Will ny unemployment payments be delayed for Columbus Day next week?

Also, pro tip: many utility companies and landlords will work with you if you call BEFORE the payment is due, rather than after. Most offer a grace period if you communicate.

I asked this exact question last year lol. Yes the Columbus Day holiday will delay payments, but only by 1 day usually. NY unemployment still processes claims on holidays, but the BANKS don't process the transfers until the next business day.

called the ny unemployment helpline and after TWO HOURS on hold they told me that yes, Columbus Day will delay payments by one business day. So if you normally get paid Monday, expect Tuesday. If Tuesday, expect Wednesday, etc. Hope this helps someone else not waste their day on hold!

protip: if u have cashapp or chime, they sometimes release the pending deposits early even on holidays. Saved my butt during Memorial Day when regular banks were delayed.

Same boat happened during July 4th. My payment was delayed by TWO days not one like they claimed. Best advice is to call your billers ahead of time and explain. Most will give you an extension if you ask BEFORE the due date (not after).

i don't understand y everyone is so confused by this? federal holidays = banks closed = no direct deposits processed that day. its not rocket science ppl lol
