Will my ny unemployment payment go to my new bank after updating direct deposit info yesterday?

I updated my direct deposit information yesterday morning to my new Chase account. My weekly certification was processed on Sunday and usually hits my old Bank of America account on Tuesday. Anyone know if the payment will go to my new account or still go to the old one? The website confirmed my direct deposit change but didn't tell me when it would take effect. I need this money for rent asap and really don't want to deal with delays or having to transfer between accounts.

Most likely it will still go to your old account. When I changed my direct deposit info it took about 2 payment cycles (2 weeks) for the new bank to start receiving the deposits. The website doesn't make this clear AT ALL which is super frustrating. Check your old account on Tuesday - thats probably where it'll be.

Ugh that sucks. Thanks for the heads up. At least my old account is still open so I can transfer it over.

can confirm this. changed mine last month and had to wait 2 weeks. ny unemployment system living in the stone age 🙄

Same experience here too. Their system runs on such old tech that these simple changes take forever to process. So ridiculous.

After failing to reach anyone on the phone for 3 days straight, I tried this service called claimyr.com and they actually got me connected to a live agent! Talking to the agent got my payments sorted out in minutes. Best decision I made after wasting hours getting nowhere with the regular phone line. They've got this YouTube video explaining how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

you serious? this actually works? seems kinda sketchy ngl

100% worked for me! I was super desperate after trying for days. They just connect you with a real agent - saved me so much time and frustration.

these 'miracle solutions' always sound too good to be true... anyone else actually try this?

I used it last month when my claim was stuck in limbo. Got through to someone in like 45 mins instead of spending days redialing. Talking to a human fixed everything.

seems like every other day someone's promoting some new 'solution' for unemployment issues... but I checked their site and it actually makes sense how they do it 🤔

I work for a bank (not in NY). Direct deposit changes typically take 1-2 payment cycles to process fully. This is because the payment file gets generated several days before the actual payment date. So if you changed it yesterday but the payment file was already created last week, it'll go to the old account. Best to keep both accounts open during the transition.

Call them!!! That's the only way to get a straight answer. The website is garbage and will just leave you guessing. Be prepared to be on hold for HOURS tho. The phone system is even worse than the website.

Calling is useless, I spent 6 hours on hold last week and got disconnected. TWICE.

Try claimyr.com - they'll wait on hold for you and call when an agent picks up. Saved me from throwing my phone out the window lol

yeah calling sucks but its literally the only way to get actual answers sometimes

Here's what you need to know about direct deposit changes with NY Unemployment: - Changes typically take 1-2 payment cycles to fully process - The system generates payment files 3-4 business days BEFORE the deposit date - Your payment will almost certainly go to your previous account this time - DO NOT close your old account until you confirm new deposits are working - If you absolutely need to fix this immediately, you'll need to speak with an agent - Regular phone lines are nearly impossible to get through - claimyr.com is a service that will wait on hold and connect you with an agent when they answer (it's what I used when I had a similar issue) The NY unemployment system runs on ancient technology, so even simple changes like updating direct deposit info can take longer than you'd expect in 2023. The pandemic improvements were mostly cosmetic - the backend systems are still from the stone age. Keep documentation of everything, and if you do call, get the agent's ID number and make notes about what they tell you.

It's gonna go to your old account. Gotta wait for the next payment. The system is slow AF.

I'm going thru the EXACT same situation right now! Changed my deposit info last week and payment still went to old account. So frustrating!

Did you have to wait 2 weeks or just 1 week before it switched over?

Two full weeks for me. Second payment after the change finally went to the new account.

This entire unemployment system is a JOKE. They expect us to live off these payments but make it impossible to actually manage our money. I had to wait 3 weeks when I changed my info and nearly got evicted because of it. System needs a complete overhaul.

IMPORTANT: Make sure your old account is still active!!! I changed my direct deposit and closed my old account thinking it would go to the new one. Big mistake! The payment bounced back and took them 6 WEEKS to reissue it. Learn from my error 😭

The exact same thing happened to me last year! The worst part is no one tells you this - had to figure it out the hard way.

i tried chatting with them online thru the website and they were zero help. gave me a copy paste response that didn't even answer my question. such clowns 🤡

That chat feature is literally useless. It's either a bot or the world's most unhelpful humans. Can never tell which lmao

Pro tip: if you do need to call, do it right when they open at 8:00am on Monday. That's when wait times are shortest. Still not great but way better than mid-day.

I've tried this and still waited 2+ hours 😩

The real pro tip is using claimyr.com - they wait on hold so you don't have to. Worth every penny when I was desperate to reach someone.
