HEADS UP: ESD payments delayed one day due to October 14th bank holiday
Just a friendly PSA before the panic posts start flooding in tomorrow - ESD's website confirms that Monday, October 14th 2025 is a bank holiday (Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples' Day), which means unemployment payments will be delayed by ONE DAY. So if you normally get your payment on Monday, expect it Tuesday instead. Don't waste time calling ESD in a panic when your money doesn't show up Monday morning! Their automated systems will still process claims as usual, but the actual bank transfers won't happen until Tuesday because banks are closed on Monday. This happens every year but people always forget!

omg thank you SO MUCH for posting this!! i would've been freaking out tomorrow when my deposit wasnt there. i rely on that money for my rent payment which is due on the 15th so i always get nervous when theres any delay. does anyone know if all banks do this or just some of them??

•All banks observe federal holidays, so this affects everyone receiving ESD payments. If your rent is due on the 15th, you should still be fine since the payment will process on the 15th (Tuesday).

•You should talk to your landlord NOW instead of waiting till last minute. Most of them give grace periods for holidays anyway. I've been on UI three times and always give myself buffer days for exactly this reason.

I've seen this happen many times with ESD payments around holidays. Just to clarify, this only affects direct deposits and paper checks - it has nothing to do with when you file your weekly claim. You should STILL file your weekly claim on your regular schedule. The delay is only in when banks process the funds transfer from ESD to your account. Also worth noting that this delay can sometimes cascade - if you normally get paid on Tuesdays, you might not see funds until Wednesday this week. Plan accordingly!

•Yes, if you normally file on Sunday and get paid Wednesday, you'll likely get paid Thursday this week because of the bank holiday delay.

This is BS! Why dont they warn people about this? Some of us have bills auto-drafted on certain days and now I'll be hit with overdraft fees because ESD cant get their act together. Typical government inefficiency. The website should have a big BANNER about this delay.

•They actually do have this information posted on the ESD website under alerts and announcements. Federal holidays affect all banking transactions, not just unemployment benefits. It's not an ESD-specific issue.

•Then they need to make it MORE OBVIOUS. Not everyone has time to hunt through their confusing website. A text message alert would take them 5 seconds to send out to everyone.

I just went through this exact situation last month with Labor Day. Called ESD in a panic because my payment didn't show up when expected, waited on hold for TWO HOURS only to be told it was delayed due to the holiday. For anyone struggling to get through to ESD about this or any other issues, I discovered a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get through to an actual agent in under 25 minutes when I needed to fix an adjudication issue. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 - definitely saved me hours of frustration!

•Is this legit? Sounds too good to be true considering how impossible it is to reach ESD.

•It worked for me! I was skeptical too but I was desperate after trying for days to get through the regular way. They basically navigate the phone system and secure a spot in line for you, then call you when they have an agent.

Since we're on the topic of payment timing, here's a helpful reminder about ESD payment processing in general: 1) Weekly claims filed Sunday-Friday are usually processed the next business day 2) Direct deposits typically take 1-2 additional banking days to appear in your account 3) Federal holidays always delay processing by one business day 4) Bank holds can add additional delays (some banks hold ESD deposits for 24-48 hours) If you're cutting it close with bills, always file your weekly claim as early as possible in your filing window. Filing on Sunday vs Friday can make a significant difference in when you receive funds.

•do u know if u file on saturday when it gets processed? the esd website is so confusing about this

•Saturday filings are typically processed on Monday (or Tuesday if Monday is a holiday, like this week). ESD's processing system runs Sunday through Friday, so Saturday filings get rolled into Monday's processing batch.

This happens EVERY SINGLE HOLIDAY and people still act shocked lol. Like the banks have the same holidays every year, folks! Mark your calendars! Maybe if people spent less time complaining online and more time planning ahead this wouldn't be a crisis every holiday. Just saying.

•not everyone has been on unemployment before or knows all the bank holidays!! some of us are new to this system and its really confusing and scary when you depend on this money for basic needs :

•Fair enough, I forget sometimes that not everyone has been through this before. Here's a tip - google "federal banking holidays 2025" and mark them ALL on your calendar now so you're prepared for the whole year. Will save you a lot of stress!

For those who need to plan ahead, here are all the 2025 federal holidays that will affect ESD payment processing: - New Year's Day (January 1) - Martin Luther King Jr. Day (January 20) - Presidents Day (February 17) - Memorial Day (May 26) - Juneteenth (June 19) - Independence Day (July 4) - Labor Day (September 1) - Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples' Day (October 13) - Veterans Day (November 11) - Thanksgiving (November 27) - Christmas (December 25) For each of these, expect a one-day delay in your payment.

•Wow they get a LOT of paid holidays. Must be nice to work for the government while the rest of us struggle.

•This isn't about ESD staff having days off - it's about the Federal Reserve and banks being closed, which affects ALL financial transactions across the country, not just unemployment benefits.

•Yes, you'll still get paid. Your claim is already in the system if you filed yesterday. The payment will just arrive one day later than usual because of the bank holiday.
