When are the next NY unemployment tax refunds being sent out for 2025 filings?

Does anyone have inside info on when the next batch of NY unemployment tax refunds will be processed? I filed in early February and still haven't received anything while my friend who filed later already got hers. Are they processing by filing date, income level, or something else? The NYSDOL website just says 'refunds are being processed in batches' but gives zero details about which batch they're currently working on. Getting a bit worried since I'm counting on that money for some overdue bills.

theyre going by AGI (adjusted gross income) not by when u filed. lower incomes first. my brother got his last week and he made like 42k last yr. im still waiting and i made 58k.

That makes sense! Thanks. Do you know what income range they're processing now? I made about $51k last year.

The NYSDOL is currently processing refunds for taxpayers who filed before March 15, 2025 with adjusted gross incomes between $45,000-$55,000. If you filed in early February, you should receive your refund within the next 2-3 weeks. The batches are processed every 10 business days, and they started with incomes under $40,000, then moved to the next bracket. You can check your refund status on the NYSDOL website using your NY.gov ID and clicking on 'Tax Refund Status' in your dashboard.

This is super helpful, thank you! I just checked the dashboard and it shows my refund is scheduled for processing in the next batch. What a relief!

This isn't exactly right. I made $52K and got my refund two weeks ago, but my neighbor makes $48K and still hasn't received hers. I think they're also looking at whether you had other state unemployment in the mix or just NY. Pure NY claims seem to be processed faster.

I've been trying for THREE DAYS to get through to someone at NY unemployment to ask about this!!! I filed January 29th and STILL no refund while everyone else I know already has theirs! The website doesn't tell you anything useful and the automated phone system just kicks you out after 20 minutes on hold. Has anyone actually managed to speak to a REAL PERSON about their refund status????

I was in the same boat last week, totally frustrated with the phone system. I finally used Claimyr to get through to an agent in about 10 minutes instead of waiting all day. They explained that my refund was flagged for review because I had worked in both NY and NJ last year. Once I talked to a real person, they removed the hold and my refund was processed within 48 hours. You can see how it works at https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE - it basically calls for you and holds your place in line. Saved me so much frustration.

Omg thank you!!!! I'm going to try this right now. I've literally wasted hours on hold this week and keep getting disconnected. I just need to know if there's something wrong with my filing or if I'm just in a later batch.

The refund batches are a JOKE this year!! The whole system is rigged to make us wait as long as possible. I filed in JANUARY and nothing yet. My coworker filed in MARCH and already got his. Makes absolutely NO sense. They're probably holding our money to collect interest on it!!! NYSDOL is the worst agency in the entire state!!! Anyone who says they know the order is either guessing or works for them.

ya its frustrating but my tax guy said they always do batches and theres usually some logic to it, just not always obvious. last year they did it by last 2 digits of ssn.

The NYSDOL has published their batch processing schedule for unemployment tax refunds on their official website under the "Tax Information" section. Here's the current timeline for 2025 filings: - Batch 1 (Completed): AGI under $40K, filed by Feb 15 - Batch 2 (Completed): AGI $40K-$55K, filed by Feb 15 - Batch 3 (In progress): AGI $55K-$70K, filed by March 1 - Batch 4 (Starting May 10): AGI over $70K and all other filings However, there are exceptions that can move your refund to a different batch - such as having multi-state income, amended returns, identity verification holds, or missing documentation. If your refund seems delayed compared to others in your income bracket, one of these exceptions may apply.

Thank you for the detailed breakdown! This explains why my friend got hers earlier - she's in a lower income bracket. I should be in Batch 2 which you're saying is completed, but I still haven't received mine. I'm going to check if there might be a hold on my account.

You're welcome! If you're in Batch 2 and haven't received your refund yet, there could be a processing delay or a minor issue with your filing. Most Batch 2 refunds were issued between April 15-25, but some get delayed for additional review. Check your NY.gov account for any notices or calls for additional information, and if you don't see anything there, it might be worth contacting NYSDOL directly.

Check if you had any existing state debts that would trigger an offset. Common reasons include: unpaid state taxes from previous years, child support arrears, unpaid parking tickets, or state university tuition debts. The NYSDOL is required to deduct these before issuing your refund, and they should have sent a notice explaining the deduction to your NY.gov message center.

UPDATE: My refund just posted to my account this morning! For anyone else waiting, I'm in the $45K-$55K income range and filed in early February. Looks like they're definitely working through Batch 2 right now. Thanks everyone for the help and information!

Lucky you! Still nothing on my end. Did they send you an email notification before it showed up or did it just appear in your account?

No notification at all - it just appeared in my bank account this morning. The only reason I knew to check was because of this thread! You might want to keep an eye on your account if you're in a similar situation.
