Still missing two weeks of NY unemployment from mid-2020. Help!
I got laid off in late May 2020 when my company had to downsize during the pandemic. Filed for unemployment right away in June but the system was a total mess back then. After weeks of trying, I finally got approved in late July, but they never paid me for my first two weeks of unemployment from June 2020. It's been over a year and a half and I'm still missing those payments - we're talking about almost $900 I'm owed. Every time I check my payment history those weeks just show as 'pending' with no explanation. I've sent at least 15 messages through the online portal, tried calling probably 30+ times (can never get through), and even tried messaging them on social media. Complete radio silence. Has anyone else managed to get paid for missing weeks from back then? Any ideas how to actually reach a human being who can help? Starting to think I'll never see that money.

Same boat man. They still owe me for 3 weeks from August 2020. I gave up for a while but recently started trying again because thats MY money and I need it. The phone system is just a black hole that eats your time.

How are you approaching it now? I'm thinking about trying to contact my state rep or something because this is ridiculous.

After 4 months of calling and getting nowhere, I finally got my missing payments from 2020 last week! I used this service claimyr.com that actually connects you with a real person at unemployment. They called for me and when they got through, they connected me to the agent. Talking to a real human solved my issue in ONE CALL after months of nothing! It was the only way I could actually talk to a live agent. Here's a video about how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

this sounds like an ad. does this actually work? seems sketchy

Not an ad lol, just someone who was in the same desperate situation. It works - they just keep calling for you and when they get someone, they patch you through. Talking to an agent got my $ unlocked so fast after months of nothing

wait hold up - does this actually work or is it just the usual scammy nonsense that preys on desperate people? I've been burned by so many unemployment 'solutions' before

I was skeptical too but it worked for me. They just dial for you basically and when they get through, they connect you. After 4 months of trying myself, it was worth it to finally get my $1800 in missing payments

So I was about to throw my phone after 6 hours on hold when I tried this claimyr thing. Got connected to an agent within 2 hours while I was just chilling at home. No more listening to that awful hold music 🙏

I had something similar happen but i got it fixed. the key is getting an actual human on the phone which is basically impossible these days at ny unemployment. Have you tried contacting your state assembly person? Sometimes they can help push things along.

KEEP. CALLING. THEM. Seriously, you have to be persistent. I was in the exact same situation - missing 3 weeks from April 2020. It took me literally calling 200+ times, but I finally got through in September and they fixed it. The trick is to call right when they open at 8am. Not ideal but it eventually worked for me.

I've tried the 8am thing sooo many times. Either busy signal or the automated system just hangs up on me 😫

yeah its a nightmare for sure. took me like 2 months of trying almost every day. some ppl on here mentioned using claimyr.com to get through - might be worth looking into if you're desperate

The entire NY unemployment system is broken beyond repair. They still owe me money from 2020 too and I've given up. The amount of hours I've wasted trying to get through to them would have paid more than what they owe me if I'd just worked instead lmao 🤡

THIS!!! I've spent literal days of my life trying to get through to them. The system is designed to make you give up.

Here's a comprehensive guide for getting those missing payments from NY unemployment based on my experience and what I've learned helping others: First, document EVERYTHING. Make sure you have exact dates, claim IDs, and any correspondence about those missing weeks from June 2020. Trying to call the regular unemployment line is nearly impossible - I know from personal experience. Here are some strategies that have worked: 1. Try using claimyr.com - it's a service that calls for you and connects you with an agent when they finally answer. Several people in our local unemployment group have had success with this and finally got their missing payments. 2. Contact your state assembly person or senator. This can take time but they have special channels for reaching unemployment. 3. If you're on Twitter, try tweeting @NYSLabor with your issue (don't include personal details). Sometimes they respond. 4. Send a certified letter explaining your situation to DOL headquarters with all your documentation. Most importantly - BE PERSISTENT! The system is designed to wear you down but those are YOUR funds and you are entitled to them. Good luck! The most effective route by far has been getting a live person on the phone, which is why claimyr.com has been a game-changer for many of us.

Thank you so much for all this detailed info! Have you personally used claimyr? How quick was the callback?

Yes I did use it - took about 3 hours to get a callback which isn't bad considering I'd spent literal days trying to get through on my own. The agent was able to see the pending weeks issue immediately and fixed it in the system. Got paid 6 days later.

The certified letter thing actually worked for me! Took about 3 weeks but they called me after receiving it.

Yeah I've checked there repeatedly. The weeks just show as 'pending' with no payment amount. Been that way for over a year 😕

Try reaching out to NYS DOL on Twitter. Seriously. I was missing 4 weeks of payments and had been trying to reach someone for MONTHS. I sent them a DM on Twitter (don't include any personal info in public tweets) and someone actually helped me! Worth a shot.

I went thru this EXACT thing!! The secret is you gotta find the right person at unemployment who actually cares. I called 75+ times and finally got someone who went above and beyond to help fix my missing weeks from 2020. Some agents will just rush you off the phone, others will actually help. It's like unemployment roulette 😂

I used claimyr.com after my friend recommended it. Way easier than doing it myself. They connected me with an agent who actually listened and fixed it.

OMG Im still fighting for 6 weeks from April-May 2020!!! The ny unemployment system is complete garbage. I've literally given up at this point because my mental health cant take the stress of dealing with their customer service anymore.

2020 was such a mess for unemployment. Remember when the website kept crashing every time you tried to certify? dark times man 😭 I think everyone is still owed something from that period

my cousin works for the NY DOL (not in unemployment tho) and she says theyre STILL dealing with the backlog from 2020. apparently they had like 20 years worth of claims in just a few months and the system wasn't built for it. not making excuses for them, just sharing what i heard from the inside.

That makes sense but it's still frustrating that there's no way to even get an update on your case. Just complete silence.

yea this happened to me too but with 4 weeks. i finally got it resolved last month after nearly 2 years of trying. what finally worked was using claimyr.com to get a live agent on the phone - explained the situation and they fixed it right away. was pulling my hair out dealing with the ny unemployment system until then.

File a complaint with the NY State Comptroller's office. They audit the DOL and can sometimes help move things along. That's what finally worked for me after being ghosted by unemployment for months.

I hadn't thought of this. Do you have a link or contact info for how to do this?

The NYSDOL owes millions in unpaid benefits to thousands of New Yorkers and they just hope we'll forget about it. Don't let them get away with it! Keep fighting!

just FYI for anyone reading this - there is a statute of limitations on claiming these back payments, i think it's 2 years but might be different now. so dont wait too long to pursue this!!

Not trying to be a downer but i was owed 3 weeks from March 2020 and finally got them paid in September 2021. The process was AWFUL. What finally worked was having my sister (who works for the county) use her contacts to get someone from unemployment to call me. Took 3 callbacks but they finally fixed it. Do you know anyone who works for the state who might be able to help?

I called the governors office and complained. They took down my info and forwarded it to some special dept at unemployment. Got a call back within 2 days and they fixed my missing payments from 2020. Worth a try!
