind of technical glitch with my claim. Will definitely try to get through to a rep somehow.

my cousins friend works for the unemployment office (not in PA but still) and said they're waaay behind on processing right now. like thousands of claims behind! my claim took 4 weeks and i thought THAT was bad. guess its normal now??? system is broken.

Update on my situation - I used Claimyr and finally got through to a UC agent this morning. Turns out my employer actually DID respond but they needed additional income verification from them. The agent sent a follow-up request and told me it should be resolved within 7-10 days. They also gave me the exact reason for the delay which wasn't showing anywhere on my portal! Worth the call for sure.

That's great! I'm going to try getting through this week. I can't believe they don't show you the actual reason for the delay online - what's the point of the online system if the important info isn't even there?

To directly answer your question: No, 5+ weeks isn't normal for a routine claim, but it has unfortunately become common due to staffing issues and increased claim volumes. \n\nOver 60% of claims that get stuck have one of these issues:\n\n1. Employer verification problems\n2. Identity verification incomplete\n3. Previous benefit year issues\n4. Wage discrepancies\n5. Separation reason questions\n\nMaking contact with a representative is really the best path forward at this point. They can see the specific issue affecting your claim and often resolve it during the call. Don't wait another week - your financial situation sounds urgent.

Thank you. You're right - I can't afford to wait another week. Will try calling first thing tomorrow morning and if that doesn't work, I'll try the Claimyr service others mentioned.

That's great advice, thank you! I'll definitely stay on the line until they confirm it's actually being fixed.

I'd like to add that once your claim is approved, you should receive backpay for all eligible weeks you've certified for. Make sure you've been filing your weekly certifications even while waiting for approval. \n\nAlso, prepare documentation before calling:\n- Your Social Security number\n- Your PIN\n- Employment history details (last day worked, reason for separation)\n- Any correspondence reference numbers\n\nHaving this information ready will make the call more efficient and increase your chances of resolution during a single call.
