New York Unemployment: When exactly can I claim benefits? Tonight at midnight or tomorrow?
This is my first time filing for unemployment benefits in New York. Really confused about when to submit my weekly claim. Do I do it now or wait until midnight? Don't want to mess this up and have my payment delayed.

You can claim starting Sunday at 12:01 AM till Saturday 12 midnight. Most people do it Sunday morning to get paid faster. I usually do mine around 7:30 AM on Sunday and get paid Tuesday.

Pro tip: The website gets mad busy Sunday morning and sometimes crashes. I wait till Sunday afternoon its way easier to get in and claim

First time can be nerve-wracking but you got this! Just to add - if you're doing it Sunday morning and the site is slow, don't panic and submit multiple times. That can create duplicate claims and cause issues. Wait for the confirmation page before closing your browser. Also keep screenshots of your confirmation just in case!

Just went through this same confusion last month! The NY DOL website actually has a countdown timer that shows when weekly certification opens - it's at the top of the page once you log in. Really helps take the guesswork out of it. Also, don't stress too much about the exact timing - I've claimed anywhere from Sunday morning to Wednesday and still got paid on the same Tuesday. The system is pretty forgiving as long as you get it done within the week!

One thing that really helped me was bookmarking the NY DOL login page and checking it Saturday night around 11:45 PM - you'll see the system update right at midnight and the "Weekly Certification" button becomes active. Also heads up - if you're planning to do it Sunday morning, have your coffee ready because the questions take about 10-15 minutes to complete properly.
