Will NY unemployment use my old debit card from last claim or send a new one?

I filed for ny unemployment again after being laid off from my new job last month. My previous claim ended about 8 months ago. I still have the KeyBank debit card they issued me last time. Will the benefits for this new claim be deposited onto that same card or am I gonna get a completely new one? The last time I needed to wait almost 3 weeks for the card to arrive in the mail and I'm trying to figure out if I should be expecting another wait. I tried calling the unemployment office but can't get thru to anyone. I'm eligible for $536 weekly and already certified for 2 weeks but nothing has shown up on my old card yet. On the website it just shows the payment status as 'pending' for each week.

They use the same card if its not expired! I'm on my third unemployment claim in 2 years and the money still goes to my original KeyBank card. Just make sure its not expired and your address is current in the system. It's actually one of the few things that works smoothly in the whole process lol. You should see deposits soon if you've already certified.

Thats exactly what I needed to know! Thank you so much. I was afraid I'd need to wait on mail delivery times again.

Just double check the expiration date on your card tho! Mine expired right when I started my new claim 😩 and they had to send a new one. Bad timing

After trying to call NY unemployment for DAYS with no luck, I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to an actual agent in under an hour! They fixed my pending payment issue right on the call. Honestly was the best money I've spent to get my benefits flowing again. They have this system that keeps calling and holds your place in line, then connects you when someone answers. Check out this video if you're curious: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

It's super simple! You just go to their site, enter your number, and they start auto-dialing the unemployment office. When they get through to a human agent, you get a call on your phone connecting you directly. Saved me like 6 hours of redial hell.

yeah right, another 'miracle solution'... what's the catch? 🙄

No catch - it's just a service that deals with the hold times so you don't have to. I was skeptical too but when you're desperate to fix your claim it's worth it. My payment went from pending to paid the same day I talked to the agent.

So I was about to throw my phone after 4 hours on hold when my friend told me about Claimyr. Worked for me too! Got my backpay issue fixed on the spot.

They will use your existing card as long as it's not expired. I didn't receive new cards when I filed again. Your payments are probably pending because they're still verifying your new claim - took mine like 10 days to go from pending to paid even though I was eligible.

Check the DOL website under payment methods. You can see if they still have your card info on file or if you need to update anything. But yeah they dont automatically send new cards for new claims unless your old one is expired or you reported it lost.

Thx for the tip, I'll check that section!

KEYBANK CARDS ARE THE ABSOLUTE WORST!!! 🤮 The fees are ridiculous and their customer service is trash. I'd recommend switching to direct deposit asap if u can. Go to payment options on ur account and add ur bank info.

THIS!!! Those ATM fees add up so fast. Direct deposit is way better.

I know everyone hates on the KeyBank cards but I've never had issues with mine 🤷‍♀️ There's free atms at KeyBank locations and I just transfer the money out right away

yeah but keybank locations are hard to find in some areas. plus theyve frozen my card twice for 'suspicious activity' when i was just buying groceries

When I reapplied for benefits last year, my old card still worked fine. According to the NY unemployment website, the cards are valid for 3 years from issue. If you're still in the pending status, that's normal while they review your claim. The first payment always takes longer than subsequent ones. If you're worried and need to speak with someone, here are a few options: 1. Try calling right when they open (7:30am) - less wait time 2. Use the messaging system in your online account 3. Try alternate phone numbers (the 888 number sometimes works better) 4. If you're desperate to get through, claimyr.com is a service that will wait on hold for you and connect you with an agent Once your claim is approved, the payments should automatically go to your existing card if it's still valid. Just make sure your address is current since they mail important documents.

This is SUPER helpful, thank you! I've been calling at like 10am so I'll try the early morning strategy.

The messaging system is a joke tho... I sent 3 messages and never got a response 😡

I've been thru this before. They sometimes reactivate old card accounts and sometimes send new ones. It's completely random and makes no sense like everything else with NY unemployment lol. If you haven't received anything in 2 weeks definitely call them.

OMG I've been struggling with the same thing!!! Filed a new claim after my job closed down and I've been waiting 3 weeks to see if they'll use my old card. No deposits yet. I'm calling and calling but nobody picks up 😭

Same boat. The whole system is a mess. I've started applying to jobs I don't even want just to avoid dealing with unemployment.

Have you tried claimyr.com? It got me through to an agent when I was having payment problems.

Chances are you're stuck in the verification queue. Thats y ur payments are pending. Happened to me too. You need to talk to someone to push it thru. And yes they use the same card.

Anyone notice how every post about NY unemployment involves not being able to reach an actual human being? Like why even have a phone number if nobodys gonna answer? 🤡

Literally spent 6 hours on hold yesterday and got disconnected. The system is designed to make you give up.

from my experience they'll totally use your old card BUT it can take 3-4 business days AFTER the payment switches from pending to paid before it appears on the card. the system is sooooo slow

Call the keybank card services number on the back of ur card. They can tell u if any deposits are pending even before they show up in ur account. Sometimes they can see em comin before u can.

Why is it always so complicated with NY unemployment? Like every other state seems to have this figured out. My sister in Pennsylvania got everything sorted in 3 days. Meanwhile I'm on week 6 of waiting...

NY has like a million more people claiming benefits tho. The system is just overloaded all the time.

PREACH. It's legit a full time job just trying to get your benefits in this state 🤦‍♀️
