PA UC Interstate claim approved but no payments after 5 weeks - runaround from agents?
Beyond frustrated with my PA unemployment situation! I got approved for an interstate claim (using wages from multiple states) back in January, and I'm STILL waiting for my first payment. It's been 5 weeks of filing weekly claims, and the system keeps saying everything is fine and that I should be receiving benefits, but my Money Network card remains empty. I've called PA UC almost daily for 3 weeks straight and keep getting different answers each time - one agent said it was a 'processing delay,' another blamed it on 'interstate verification,' and last week someone promised it would be fixed and I'd get paid by now (spoiler alert: nothing came through). I've requested supervisor callbacks FOUR separate times, and not once has anyone called me back despite two agents promising callbacks 'the same day.' I even contacted my state senator's office last week! What else can I possibly do at this point? Has anyone dealt with this interstate claim nightmare before? I'm drowning in bills here...

•7 WEEKS?? Ugh, that's even worse than what I'm dealing with. Did you do anything special to finally get it resolved, or did it just randomly start working one day?

Interstate claims are notoriously slow in the PA UC system because they require verification from multiple state systems. Here's what you need to do: 1. When you call, specifically ask if there are any "open issues" on your claim. That's the technical term for what might be holding up payment. 2. Request that they submit an "escalation ticket" - this is different from a supervisor callback and creates a paper trail. 3. Ask them to check if your interstate wages have been properly "combined and transferred" - sometimes this gets stuck between systems. 4. Document everything: agent ID numbers, dates of calls, and exactly what they promised. The state senator route was smart, but they often need 7-10 business days to get a response from UC.

•Thank you SO much for this detailed advice! I definitely wasn't using the right terminology. I'll call first thing tomorrow morning and specifically ask about open issues and the wage transfer status. I did get agent IDs for my last few calls but didn't think to ask about an escalation ticket. Really appreciate your help!

I had EXACTLY the same problem last month with my interstate claim between PA and Ohio. The UC reps kept giving me different stories every time I called. One would say everything looks fine, the next would say there was a system flag. I eventually got so desperate that I tried this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to a live agent in about 20 minutes instead of spending hours redialing. The trick was getting to someone who actually understood interstate claims. The agent I finally reached created an "expedited interstate wage investigation" and I got paid for all 6 weeks at once about 4 days later. There's a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 Between us, interstate claims are basically stuck in the 1990s when it comes to processing. The systems between states don't talk to each other automatically.

•is that service thing legit? seems sketchy to me... like why should we have to PAY to talk to unemployment when its our money to begin with??

I work in HR and deal with UC issues frequently. Interstate claims have a specific processing path within the PA UC system that most regular agents aren't even trained on. The key issue is that your money isn't missing - it's sitting in processing limbo. What's happening is your combined wage request (CWQ in their system) has been approved in principle, but there's likely a verification step between states that hasn't completed. Call and specifically request an "interstate claim specialist" - not all call centers have them but the larger ones do. If they say that's not possible, ask them to create an "interstate wage transfer verification" ticket instead. Also, make sure you've completed all your job search activities and documented them properly. Even one missing week can hold up everything in an interstate claim.

•Thank you for this insider perspective! I didn't even know interstate claim specialists existed. Will definitely ask for one tomorrow. And yes, I've been super careful about documenting my work searches each week (applying to at least 3 jobs and logging all the details). Fingers crossed this gets resolved soon.

I had a similar issue with my interstate claim between Pennsylvania and New Jersey last year. What finally worked for me was emailing uchelp@pa.gov with "INTERSTATE CLAIM PAYMENT DELAY - [Last 4 of SSN]" as the subject line. In the email, I included: - My full name - Last 4 of SSN - Phone number - Date I filed initial claim - All weeks I had claimed with no payment - States involved in my claim - Brief description of my situation I received a response within 3 business days from someone in the Interstate Unit, and my payments were released 2 days after that. They explained that my claim had been caught in what they called a "wage verification loop" between the two states. Keep filing your weekly claims in the meantime! Don't miss any weeks even though you're not getting paid yet.

•Thank you! I hadn't thought about trying email instead of just calling. I'll definitely send an email with all these details tonight. And yes, I've made sure to file every single week without missing any. Really appreciate the specific subject line advice - hopefully that helps get it to the right department.

My brother waited TWO MONTHS for his interstate claim to pay!! PA is the worst they just don't care about people struggling. Just wait till u get a real person on the phone and then REFUSE to hang up untill they fix it for real!! Don't let them transfer u eaither thats how they get rid of u. If ur senator doesn't help try calling ur state rep office instead sometimes they can help better.

•While persistence is important, refusing to hang up isn't the best approach and can actually backfire. Agents are required to end calls that become unproductive, and this approach could result in a note on your account. Instead, I recommend requesting a specific action (like an escalation ticket or interstate verification) that creates a trackable item in their system. This gives you something specific to follow up on in your next call.

Update: I called this morning and finally got someone helpful! Turns out there WAS an open issue on my claim - something called a "CWQ verification hold" that nobody had mentioned before. The agent created an expedited interstate review and said I should see movement within 7-10 days. She also gave me her direct extension to follow up next week if nothing changes. Thank you all for your advice - especially about asking for the right things using their terminology. Will update again when (hopefully) I get paid!

•That's great news! A CWQ verification hold is exactly what happened in my case too. Once they process the expedited review, you should see all your back payments get released at once. The fact that you got someone's direct extension is HUGE - that rarely happens. Definitely call that extension if you don't see movement in a week.
