PA UC claim under review for 8 weeks - NJ resident working in PA can't reach anyone!
I'm really stressing out right now. I live in New Jersey but worked in Pennsylvania, so I filed for PA unemployment benefits about 8 weeks ago (was told you file where you worked, not where you live). My claim has been stuck in "under review" status this ENTIRE TIME! I haven't received a single piece of mail about my claim, can't get any updates online other than seeing it's still "under review," and calling the UC service center is impossible - just busy signals or getting disconnected. I've tried calling at different times of day but nothing works. Does anyone have any advice on how to actually reach a human being at PA unemployment? I'm getting desperate as my savings are almost gone. Has anyone else dealt with cross-state claims taking this long?

I had this exact same issue last yr. 10 weeks with no update and nothing in the mail. PA UC is sooooo backed up and the interstate claims take forever bc they have to verify everything with NJ too. keep trying to reach them, try exactly at 8:00 am when they open.

•Thanks! Did you ever get through to anyone? Did they explain why it was taking so long?

Interstate claims with PA are always complicated. Your situation is correct - you file in the state where you worked (PA), not where you live (NJ). A few things to try: 1. Make sure you've completed your work search activities and are still filing your weekly certifications even though you're not receiving payments yet 2. Check if your PA UC dashboard shows any "open issues" - sometimes these aren't obvious but might be hidden in a section called "claim status" 3. Email the interstate claims unit directly at UCInterstate@pa.gov (include your claim number, last 4 of SSN, and detailed explanation) 4. Try the PA UC live chat feature on their website - sometimes it's easier to get through than phone Your claim is likely delayed because they're verifying your wages with your PA employer and possibly checking with NJ to ensure you're not filing in both states. This is frustrating but normal for interstate claims.

•Thank you so much for such detailed info! I've been doing my weekly certifications faithfully. I checked again and there's no specific "open issue" listed, just that general "under review" status. I'll try emailing that interstate unit today. I didn't even know that existed!

Have you tried using Claimyr? It helped me get through to PA unemployment when my claim was stuck for weeks. It basically calls for you and holds your place in line, then calls you when an agent is available. Saved me days of constant redialing. Their video explains it better than I can: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 - you can check them out at claimyr.com. Interstate claims definitely need agent intervention sometimes.

•does this Claimyr thing actually work? seems like it would be a scam. no way to get through to unemployment lol

•It's legitimate - they just use a system that keeps trying the unemployment line for you. I was skeptical too but it saved me from having to redial hundreds of times myself. After using it, I got through to an agent who cleared my interstate claim issue in one call.

•11 weeks?! That's insane but also weirdly reassuring that I'm not alone. Did you have to do anything special to finally get it moving?

The same thing happened when I filed PA unemployment but lived in Ohio. It's because PA has to verify with your employer AND with NJ that you're eligible. What most people don't know is that you should also go to your state rep's office! My cousin works for a state rep in PA and they have special contacts at UC who can help. Google your PA work address and find which state representative covers that area, then call their office and ask for help with your UC claim.

•That's brilliant advice! I never would have thought of contacting a state rep. Do I contact the rep for where my job was located in PA?

•Yes exactly! Find the PA state rep for where your job was located. Their offices deal with UC issues ALL THE TIME and have direct contacts. They can often get answers within days when you've been waiting months.

THE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO MAKE YOU GIVE UP!!!! I had to wait 14 WEEKS for my interstate claim and almost became homeless!!! They NEVER answer phones because they're DELIBERATELY understaffed! And half the employees don't even know how to process interstate claims properly! I filed an official complaint with PA Labor & Industry Secretary's office AND contacted my state senator before anything happened. DO NOT just wait - BE PERSISTENT!!!

•That's really scary to hear :( Did filing those complaints actually help speed things up? I'd try anything at this point!

•YES it did. The state senator's office called me back within 2 days and had someone from UC call me directly the next week. Suddenly my claim that had been "under review" for 3+ months was approved in 48 hours. DEFINITELY contact elected officials - it's the ONLY way to get results sometimes.

One other important thing to note: Make sure you've uploaded your ID verification through ID.me if prompted. Many interstate claims get stuck because of identity verification issues. Also, did you receive any confirmation when you initially filed your claim? There should have been some kind of confirmation number or email. If you didn't, it's possible your claim wasn't properly submitted despite what the system shows.

•I did complete the ID.me verification and got confirmation emails for both that and my initial claim submission. I've been keeping all emails and taking screenshots of my weekly certifications just to be safe. The system definitely shows my claim exists, just perpetually "under review."

•That's a good tip, I'll try calling late in the day tomorrow. I've mostly been trying mornings with no luck.

UPDATE: I tried that Claimyr service someone mentioned and actually got through to a PA UC rep today!!! They explained that my claim needed wage verification from both states. The rep put notes on my account and said it should be processed within 7-10 business days. They're also going to backdate all payments to my initial filing date. HUGE relief! Thanks everyone for the advice!

•Great news! Make sure to continue filing your weekly claims during this time. And if you don't see movement after the 10 business days, don't hesitate to try reaching out again. Glad you got some answers!
