What time to certify for unemployment online with NYS Department of Labor?
I'm new to filing weekly claims and want to make sure I don't mess anything up. What's the best time to certify for unemployment online through the NYS Department of Labor system? I heard there might be system maintenance or heavy traffic at certain times. Should I file early in the morning or does it not matter? My certification week just opened up and I want to get it done right.

The NYS Department of Labor system is available 24/7 for weekly certifications, but I'd avoid Sunday nights and Monday mornings when traffic is heaviest. I usually file mine on Tuesday or Wednesday afternoons and never have issues. Just make sure you're within your certification window.

•Thanks! What exactly is the certification window? How long do I have to file once it opens?

You have a full week to certify once your window opens, but don't wait until the last minute. The system does scheduled maintenance usually late Sunday nights into early Monday morning. I've found mid-week during business hours is most reliable. Also make sure you have your work search activities documented before you start the certification process.

•Wait, I thought we didn't need to do work searches anymore? I haven't been keeping track of anything...

•Work search requirements came back! You need three work search activities per week. Check the NYS Department of Labor website for details about what counts.

I tried calling NYS Department of Labor about certification issues last month and couldn't get through for days. If you run into any problems with the online system, I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that actually gets you connected to a live agent. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Saved me hours of calling and getting busy signals.

•How much does something like that cost? Seems too good to be true.

•It's not free but worth it when you're stuck. Way better than spending all day redialing the same number.

Just file it whenever you remember, honestly. I've done mine at all hours and never had an issue. The important thing is just getting it done within the week.
