NY unemployment payment timing question - does KeyBank deposit on weekends?
I got released from my restaurant job on Wednesday and filed my claim right away. My first certification was processed yesterday (Friday) and I'm trying to figure out when I'll actually see the money. Does KeyBank make deposits on Saturdays? Or do I have to wait until Monday? Really stressed about bills coming up next week. Normally I would certify on Sunday but this time it's different. Anyone know the timeline for deposits when you certify on a Friday?

KeyBank doesn't deposit on weekends. Your payment will 'release' from NY unemployment usually in 1-2 business days after certification but then KeyBank only actually deposits the money Monday-Friday. It sucks but you'll have to wait until Monday.

Had the same issue last month getting stuck in payment limbo. After trying to call for DAYS with no luck, I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me a callback with an actual agent. Literally saved me from getting evicted cause talking to an agent got my $ unlocked so fast. They have this video explaining how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•100% real. I was desperate after being on hold for like 6 hours spread over 3 days. Their system just keeps dialing until it gets through then connects you to a live person. Worked exactly like they said it would.

•wait hold up - does this actually work or is it just the usual BS? I've been trying to reach someone for 2 weeks 🤦♀️

•Yeah it works. They basically just automate the calling and waiting on hold part. When they get a human they connect you. Saved me hours of my life.

•They don't ask for any personal info - they just call and connect you when they get someone. That's all they do. You still talk to the DOL yourself.

Deposits only go through on business days even if it shows as released. I usually see mine hit my account Tuesday mornings after Sunday certification. So certifying Friday probably means Monday payment.

It ALWAYS says 'We are processing your payment' for like 24-48 hours after certification. Then it'll show 'Released' status, but even after that KeyBank doesn't actually deposit on weekends. It's the most annoying system ever 🙄

•fr the whole system is designed to make you wait as long as possible. I swear they do this on purpose.

•That makes sense. Guess I'll just have to wait. So frustrating when bills are due.

Keybank is the WORST. They take forever to process, the website is garbage, and lord help you if you need actual customer service. I hate that NY unemployment forces us to use them. I just transfer the money to my actual bank as soon as it hits.

•Pro tip: you can actually set up direct deposit to your regular bank instead! Go to your unemployment account settings and look for payment method options. Changed mine last year and it's wayyy better.

Hey so I've been dealing with NY unemployment for years (on and off seasonal work). Here's the actual timeline: Day 1: You certify Day 2-3: Status changes to "We are processing your payment" Day 3-4: Status changes to "Released on [date]" Day 4-5: Money ACTUALLY appears in your account But this is all BUSINESS DAYS. So certifying on Friday means: Friday: Certify Monday: Processing Tuesday: Released Wednesday: In your account Sometimes it's faster but this is typical. If you need help reaching someone about your claim, I've used claimyr.com before and it works great for getting through the phone nightmare.

•Thanks for breaking it down like that! This is super helpful. Guess I need to figure something out for the next few days.

•This is accurate 👆 The timeline always takes longer than they claim. And god forbid there's a holiday!

In my experience, even if it says released on friday, the money wont hit ur account till monday or tuesday. The whole system is slow af

Pro tip: if u need emergency cash while waiting, some apps like Dave or Earnin can front you some $$ using your upcoming unemployment deposit as verification. Saved my butt a few times when KeyBank was taking forever.

•Be careful with those advance apps tho. Some of them charge crazy fees or "optional tips" that aren't really optional. Read the fine print!

I switched to direct deposit instead of the KeyBank card and its WAY better. Takes 1 less day to process usually. You can change it in ur account settings.

•I didn't know this was an option! Definitely gonna look into this for future payments. Thanks!

•This is the move! KeyBank is trash. Direct deposit is the way to go.

Former bank employee here. ACH transfers (which is what KeyBank uses for these deposits) only process Monday-Friday. Even if NY unemployment releases the payment on a weekend, the actual transfer won't begin processing until Monday morning. Then it depends on your bank's posting policies - some post pending deposits right away, others wait until the transfer fully clears.

•Thanks for the insider perspective! This makes a lot of sense.

Anyone else notice that the ny unemployment system runs slower on Fridays too? I swear its like they start the weekend early 😒

•FACTS! Trying to do anything on the site Friday afternoon is useless. System probably running on some ancient server that needs a weekend nap too 🤣
