What time do you have to file unemployment on sunday - NYS Department of Labor weekly claim deadline?
I'm confused about the exact cutoff time for filing my weekly unemployment claim on Sundays through the NYS Department of Labor system. I know Sunday is the last day but what's the actual deadline? Is it midnight or earlier? I've been filing mine around 11 PM but want to make sure I'm not cutting it too close. Last thing I need is to miss a week and mess up my whole claim.

The NYS Department of Labor weekly claim filing deadline is 11:59 PM on Sunday night. You're actually cutting it pretty close at 11 PM but you should be fine. I always try to file mine by 10 PM just to be safe in case there are any system issues or if the site is running slow.

•Thanks! I had no idea it was that late. I thought it might be like 6 PM or something. Good to know I have until almost midnight.

yeah its midnight but honestly the website gets super slow on sunday nights because everyone waits until the last minute. i learned this the hard way when i almost missed filing because the site kept timing out

•This is exactly why I file on Saturday mornings now. Much faster and less stressful than dealing with the Sunday rush on the my.ny.gov portal.

Wait, I thought you could file starting Monday for the previous week? I've been filing on Mondays this whole time and my claims have been going through fine. Am I doing something wrong with my NYS Department of Labor weekly claims?

•You can file starting Sunday for the week that just ended, but the deadline to file for that week is the following Sunday at 11:59 PM. So you have a full week window. Monday filing is fine as long as you're filing for the correct week.

•Oh ok that makes sense. I was getting worried I was messing something up. Thanks for clarifying!

If you're having trouble getting through to verify your filing deadline or have other questions about your claim timing, I had success using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to actually talk to a NYS Department of Labor representative. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Was way easier than trying to call myself and getting the busy signal.

•Never heard of that but anything's better than calling the regular number and getting hung up on after waiting an hour.

Just to add - make sure you're filing every single week even if you worked or earned money. A lot of people think they skip weeks when they work but you still need to report it to NYS Department of Labor or you can lose your claim entirely.

•Good point! I've been reporting my part-time work hours every week. Better safe than sorry with these claims.

•This is so important! I made the mistake of not filing for two weeks when I picked up some temporary work last month, thinking I didn't need to since I was earning money. Turns out I almost lost my entire claim because of it. The NYS DOL rep told me you have to file every single week regardless of earnings - they'll just adjust your benefit amount based on what you report. Lesson learned the hard way!

Pro tip: if you're worried about missing the deadline, you can also set up a reminder on your phone for Saturday evenings. I do this every week and it's saved me from the Sunday night panic more than once. The system also sends confirmation emails when you submit, so make sure to check for that to know it went through properly.

•That's a great idea! I actually just set up a Saturday reminder after reading this. I've been one of those people scrambling on Sunday nights and stressing about whether it went through. Having that confirmation email tip is really helpful too - I'll make sure to look for that going forward.

Just wanted to share my experience with the filing window - I've found that filing on Thursday or Friday mornings works really well. The system is fast, there's no rush, and it gives me peace of mind knowing it's done early in the week. Plus if there are any issues with my claim, I have time to address them before the Sunday deadline. I used to be a Sunday night filer too but switching to mid-week has been so much less stressful.
