What time to file unemployment claim with NYS Department of Labor - does timing matter?
I'm getting ready to file my first unemployment claim and wondering if there's a specific time of day or day of the week that's better for filing with NYS Department of Labor? I heard from someone that filing early in the morning gets processed faster but I'm not sure if that's true. Also should I wait until Monday or can I file over the weekend? I was laid off yesterday and want to make sure I don't mess this up by filing at the wrong time.

You can file your initial claim 24/7 through the my.ny.gov website, so timing doesn't really matter for processing speed. What's more important is filing as soon as possible after your last day of work since your benefit year starts when you file, not when you were laid off. Don't wait for Monday if you can file now.

•Thanks! I was worried about missing some deadline. Should I have all my employment info ready before I start or can I save and come back to it later?

The NYS Department of Labor system processes applications throughout the week. However, if you need to call them for help, their phone lines are typically less busy early in the morning (8-9 AM) or later in the afternoon. For just filing online though, any time works. Make sure you have your Social Security card, driver's license, and employment history for the past 18 months ready.

•Speaking of calling them - I've been trying to reach NYS Department of Labor for weeks about my adjudication and can never get through. It's so frustrating! Has anyone found a way to actually talk to a real person there?

•I had the same problem until someone told me about Claimyr.com - it's a service that calls NYS Department of Labor for you and gets you connected to an agent. They have a demo video at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Saved me hours of trying to get through myself.

Just file it as soon as you can! I waited three days thinking I needed to gather more paperwork and those three days don't count toward my benefits. Every day you wait is money you're losing.

THE SYSTEM IS SO BROKEN WHY DOES IT EVEN MATTER WHEN YOU FILE?? I filed mine perfectly on time and it's been in adjudication for 6 weeks with no explanation. NYS Department of Labor doesn't care about any of us!

I filed mine on a Sunday evening and had no issues. Like others said, the online system is available 24/7. Just make sure you're using the official my.ny.gov site and not some scam website.
