What does open status mean on NYS Department of Labor unemployment claim?
I just checked my claim status on the my.ny.gov portal and it shows 'open' but I'm not sure what that actually means. I filed my initial claim two weeks ago and have been filing my weekly claims but haven't received any payments yet. Does open status mean my claim is approved or just that it's being processed? How much can I make and still collect NYS Department of Labor unemployment benefits?
I just started a part-time job that pays about $200 per week and I'm still collecting unemployment. I'm worried I might be making too much and lose my benefits completely. Does anyone know what the earnings limit is for NYS Department of Labor? I've been trying to find clear information on their website but it's confusing. Just remember you still have to be available and looking for full-time work even if you're working part-time. Don't let the part-time job interfere with your job search requirements or they could disqualify you for not being available.
Good point! I'm still actively looking for full-time work. The part-time job is just to help with bills while I search.

ugh the my.ny.gov website is such a nightmare to navigate!! I spent like 3 hours trying to find the right application last month. Make sure you're going to the unemployment services section, not the general benefits area. And have all your info written down first because the session times out if you take too long filling it out.

Just wanted to add that you'll need to complete work search activities every week starting immediately, even during your waiting week. Keep detailed records of every job you apply to because they can audit your job search log at any time. Three work search activities per week minimum in most cases.
What counts as a work search activity? Just applying for jobs or other things too?
Job applications, attending job fairs, networking events, skills training, even creating professional profiles on LinkedIn can count. Just document everything with dates and details.
NYS Department of Labor claim shows disqualified status - what does this mean for unemployment benefits?
My unemployment claim was approved last month but now when I check my account it says 'disqualified' next to my most recent weekly claim. I haven't done anything different - still filing every week, still looking for work, haven't started any new job. What does disqualified mean exactly? UGH the whole system is so frustrating!!! I've been waiting 2 months for my adjudication to finish and can barely reach anyone at NYS Department of Labor. The phone lines are always busy and when you finally get through they just tell you to wait longer. It's like they WANT people to give up and stop trying to get benefits.

The whole system is a joke. Open status could mean anything - they just keep you guessing while your bills pile up. I've had open status for a month and still no payments because apparently they need to 'verify my employment history' even though I submitted everything they asked for.
