PA UC claim stuck in review queue - realistic timeline for decision?

I'm going crazy with this waiting game. My PA unemployment claim has been 'in queue for review' for almost 3 weeks now after I got laid off from the manufacturing plant. I've got bills piling up and my savings are almost gone. When I check my dashboard it just shows the same status. Does anybody know how long these reviews typically take in 2025? Is there something I'm supposed to be doing to speed this up? I'm still filing my weekly claims like they told me to, but I'm starting to panic about making rent next month. Has anyone else dealt with this recently?

SIX WEEKS?? I can't wait that long! Did they backpay you for all those weeks once it was approved?

The queue times really depend on what triggered the review. If it's just standard verification, it's usually 3-4 weeks. If there's an employer dispute or eligibility issue, it can take 6-8 weeks. Make sure you've submitted all your ID verification through IDme - that's often what holds things up. And yes, they will backpay all weeks you've properly certified if approved.

I did the IDme verification right away. My employer didn't contest anything as far as I know - it was a plant closure affecting 200+ people. Is there any way to find out what kind of review it is?

my sister works for UC and she says theyre SUPER backed up right now because of all the tech layoffs that happened in January. if it was a mass layoff you should be fine but the system is just slow

She doesnt have access to individual claims lol she just processes the paperwork. she'd get fired for looking up random ppl

If your claim has been in queue for more than 3 weeks with no movement, I'd recommend trying to get through to a UC representative directly. They can often see notes on your claim that aren't visible to you in the portal. For mass layoffs, they should be processing these claims in batches, but sometimes individual claims get flagged for random verification or if there's any discrepancy in your employment dates/wages. I was stuck in a similar situation and finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to PA UC after trying for days with busy signals. They helped me connect with an agent who found my claim was flagged for a simple wage verification that wasn't showing on my portal. Got cleared up in minutes once I actually spoke to someone. You can see how it works here: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2

ANOTHER PERSON PROMOTING THIS SERVICE!! It's suspicious how many people mention this specific service on here. Has anyone actually used this successfully without getting scammed?

I waited 4 weeks for my review to complete then got disqualified because they said I didn't provide enough job search evidence even though I applied to 15 jobs! Now I'm in appeals which is ANOTHER 6-8 week wait they told me. The whole system is broken!!!

That's unfortunate, but appeals and initial reviews are two completely different processes. For the original poster, if this was a mass layoff situation, reviews are usually straightforward once they get to your claim. Just keep documenting your work searches carefully - you need 5 verifiable work search activities each week.

Update: I finally got through to someone at UC! Called right at 7:55am when they opened and only waited about 45 minutes. The rep told me my claim was flagged because my employer reported a slightly different last day than I did (I put my last physical day at work, they put the date of my final paycheck). She fixed it right there and said I should see movement within 3-5 business days. Thanks everyone for the advice!

Great news! That's exactly the type of minor discrepancy that can hold things up. Smart move calling right when they open - that's definitely the best strategy. Make sure to keep filing your weekly claims and you should receive all back payments once the claim is fully processed.

Congrats on getting it resolved! This is super helpful for everyone else waiting. I'm in a similar situation - been waiting about 2 weeks now and my claim just shows "in review" with no other details. Did the rep give you any insight into how backed up they are right now? I'm trying to decide if I should keep waiting or try calling like you did. The 45 minute wait time actually sounds pretty reasonable compared to some of the horror stories I've heard about getting through to UC.

I'd definitely recommend calling if you're at the 2 week mark! From what I've seen in this thread, it seems like a lot of claims get stuck on simple discrepancies that can be resolved quickly once you actually talk to someone. The 45 minute wait isn't too bad - I was expecting much worse based on all the complaints about busy signals. Just make sure to call right when they open at 8am, have your claim number ready, and be prepared to explain your situation clearly. Good luck!

I'm dealing with the exact same thing right now - been in review for almost 4 weeks after getting laid off from a retail chain that closed multiple locations. It's so frustrating seeing that same status every day! Reading through everyone's experiences here is really helpful though. Sounds like calling right at 8am is the way to go if you want to actually talk to someone. Has anyone had luck with the online chat feature or is calling really the only option? I'm worried about the same kind of date discrepancy issue that Connor had since my HR department was pretty disorganized during the layoffs.

The online chat is pretty much useless from what I've experienced - they can only see the same basic info you see in your portal. Calling is definitely your best bet. I tried the chat feature multiple times and they just kept telling me "your claim is in review, please continue filing weekly claims." At least on the phone they can actually access your full file and see what's holding things up. Given that you mentioned HR being disorganized, I'd bet money it's a date or wage discrepancy just like Connor's situation. Call first thing Monday morning!
